Chapter 27
Kane’s POV
I start up my cat, as Seth and Anthony climb in with me, I waste no time before pulling off towards the gates seeing the open instantly to allow me to exit.
“What you going to do with him Kane?” Anthony questions, as I turn down on to the dirt road at the bottom of the hill – a road in which leads me straight to the prison block and pits for my pack.
“I’m going to give him a taste of his own medicine… I chuckle, as the pair of them join in on my humour.
After a short ten minute drive, the large steel gates come into view and the pathway lines with guards flagging down our car for inspection before entry.

It was the best guarded facility across the country in terms of nobody gets in or out without my written permission.
I slow my vehicle, rolling down the tinted windows to allow them to catch a glimpse at my face. “THE ALPHA – LET HIM THROUGH!” One of the men holler to the next as they signal to open the
barb covered gates for us as I offer him a curt nod and progress forward. The men step aside, and as
soon as our vehicle is past the threshold – the gates are shut behind us again – trapping us in.
We then wait for the second set of gates to crawl open – before we fully enter what I like to call the
‘pit zone‘.
I stop the car completely, switching off the engine before we climb out together – eyeing the small
field and its many caged holes.
“Number?” I turn to question, as Anthony leads the way.
“Seven.” He responds; as we head towards the desired lot.
One of the nearby guard approaches us, as we stop on the edge of the whole and gesture for him to lift it up. With that, a button is pressed, followed by the rattle of a metal chain as the silver cage is hoisted up from the pit of the hole.

Short moments pass before Leo is brought in to our view – face filled with fury and resentment as

soon as his eyes land on mine.

“Rough night Leo?” I laugh out loudly, as Seth and Anthony both snigger from beside me as he cringes under the bright sunlight.
“This is uncalled for and you know it!” He protests, as I shrug and tilt my head to observe him as though he were nothing more than a caged animal.
“Uncalled for? You disrespected all of my belongings… or do you not remember since you were fucking wasted?” I state, as he grunts in response.
“I shouldn’t have demanded to be let on to your property – I know that now – that was the alcohol
to force out the words as a half assed apology.

I wave my hand to the guard who presses the next button in which tips the cage forward- forcing him to flop out on to the grass as he lands with a heavy thud and a curse.
“You disrespected my property, disrespected my title and disrespected my human!” I sneer, as he stares up at me from his position on the grass.
“Your human? Be lucky that you even still have one! Mines ran off and that’s what I was trying to report to you in the first place!” He fumes, as I suddenly understand that with a man like Leo, progress was less likely to be made.
This man would always be this way – stubborn, greedy and abusive.
“You turned up and accused my human of causing yours to take off just because you knew they were
friends! Did you ever stop to think Leo, that maybe.. just maybe… she ran off to get away from you
because you’re unbearable to live with?!” I mock, as he growls in response.
Typical… growl at the Alpha and get yourself killed why don’t you? Same shit, different day of the
week!
“Whores! The lot of them! You know that, you all do! Those humans are only still alive today to SERVE US!” He argues, even looking to the guard for support on his statement which he of course
doesn’t find.
“You’re a fucking pig.” I roll my eyes and check my watch, growing bored of his hysterics.

“Seth, I’m happy for you to deal with him if you fancy it?” I turn to my friend, knowing that this situation currently felt a lot more personal to him since he had actually been the one to remove Erin from his clutches.
“Deal with me? I haven’t broken any fucking rules!” Of course he argues on, attempting to stand to his feet only for the guard to swiftly force him back on to the ground a skill they had all been specially trained in.

“I’ve only recently began to notice Leo, that you’re actually becoming a bit of a weight for me and my pack… like a disease that’s spreading itself from the inside out… and just like a cancer, I’m afraid we will need to cut you out.” I shrug, watching him shake his head from side to side in disbelief.
I was still stuck on whether to actually have him killed or not. Perhaps I could leave him to rot for a couple of years in my cells and see if he has any hope of being reformed? Not much of the prisoners here do… so the chances of that working out were already slim.
“That whore of yours has you under her thumb – right where she wants you! She is the disease in this pack, not me!” Leo roars, as I instantly slam my foot across his face – drawing blood from the force of the kick as he groans in pain.
“Get him to the cell!” I demand, as the guard whistles two others over before the cuff him and drag
him off in the direction of the main prison building.
“What a fucking waste! He was a good warrior for this pack once upon a time and now look! He went right down hill after his last mate died!” Anthony complains about Leo, as I nod once in agreement.
“We all lost our woman from the great plague… but we can’t blame the humans for that! That’s the difference, Leo can’t learn to give them a chance because he blames them for what happened. It was idiotic for him to even want a partner – he should have just kept to himself and this wouldn’t have happened!” I add, as we make our way back to the car to drive across to the next part of the grounds.

We all lost our loved ones to the plague which seemed to attack the genetics of our female wolves… and amongst those casualties included my own mate… but I grieved for a few years and moved on.

She wouldn’t want me to suffer alone… as males we must do what’s right and must start over again. The humans are part of that agreement – helping us to repopulate and rebuild for a better life for all.

Those that remain bitter and stuck on the past will be left behind whilst the rest of us progress forward – it’s the only way of survival!
“You look pissed!” Seth chuckles, as I snap out of my thoughts and drive towards the cell block.
“I am! He keeps outright disrespecting Tessa and thinks I won’t do shit about it!” I snap out, as Seth and Anthony share knowing glances.
“Sounds like love to me if I’ve ever heard of it…” Seth mocks on, as I scoff at his comment.
“Really Seth? Because love to me actually looks more like breaking around fifty rules to kidnap somebody else’s human from them to then lock them in a basement until things blow over and their male winds up in the pit for disrespecting the Alpha himself!” I shoot back, earning a cackle from Anthony in the back seat.
“He’s got you there bro!” Anthony continues to laugh, as Seth shakes his head in disbelief whilst I park up the car once again.
“Dumb ass!” Is all he can respond, which only causes myself and Anthony to laugh more.
“All I’m saying is… you’re damn lucky that I like you Seth and that you’re the Beta because this
wouldn’t have worked out well for any old pack member now would it?” I shut off the engine,
turning to scold him as he turns his face away from me to stare out of the window.
He’s such a child sometimes that we can’t help but poke fun at him…
“Erin’s better off for it now though and you both know it!” He defends, as I throw a knowing look back over my shoulder at Anthony who too can see right through Seth and his growing crush.
Seth, like Anthony, never actually had the chance to meet their mate before the virus swept through our towns years ago… probably for the best.
“Let’s just get in there and deal with that ass so we can get home!” Seth huffs out, as I laugh once
more.
“Get home to your girl you mean!” Anthony adds as we all exit the car, causing a last snigger to erupt between us both as Seth shoves him playfully.
I hate to say it but he’s right… like just get this wrapped up so that we can get back to tie up any
