Kane’s POV
The sound that came next sent adrenaline slicing through me like a knife.
Bones snapping. Flesh stretching. Muscles tearing.
Dimitri was eventually shifting.
And fast…
Even injured, he was forcing the change with no care for the repercussions – his body convulsing violently as it twisted and bucked, dark for tearing through ruined skin like a monster rebirthing itself before our very eyes!
“Shit!” I hissed, instinctively pulling Sasha tighter into my chest as a blood–soaked snarl ruptured out through the tight space.
I have to keep this girl alive…
I couldn’t go back to Tessa and tell her otherwise!
Kion was quick on the mark though, as he lunged – shifting mid–air with a vicious crack of his own jaw, his massive golden wolf form slamming into Dimitri just as the transformation completed.
The two beasts collided in a blur of teeth, claws, and raw fury as Viktor moved to create more room.
The container rocked on its foundations. Metal screamed under the weight of the impact as they rolled around viciously – snapping at each other like rabid dogs in a cage too small for either of them.
I started backing away towards the door to protect Sasha, angling my body to block her view from the scene, feeling her shaking like a leaf in my hold.
I watched Dimitri manage to throw Kion across the space, as Viktor took this as his moment to also begin to shift… not wanting Dimitri to win the fight.
But that’s when I saw Dimitri do it…
His wolf’s black head snapped to the far corner of the container the second he had a moment to spare…
Since he had successfully managed to disengage from Kion to buy himself some time – it gave him just long enough to dive toward a rusted metal canister lodged behind some crates in the back…
What the fuck does he have up his sleeve now?!
But I saw it all too late…
His powerful jaws clamped down, fangs crunching through the metal casing like tinfoil before;
PSSSSHHHHHHHHHT!
A high–pitched hiss exploded out into the air.

Then came the burning sprays of rain.
“Silver! Take cover!” I yelled loudly as soon as I smelled it, as Kion and Viktor’s ears perked up at my words.
This prick fucking loves his silver!
It started spraying out aggressively towards Kion and Viktor in seconds flat – the spout quickly growing uncontrollable as it began to spiral around the
place…
The canister had fully burst open now, releasing a pressurised stream of liquid everywhere.
Kion yelped out loudly as Viktor howled at the pain too as they began manoeuvring around in an attempt to get away from it, finding no shelter.
Dimitri wasn’t completely spared either caught in the crossfire, his own black fur smoked under the corrosive stream
He planned this…
–
but the bastard didn’t care.
“F**k!” I gritted out at the scene before me, pivoting quickly just as the toxic mist started snaking towards us.
I bolted out with my arms tight around Sasha’s limp body as I lunged toward the exit and burst out into the forest, sucking in fresh air as she whimpered
faintly in my arms.
I dropped to my knees in the grass and lowered her down as gently as I could manage.
Her tear–streaked face turned toward me, confused, dazed
but she was safe and alive and that was all that mattered…
“I’ll be back for you,” I said firmly, brushing her blood–matted hair from her face. “You’re safe out here. I promise. Just don’t move!” I warned, and I didn’t wait for a reply either.
I had to help the others… I had to stop this bastard before things got more out of hand!
But then I heard him…
Dimitri.
A crash, then the bang of the container door flying open fully from beside us trail of scorched grass and steam in his wake.

He was bolting through the trees. Desperate. Still slick with silver but pushing through the agony, his shoulder dragging slightly from the earlier dislocation
but the fucker was definitely running!
Running off to hide again?
Not a chance.
I shifted mid–sprint.
My body morphed into fur and fury.
My wolf charged down the incline after him like death itself had been let loose from hell.

I heard the others shouting behind me, but their voices blurred into nothing as I ran.
All I saw was him ahead, and I was dead set on catching him.
Dimitri was struggling his path uneven, his left foreleg dragging slightly with each stride. The silver was slowing him down for. Burning through his ther
coat like acid.
Good.
My paws pounded the earth like war drums egging me onwards. Trees blurred past before he veered left
trying to throw me off, fat I was already closing
the gap.
And then-
He made a mistake.
A single misstep.
He stumbled.
And that was all I needed.
I slammed into him from behind with a force that shook the trees. We tumbled, snarling and rolling through broken sticks before crashing against a thick
pine.
CRACK!
Dimitri’s back collided with the bark hard enough to shake snow loose from the upper branches.
I didn’t give him time to recover either.
I launched forward again.
Fangs sank deep into his hind leg, yanking him off balance. He twisted mid–yelp and snapped at my throat, but I ducked low and slammed my shoulder into his ribs, driving him backwards.
We were no longer men.
We were monsters.
Two beasts locked in primal war for authority.
He clawed at my muzzle – landed a rake across my eye that burned like fire.
I responded by biting down on his already–injured shoulder, ripping at the torn muscle until he howled in sheer desperate agony. Blood sprayed across the remaining snow like ink.
But he was still vicious.
He feinted left and lunged right, sinking his teeth into my side. Pain rippled through my ribs, but I didn’t retreat. I twisted violently – forcing him to bite down harder just before I slammed him into the tree again.

He yelped, jaws unhinging just long enough for me to sink tay fangs into his throat.
Not deep enough to kill.
Just enough to bleed him. Just enough to remind him who the fuck I was.
He writhed, legs kicking uselessly.
I didn’t let go.
I could feel his pulse hammering under my jaws. Feel the panic.
I could put an end to him right here, right now…
But then…
A low, distant growl echoed out through the woods.
Kion.
He was on his way.
Growing closer.
I pulled back from Dimitri just enough to toss him to the ground.
His black wolf collapsed in the snow, panting, bleeding, silver–streaked and eventually broken.
I stood over him, my massive chest heaving with each breath.
And I waited.
Waited for Kion to come finish what he started.
Because I promised him that this was his kill… not mine.
