Chapter 70
Kane’s POV

The air in Kion’s office seemed to grow colder, the weight of our conversation settling over us like a heavy shroud, I could feel the tension radiating from Tessa as she sat beside me, her hand still clasped in mine. The lines of worry etched into her face hadn’t eased since we walked into the room, but she held herself together, her quiet strength keeping her upright.
Kion leaned back in his chair, his eyes dark and calculating as he surveyed us. He was already several steps ahead, his mind working through the intricacies of the plan before any of us could even begin to grasp it.
“We won’t be able to do this alone,” Kion said finally, his voice low and steady. Dimitri’s operation is vast, and he’s fortified his stronghold with enough enforcers to rival most packs. But I’ve reached out to some of my most trusted alles. They’ll be joining us in this fight.”
The room fell silent as the implications of his words sank in. Kion’s pack was already formidable, but if he was calling in outside help, it meant this mission would be even more dangerous than I’d anticipated.
A knock at the door broke the silence. Kion straightened in his chair, his expression hardening. “Come in,” he called.
The door opened, and three men stepped into the room. Their presence was immediate, the kind that drew every eye without effort. They were taller than most wolves, their builds lean but powerful, and their movements precise, like predators who knew exactly how to strike.
Kion stood and gestured toward the group. “This is Viktor, Sergei, and Kirill. Theyre members of my allied Russian pack. Each of them has extensive experience in dismantling enemy operations, and they’ve agreed to help us take down Dimitri.”
Before anyone could utter another word, the door creaked open once again, as another two men stepped inside to join us – one in which being the spy who
had brought Tessa and Erin back to us and who had also caused Tessa’s wounds.. 2
His own face was somewhat swollen now, as I sat in my chair smirking at the sight of him – a clear picture of only a quarter of the revenge he truly deserved
to endure.
I didn’t miss the way Tessa immediately tensed beside me the moment he entered though. Her hand gripped mine tighter, and her body seemed to shrink, as though trying to make herself smaller which only pissed me off more.
I shifted in my seat, my hand instinctively resting on Tessa’s knee in a silent reassurance that I wouldn’t let him touch her again.
She didn’t look at me, her attention locked on him instead…
Kion continued on as normal, oblivious to the fact that I still wanted the man dead, or perhaps choosing to ignore it. Either way, my patience was wearing thin. The only thing keeping me in my seat was the steady pressure of Tessa’s hand in mine and the knowledge that killing him here would derail everything
that we needed him for in order to move forward.
“This is Purcell, Kion said, gesturing toward the spy who had caused Tessa so much harm who we had already met last night. “As you know, he has been a
critical asset in gathering intel on Dimitri’s operations. His knowledge of the compound and its defenses will be invaluable. I know you want nothing more
than to kill him, but unfortunately, we need him right now.”
1 fought the urge to snarl. Critical asset? Give me a break.
The man was a snake, and the only thing 1 trusted less than his face was the way he kept his head bowed, as if feigning humility. He was avoiding looking at
and I could tell he felt my glare burning into him. He wasn’t acting like a scared little bitch back when it came to breaking my humans nose
me,
Tessa’s grip tightened again, he knuckles white. I shifted my focus to her, my thumb brushing over the back of her band in a silent reminder!

I’ve got you.

Purcell, the one who had finally been named, lifted his head, his gaze sweeping the room until it landed on Tessa before shifting across to e
I will let him live if you tell the bastard to not look at me or my mate!” I snap harshly, banging a hand down heavily on the table and enjoying sering the spy flinch.
Ne smotrite ni na kogo iz nikh, yesli khotite sokhranit‘ svoyu zhizn‘!” I listen as ion recites the message aloud in Russian, as I watch the man’s eyes fatt back down on to the floor with a stiff nod.
Kion cleared his throat next, snapping everyone’s attention back to him. “Purcells role is crucial,‘ he said firmly, as if anticipating the pushback. He’s been inside Dimitri’s stronghold. He knows the layout, the guard rotations, and the locations of key targets. Without him, our chances of success diminish significantly.”
‘That doesn’t excuse what he’s done,” I said, my voice low and dangerous. The room grew even quieter, the tension palpable, I didn’t care if Kion thought 1 was stepping out of line. Purcell didn’t deserve to still be standing here regardless of how good he is!
Kion met my gaze, his expression unreadable. “We all make mistakes, Alpha Kane. Some darker than others. But we’re here to focus on the future. -on taking Dimitri down. Personal grievances will have to wait til later.”
I could feel Tessa trembling beside me, and it only fueled the fire burning in my chest. I didn’t trust myself to respond, so I stayed silent, my jaw clenching as I stared at Purcell who refused to look up.

