Night Watched Us Become Echoes by Iven Fros 93

Kane’s POV

64

The vehicle rocked steadily along the road, now fully warmed and heated as the sun shone high in the sky the true calm after the

storm…

We had been driving for a few hours at least, as Andrei took his time to find a familiar road to lead us back to Kion’s territory

The roads were quiet- eerily so, but we didn’t mind

Only the trees outside were still coated in a low thick fog, giving the illusion that we were driving through some halfformed dream

A cold one

A painful one

But one that was finally over

Sasha was still slumped over in the front, barely conscious now

Her head rested against Seth’s shoulder, her mouth parted slightly as she shivered through shallow breaths. Seth sat tense beside her, one arm curled protectively around her shoulders to hold her up, while his other hand gripped the edge of the seat like he could will her to stay alive through touch alone

I could hear him whispering something every now and then- soft reassurances like; Not much longerbut I doubted she could truly hear him anymore

I was sat in the back, directly across from Viktor, who had his eyes closed and arms folded tight across his chest

His posture was relaxed, but I could tell he wasn’t sleeping. Just gathering himself after everything that had gone down

The man had barely said a word since we left the clearing, but none of us had. His wolf was probably coiled inside him, resting in silence, trying not to snap. We’d all pushed ourselves to the brink these past hours there was no denying that

Kion sat at the far back, hunched forward with his elbows resting on his knees. His thick brows were furrowed in concentration, eyes half- lidded and distant as he tried once again to reach his pack through their mindlink, but finding we were still too far

Every so often, a muttered curse in Russian would slip from his mouth, low and aggravated, like he was wrestling a spirit in his mind

My own body ached like hell. Muscles screaming from the miles I’d run, face raw from the slash I’d received, ribs tight from the cold I’d endured and overall exhaustion from the hunt

Chapter 93

My skin still prickled from the lingering traces of silver mist, but it was nothing in comparison to what Kion and Viktor had faced…

I had burned through too much too fast- my strength, my stamina, everything- but somehow, I was still upright and stable. Still

breathing. And still burning with one singular need

To see Tessa again

I’d kill anyone in my path to see her again. To hold her

I was ready to tear this entire world apart if I didn’t get to her soon…

64

I needed to see her with my own two eyes. To touch her with my own two hands. To make sure she was real and safe and waiting for me

just as I’d left her unharmed

Every time I blinked, I saw her- smiling in memory or crying in fear- and each image only added fuel to the desire burning in my chest

All of thisall of this blood and agony, all the fucking filth we’d waded throughit meant nothing if I couldn’t hold her again and tell

her that everything was alright now

Suddenly, Kion sat up straighter gaining my attention, his eyes snapping fully open. He leaned back, jaw flexing as he stared ahead

distant but focused

I finally got through to the pack,he said at last, voice low but steady. His accent sounded far heavier when he was tired. They know we

are safe and alive. I told them we have Dimitri’s body with us.His gaze flicked to the lifeless heap in the corner, wrapped in a torn tarp

we had found back here. They are preparing for our arrival. A doctor will be waiting to see Sasha the moment we get there and the girls

are both fine too.”

A quiet breath escaped me- sheer relief filling me after his words

She just has to hold out a little longer now,Seth muttered from the front seat, as if reading my thoughts. He gently adjusted Sasha’s

head on his shoulder, then looked at me through the rearview mirror. You good?”

I gave a stiff nod. I will be soon.My voice came out like gravel. We all will be soon.”

Andrei chose that moment to speak, his accented voice rising up over the engine. We are approaching the pack border in five!”

My heart picked up instantly. Five minutes. That was all that separated me from Tessa now

I leaned forward slightly, resting my forearms on my knees, trying to force the anticipation down before it crushed me, I wasn’t a nervous male. I didn’t rattle easily. But this? The feeling I had in my chest wasn’t nerves

It was desperation

I needed to see her

Chapter 93

As if my very life depended on it

64

I needed her more than I needed sleep. More than I needed food or air. After everything we’d been through- after the days and nights I’d spent fighting my instincts, battling against every wall between us- she was the only thing that still made sense. The only thing I was

still certain about

–

I knew I would never let her away from me again. I knew she was mine forever the second they took her from me. I knew I would burn this entire country to the ground if it meant getting her back…

The rumble of the tires changed slightly as the road beneath us smoothed. Trees began to thin. The terrain started to shift- less wild now, more worn with age and memory. Flowers popping through from random shrubs as a welcome sign

The fog began to lift

We were getting closer…

My knee bounced restlessly, fingers twitching against my thighs as these five minutes seemed like the longest five minutes ever…

I could feel it in my bones now- her pull. My wolf stirred beneath my skin, like he could sense her just up ahead. She was near. She had

to be

They’ll be waiting for us,Seth said quietly, barely above the hum of the car. He didn’t look at me when he said it but I could tell his own

mind hadn’t stopped on Erin either

I cracked a smile- small, pained, but real. Yeah,I said. They better be.”

Another turn. Another bend in the road. As we began to pass by the border guards

Through the housed streets, the towns shops, and then eventually we saw it

Kion’s pack house gates up ahead- steel and timber, fortified and tall, with two guards on either side who immediately straightened upon

seeing our vehicle to open them

The engine slowed as Andrei guided us to a stop

I didn’t wait for the car to come to a complete halt. I was already moving, already reaching for the door

I was here

Now I just needed to get to her
