My Human
Chapter 65
The pouring in my find was real. It wasn’t part of some hazy nightmare, nor was the rough grip shaking my shoulder. A voice broke through the fog in my mind, sharp and insistent.
Vane! Kane, ake the fuck upt
1 groaned, my body sluggish and unwilling to move as I thrashed my arms around in an attempt to hit whoever was pulling me around like this.
Yacking hell, will you just wake up! They complain harshly, as my brows furrow in frustration, my body still fighting for more rest.
The bed beneath me felt too soft, too warm. For the first time in days, I had actually managed to fall into something resembling sleep, though the edges of exhaustion still clung to me like a heavy weight.
“Damn it, Kane, wake up! The girls are here!” I process the next words, my mind fumbling slightly to connect the dots before suddenly-
The words cut through me like a bolt of lightning!
My eyes snapped open, my heart slamming into my ribs as I sat up too fast, the blood rushing to my head as I almost knock Seth over in the process.
“What did you say? My voice was hoarse, cracking from disuse.
I blinked around at Seth, who stood over me, disheveled and wide–eyed.
“A guard just came for me. He said they brought them back. Tessa and Erin. They’re both alive and safe! Kion has them downstairs right now – GET UP! Seth forces again, as I blink through the tired haze.
I stared at him, the words taking a moment to sink in, but when they did, I threw the blankets off, my feet hitting the cold floor with a loud thud.
‘Where? What room?!” I demanded, already searching for something to wear.
My muscles protested as I moved around so urgently, stiff from days of tension and restless pacing, but I didn’t care.
‘Downstairs somewhere, just hurry the hell up!” Seth said quickly, stepping back to let me move around him as I nodded,
I yanked on the first pair of sweatpants I could find, not bothering to check if they were clean, and tugged a hoodie over my head to cover my bare chest.
1
My fingers fumbled with the hem as I tried to get it on, my mind racing.
They were here.
After all the days and nights of searching, of wondering if I’d ever see her again
she was here.
But what condition would I find her in? That was what worried me most… what had she already been through?
The thought made my stomach churn as I shoved my feet into a pair of sneakers and stumbled toward the door. Seth followed close behind me, heavy and hurried.

They didn’t say much else, he muttered, his voice tense. Just that they’re here and safe… I think? The English wasn’t great.”
The word felt fragile, almost laughable.
Nothing about this had been safe for Tessa. For Erin. For any of us.
The halls of Alpha Kion’s estate blurred as we met the guard down the hall and lowed him through the building.
My pulse thundered in my ears, the anxiety clawing at my chest with every step.
When we reached the room, I froze just outside the door.
There they were.
Tessa and Erin sat on the sofa, huddled together in the center of the room, their figures small and fragile under the flickering firelight.
Their clothes were wrinkled and dirty, their faces pale, with only socks covering their blackened feet.
But it was the bruises that hit me like a punch to the gut…
Tessa’s face was swollen on both sides, a horrifying deep purple mark blooming across her under eyes. Her lower lip was split, and I could see the faintest tremble in her fingers as she hadn’t noticed us by the door yet.
Erin looked drained, though her injuries weren’t quite as prominent – you could tell she had still faced many demands through her time here.
Alpha Kion stood near the fireplace, his broad frame looming as he spoke in a low voice. I couldn’t hear what he was saying, but it didn’t matter. The only thing I could focus on was her as I wasted no more time and pushed my way in to the room.
Tessa turned slightly, and her eyes met mine for the first time.
For a moment, the world seemed to stop. Her jaw dropped, her lips parting in disbelief as her wide eyes filled with unshed tears.
“K–Kane?”
Her voice broke, cracking under the weight of her emotions. It was barely above a whisper, but it hit me harder than any scream ever could.
I moved before I could think, striding into the room with Seth on my heels. Tessa stumbled to her feet, her hands quivering as if she couldn’t trust her own
eyes.
And then she broke down completely – they both did.
A choked sob escaped Tessa’s lips as she covered her face with her hands, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably. Erin clung to her, tears streaming down her face as well, but my focus was on Tessa.
Only Tessa.
I needed her in my arms.
Never to leave my sight again!
I was in front of her in an instant, my hands hovering awkwardly as I fought the urge to pull her into me. She was so small, so fragile that I didn’t want t

