Sienna took his backpack like it was routine and ruffled his hair.
Like they were the real mother and son.
“Sienna, what happened to your face?”
She turned away fast, hair covering her cheek.
“Nothing, sweetie. Just… grown–up stuff. Don’t worry about it.”
She paused.
“Jax, listen. Once your dad and I get married, you’re gonna be mine. Like, really mine.”
Her voice got soft.
“I can’t have kids anymore. So you’ll be it for me. My only one.”
Jax froze, his whole body going stiff.
After what felt like forever, he looked up at her with these dark, unreadable eyes.
“Dad told me. This was Mom again, wasn’t it?”
Sienna stayed silent. Didn’t deny it.
I lunged forward, screaming at the top of my lungs.
“NO! Jax, it wasn’t me! I never hurt her! NEVER!”
But Jax just kept his head down, convinced I was some kind of monster.
Storm clouds rolled in, making the air feel thick and suffocating
They walked in silence all the way back to the apartment complex. Sienna only left when they reached the front door.
BANG.
The front door flew open.
Jax stormed in and chucked his backpack across the room.
He shouted toward the balcony.
“How could you DO that?! Sienna can’t have kids! She can’t have KIDS now!”

“Are you happy?! Huh?! Is this what you wanted?!”
“You think–you think because you saved me I’m stuck with you forever?!”
“I can’t–1 can’t even look at you anymore!”
I wanted to explain. But what could I say?
He was completely falling apart.
“You’re gonna make me feel like shit my whole life! My WHOLE LIFE!”
“That’s what you want?!”
“I wish I was dead! I wish-”
His voice broke.
“Why didn’t you just let me die?! WHY?!”
“Should’ve been me! It should’ve been ME under that truck!”
I tried to wipe away his tears, to tell him it wasn’t true, that Sienna was lying.
Mom never blamed you, sweetheart.
But my hand passed right through him.
Right. I forgot. I was already dead.
I hugged Jax as tight as I could.
“It’s okay, baby. Just let it out.”
“Mommy’s not gonna be in your way anymore.”
“You don’t have to feel bad. Not about me.”
“I’m already gone, sweetheart. So please… please don’t cry.”
But Jax couldn’t hear me.
The door slammed open again. Wyatt stood there, backlit by the hallway light.
He set the divorce papers on the table and spoke toward the balcony.
“Delilah… we gotta get divorced.”
“I been thinking this forever. We can’t keep doing this. I’m tired. Jax is tired.”

Chapter 4
“I’ll handle everything, okay? You’ll be fine. That place in Switzerland–it’s nice. Really nice. They’ll take care of you there.”
The balcony stayed silent. No response.
Wyatt. I’m already dead. I don’t need your money. You don’t need to divorce a ghost.
I’m not dragging you down anymore.
Wyatt frowned.
“Quit acting like a kid. Me and Jax already decided.”
“Just… let us move on.”
The apartment stayed dead quiet. Everyone waiting for me to say something.
But I couldn’t make a sound.
They exchanged a glance.
“Mom, I wanna be with Dad and Sienna.”
“Please, Mom. Please just let me go. I’m so tired.”
“I want a normal mom. Like Sienna. I don’t wanna feel guilty anymore. I just can’t.”
I floated next to the wheelchair, letting out this soft sigh.
One more step forward and you’ll see the empty chair.
I already made the choice you wanted.
Now you can live however you want.
That’s when someone knocked on the door–building management.
“Mr. Reid, I’m really sorry, but… the body downstairs? It’s your wife. Delilah.”