Viktor, one of the Russian wolves, broke the tension by stepping forward. His voice was thick with an accent, but his tone was sharp. Purcell already knows
the risks. If he betrays us, he dies. Simple as that. I don’t know what he has already done upset you Alpha Kane, but he will be punished accordingly when
this is all over.” He nods.
“I’ll hold you to that,” I said darkly, making sure Purcell heard me despite probably not knowing what exactly I had said.
Kion’s voice cut through the tension. “We need to stay focused here. The plan is now in motion, and we’ll need every resource at our disposal. Kane, you’re leading the second team with Viktor – are your pack members willing to fight with us? You’ll handle the northern approach to the compound. Purcell will
guide you.”
I couldn’t stop the growl that escaped me, but I nodded anyway. “They will fight if I tell them to… your little spy better stay on his best behaviour!” 1 grumble, but right now, this wasn’t about me.
This was about putting a full stop to what happened to Tessa and Erin

If using Purcell got us one step closer to ending Dimitri, then I’d stomach it.
For now.
The meeting dragged on as Kion outlined the details of the mission. Maps were spread across the table, and strategies were debated. Tessa remained quiet
beside me,
her hand still clinging to mine, though her grip had eased slightly as more time passed,
I couldn’t imagine what was going through her mind, but I hated that she had to endure this
that she had to remain in the same room as him.
As the meeting wrapped up, Kion dismissed everyone to prepare for tomorrow’s push as he had called it.
The Russian wolves filed out first to prepare their men, followed by the rest of Kin’s inner circle. Purcell lingered for a moment, his gaze flicking to Tessa once more before he followed the others out.

I was out of my seat in an instant, my body moving before my brain could stop me.
In two strides, I had Purcell pinned against the wall, my forearm pressing into his throat at crushing force. His eyes widened in surprise, and for the first time today, I saw fear flicker across his face.
If you so much as look at her again, I’ll make sure no one finds what’s left of you I roared, my voice low enough that only he could hear.
Alpha Kane, Kion’s voice was sharp, but I didn’t move.
She deserves better than having to see your face after what you did,” I spat on him. “You think being useful now makes up for it? It doesn’t.”
Purcell’s
I’s eyes were wide and frantic, darting to Kion in a plea to step in, but he didn’t. He had no idea what I was saying but he was at least knowledgeable
enough to know that it was a threat…
Kane, Tessa’s voice was soft but firm, cutting through my rage like a blade. “I–last let him go.”
I hesitated, my pulse pounding in my ears. Why was Tessa telling me to release harm of all people?!
With a final look at his face as it grew purple, I released him, stepping back as Purcell coughed and spluttered.
He didn’t look at me as he walked out, his footsteps fading down the hall as he moved quickly…
I turned to find Tessa watching me, her expression a mix of exhaustion and gratitude. “Thank you,” she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
I nodded, running a hand through my hair as I tried to calm the storm still raging inside me. “You don’t have to thank me, I muttered. “I should’ve already killed him last night.”
She stepped closer, her hand brushing against mine. Look at the bigger picture you’re doing what’s right to save those poor women and children.” she said softly, “Karma will come to him in other ways eventually.”
I didn’t have the words to respond, so I just pulled her into my arms, holding her close as the weight of everything settled over us.
Tomorrow, I embark on a war that I hadn’t prepared myself for, having been glazed by the task of getting Tessa back in my arms….
But this was the least I could do to thank Kion for everything he had done to bring my human back to me.
I’ll kill his brother.
