1 press my forehead to the cool metal of the compartment, my mind racing through the worst possible scenarios.
If we get the chance to run, then we need to be ready. We need to know exactly when to make our move, I bite my lip, trying to calm my racing heart. I would never forgive myself if we didn’t both make it out of this – together!
After what feels like an eternity of driving, the truck gradually slows, the engines growl dropping down to a low hum as the tyres roll over what sounds like cruntry gravel.
the brakes engage, the vehicle rolling at a snails pace now.
My heart tate was shooting up in to my throat…
Let’s just stay quiet, 1 hiss to Erin, squeezing her hand in the dark.

Clep, this is !!
He’s going to kill us out here… where ‘here‘ is… or worse? Maybe he’s going to have his way with me like he had demanded back at the prison.
Feeling my throat close up at the thought, the haits on my arms stand alert as we both hear the car door open, followed by the rustle of boots against stenes, followed by muffled thick murmuring?
He’s not alone…
There’s more of them…
What is this?! Has he sickly invited more of them to join him?!
‘L–Let’s just try t–to stay calm, stay still,” I mutter to Erin again, though the words barely comfort neither of us in my trembling state.
We were both absolutely terrified!
The seconds seem to slug on, stretching into what feels like minutes as we hear muffled conversation from outside as we await our fate.
There was no telling how long we had been in here now, as I wanted to burst out of this compartment and run, but we can’t. Even if we had wanted to, It wouldn’t budge from the inside even if we tried.
I close my eyes for a brief moment, steadying myself as we hear another door opening – closer to us this time.
We’ve come this far…
We’ve survived through some of the worst already…
I can’t let fear take over now, not when an escape might present itself!
A clang echoes, before the clip is heard, and the lid is lifted – pouring more oxygen into the claustrophobic space.
Bright torches meet our eyes, as we both shrink back and shield ourselves as best we can from the invading lights.
‘Eto tochno te devushki, kotorykh prosil Al’fa?” (These are definitely the right girls who the Alpha wanted?)
More Russian language floods to our ears that we couldn’t begin to decipher, as more unfamiliar faces poke their heads in to observe us like lab rats, before hands come reaching towards us next – pulling at us to get out.
The hands yank us roughly from the compartment, dragging our trembling bodies into the icy night air as we thrash against their holds.
My legs buckle from the cramped space we’d been trapped in the second they meet the ground, but I manage to steady myself, glancing frantically at Erin. Her wide eyes mirror my own panic.
The truck’s headlights cast long shadows across the gravel–covered ground, illuminating a handful of imposing figures. Each man is broad–shouldered and dressed in thick winter coats, their faces partially obscured by scarves or hats. One of them barks another command in Russian, and the others close in, herding us around like cattle.

He nods, his eyes narwing slightly as he gestures to the other men. Come Alghe Kion is waiting
Alpha Tion?!
Another Alpha? Oh sweet lard,, what did we do to deserve this?! Being brought here to yet another dangerous Fussian Alpha!
The word hits me like a bolt of lightning. My knees threaten to give out as my mind races.
The men form a loose circle around us, guiding us forward again. Erin dings to me as we stumble along the gravel path, sivering fun the calf despite the extra layers we’d managed to grab that provided next to no extra heat.
As we re escorted further, the landscape shifts. What first seemed like a barzen wasteland gives way to a cluster of wooden buldings, their windows giving faintly with warm light.
It was a village. Small but structured, it looks nothing like the sterile, oppressive compound we’d been imprisoned in, almost mare homely?

Their expressions are curious but cautious, and I can feel their eyes burning into my back as were led toward the largest structure at the heart of the
village.
It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before: a miniature castle like building with towering stone walls and iron accents that gleam under the meenlight. It’s both beautiful and intimidating, its vintage charm softened only slightly by the warm light spilling from its arched windows.
The silver–haired man strides ahead of us, pushing open the heavy doors with ease. Warm air rushes out, carrying with it the scent of busting wood and something sweet- like honey and spices.
Inside,” he commands, holding the door open and gestaring for us to enter which we greadily do–needing to feel warnth again.
Erin hesitates, her grip on my arm tightening but I push as both forward.
I don’t blame her.
Everything about this feats like walking into a trap. But the cold bites at my skin, and I know we have no other choice. I nod at her, and together we step
further into the unknown.

The interior is just as grand as the exterior, with high ceilings, stone walls, and tick tapestries that add a sense of warmth. A massive fireplace roars at the lar end of the room, its flames casting lickering shadows across the polished wooden floors.
Wait here, the man says, his voice fitm but not unkind. “This place is surrounded by guards so running won’t work!” Ite snaps, before he turns to one of the others and barks something out in Russian.
The man nods and disappears down a side hallway.
I barely have time to take in our surroundings before the silver–haired man turns back to us.
You are safe,” he states, his English more deliberate this time. “Alpha Kion will explain. Sit.”
Erin and I exchange uncertain glances but obey, sinking into a plush sofa near the fireplace as my skin tingles at the radiating heat..
The warmth seeps into my frozen limbs, but the tension in my chest doesn’t ease
“Who are you?” I ask, my voice shaky but desperate for answers. “Why are we here?”
But he only ignores me, as heavy footsteps echo from a nearby hallway. A man enters the room screamed he was the ‘Alpha‘ in question.

He’s dressed in a simple but elegant shirt and trousers, his eyes sharp and calculating as they sweep over us.
‘You must be Tessa and Erin?” he says in perfect English, his tone clipped but not unfriendly.
I freeze, my heart skipping a beat. How does he know our names? What was going on?!
‘I am Alpha Kion,” he continues, his gaze settling on me. “I best go get Kane.”
My breath catches as my eyes almost roll out of
Kane?!
my head.
For a moment, I wonder if I’m dreaming. Hearing his name in this strange place feels surreal, almost impossible.
Alpha Kion turns to one of the men by the door and begins rambling in Russian as the guard quickly nods and leaves the room.
As the man rushes off, I sit there, stunned and unsure what to think or feel. The warmth of the room, the mention of Kane
Erin leans in close, her voice trembling. “Tess… what does this mean?”
But I don’t know what to say.
It felt wrong to hope that Kane himself would actually be here…
We just have to wait and see.