My hands finally found her shoulders, gentle but firm, and I felt the tension in her body melt as the leaned into me. Her sobs grew kader, and I wrapped my arms around her too, holding her as tightly as I dared listening to her sniffbg sobs.
Ive got you, I repeated in a whisper, my voice breaking. ‘You’re safe.”
But even as I said the words, my blood boiled beneath the surface with rage,
Who was responsible for marking her face like this?! From close up, her nose seethed broken, which meant somebody had hit her pretty bad….
I pulled back just enough to look at her again, my hand brushing her damp hair away from her face. “Who did this to you? I demanded, my tone hardening as I referred to her wounds.
She flinched at the question, her eyes darting toward Alpha Kion with uncertainty as she refused to speak.
The shift was subtle, but I caught it. My gaze snapped to the man in question, who stood silently, his expression unreadable.
Alpha Kane – control yourself! How could it have been me if I’ve been here with you!” Alpha Kion snaps agitatedly, not liking my accusing eyes.
Turning back to Tessa I demanded more; “Who the fuck did this?!” I push on, watching her mouth open and close again.
Kion raised a hand, his expression calm despite the fury radiating from me. “Careful, Kane,” he said, his tone even. “You don’t want to direct your anger at the wrong person – I’ve fucking tried to help you.”
But before I could respond, Tessa’s soft whisper meets my ear, “N–No… Not him! She says, confusing me as I turn to stare back at her.
Maybe she had just looked at him the way she did from caution? Not wanting to tell me about it with another imposing Alpha being here? Maybe I had jumped the gun too fast…
“Then who? Someone back at that place?” I test, expecting that to be the answer, but before another word can be said, Alpha Kion speaks out;
“Ah! Here he is, the man of the hour! I told you he was trustworthy of doing his job!” I crank my head around to find Alpha Kion reintroducing his spy as he steps in to the room, but something wasn’t right…
Tessa tensed in my hold, shifting herself quickly to block her own view of the man, burying her face in to my arm.
Why was she reacting like this? Fear that he would drag her back there maybe? Perhaps they hadn’t known he was undercover?
‘It’s alright Tessa, he’s working with us, he got you out of there!” I tell her, as she all but shakes her head violently.
“H–He d–did this to m–me! She whimpers, and with that, I see fucking red.
My vision blurred with fury as her words settled in my mind. The air seemed to grow heavy, charged with the weight of my rage,

Het confession hit me harder than I could have anticipated. The room seemed to it as the truth sank in, and all I could see was the smug face of the man
who’d just entered the room.
Alpha Kion’s so–called spy.
The man froze in the doorway, his confident smirk faltering when my gaze locked onto him. He must’ve sensed the shift in the room–the predatory energy radisting off me as I gently untangled myself from Tessa and stood to my full height.
“You. I growled, my fists clenching at my sides. “You hit her?”
The man took a hesitant step back, but Kion’s booming voice interrupted. “Hold on, Kane. Let’s talk about this rationally-
“Rationally?” I snapped, cutting him off as I turned to face him briefly. “You want me to stay rational after hearing that he hurt her? MY HUMAN?!”
Tessa whimpered behind me, her hands fisting the fabric of my hoodie as if begging me not to leave her side.
‘following…orders!” the spy blurted out in broken English, his hands raising defensively. “I had to-
“Look real?” I roared, my voice echoing through the room as I closed the distance between us. “You broke her fucking nose, you bastard!“I pointed back to Tessa, who shuffled and sobbed.
His mouth opened, but whatever excuse he had prepared didn’t matter. My fist connected with his jaw before he could get a word out. The satisfying crack of bone reverberated through the air as he staggered backward, clutching his face.
“Kane!” Kion shouted, stepping forward to intervene, but Seth quickly grabbed his arm, holding him back.
‘Don’t, Seth warned, his voice calm but firm. ‘Let him handle this.”
The spy tried to regain his footing, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth -I didn’t mean! It was part of cover-”
“Cover or not,” I snarled, grabbing him by the collar and slamming him against the nearest wall, “I SHOULD SNAP YOUR NECK FOR THIS!”
His eyes widened in terror, and he pleaded in Russian frantically, but it wasn’t enough. The sight of Tessa’s bruised face, her trembling frame, and the fear in her eyes burned in my mind, fueling my rage.
I used my head this time, slamming it forward and against his nose, ensuring that it broke in ten folds compared to what he had done to my Tessa.
Alpha Kane! I need him alive!” Kion defends, reminding me of his worth as a spy, but I send him a sharp look of warning.
Blood trickled down the man’s face, as he coughed and fumbled to stay on his feet.
“Kane,” Seth said quietly, his hand suddenly finding my shoulder as he steps forward. “Alpha Kion has a point. As much as he’s a fucking low life pig, we might need him. Let him go. You can kill him another time.”
I hesitated, the blood pounding in my ears. Every instinct screamed at me to finish this back from the edge.

Kion nodded at his men, who immediately grabbed the spy and dragged him out the room, his pleas for mercy falling on deaf ears.
When I turned back to Tessa, her wide eyes met mine, glistening with fresh tears knelt before her, my hands gently cupping her face despite the fire still
burning inside me.
“I’m so sorry this happened to you, I whispered, my voice breaking. “I should’ve been there, I shouldn’t have been ignoring you back home, it’s my fault.”
She shook her head, her trembling fingers reaching up to touch mine. “Y–You’re here now,” she murmured. “That’s all that matters.”
Her words eased some of the tension in my chest, but the guilt still lingered. I pulled her into my arms once more, vowing silently that no one would ever
hurt her again.
Not while I was breathing.
