Chapter 2
I grew up with a silver spoon in my mouth. Never took shit from anyone.
So yeah, I had a temper. Couldn’t stand being pushed around.
Years ago, my parents died in a car crash.
Caleb thought the house felt too empty with just the two of us. So he brought home his sugar sister.
Olivia called me “sis” to his face. Behind his back? She’d frame me for hitting her.
Caleb tore into me. Said he’d spoiled me rotten.
I wasn’t about to take that. So I slapped her. Hard. Right across the face.
“THAT’S what hitting looks like.”
She sobbed like I’d murdered her. Dropped to her knees, begging Caleb for justice.
He demanded I apologize. When I refused, he raised his hand to slap ME.
I looked him dead in the eye.
“Caleb. Think real careful. You hit me, you’re not my brother anymore.”
His jaw clenched. Veins bulged at his temple. But his hand never came down.
Instead, he turned to Olivia. Pulled her up gently. Whispered apologies like she was made of glass.
“I’m sorry, Liv. Sophia’s spoiled. I’ll handle her. Don’t cry…”
I scoffed. What could he possibly do to me?
Worst case? A beating. And I’d make damn sure to pay him back for it.
Turns out, I was dead wrong.
A few days later, Caleb announced we were bankrupt.
Said he was going to prison for six years. Financial crimes.
I panicked. Grabbed every piece of jewelry, every designer bag he’d ever given me.
Wasn’t even close to covering the debt.
He went to prison. Our mansion got seized. I became a homeless orphan overnight.

Chapter 2
For the next FIVE years, I hit wall after wall. His enemies hunted me down.
Couldn’t get a job. Couldn’t even work as a bar girl–no one would hire me. So I dug through trash to survive. Lived worse than
sewer rats.
Every day, someone texted me. Told me how many times I’d need to sell my body to pay off Caleb’s debt.
My apartment walls were constantly smeared with red paint. Looked like blood. Wouldn’t come off no matter how hard I
scrubbed.
The 3 AM knocks were the worst.
I’d open the door. No one there.
Just fake money scattered everywhere. Funeral wreaths. Paper dolls meant for the dead.
I thought about leaving New York.
But Caleb was still in prison. Waiting for me.
So I stayed. Broke down. Healed. Broke down again. Tried to die but couldn’t even do THAT right.
Over and over. No end in sight.
When I swallowed those pills, I felt guilty.
Olivia had already run. Now I was running too.
What would Caleb do when he got out and no one was left?
But then… he saved me.
Why?
Caleb, you shouldn’t have saved me.
You should’ve watched. Cold. Unmoved. Laughed as I destroyed myself.
Better than letting me find out the truth–that these five blood–soaked years were just your idea of punishment.
I cried until I had nothing left. Then I went to the prison.
Before this, I never visited him. Not once.
I was terrified he’d see how broken I was. Didn’t want him to worry.
But now I got it. He was probably fine this whole time.
The only one suffering? Me.

Sure enough, the guard laughed when I asked for him.
“Miss, we don’t have any inmate named Caleb Miller. You sure you got the right name?”
The sunlight was blinding. Made my eyes sting with fresh tears.
I looked down.
“Guess I got it wrong. If he’s not here… I’ll just go home and check.”
