I crouch down in front of Roland and reach into my lab coat pocket to give him a sucker. “You’re going to do amazing on your first day of school.”
“Thank you,” he sniffles and wraps his arms around me before he runs over to his mom to show her the candy. His mom bows her head and picks him up. He is going to love all the attention he’s going to be getting.
“Hey,” Ragnar greets me. I check the time to see that my shift is almost done. Joclyn, Aimee’s afternoon assistant, takes this moment to walk through the door.
“Hey,” I greet him and wave at her when she heads to the back to prepare for her shift. “Am I being kidnapped again?”
“No, Ivar dropped me off so we can go home together,” he smiles tightly.
“Did something happen?” I ask. He nods, but the fact that he doesn’t want to say anything here tells me I’m going to need to wait until we’re somewhere safe to elaborate.
“Thank you for everything today,” Aimee says, coming over. She bows her head to Ragnar, but she doesn’t really spare him a look. “I’m sorry I made you come in over the weekend.”
“It’s fine. Are you going to need me in tomorrow?”
“No, no. I’m not opening up tomorrow. It’ll be a late night for me. I have to run inventory and order some new supplies. I’ll see you Monday.”

She awkwardly walks away, and I don’t understand how we went through the day without a problem, only to end up like this or why they’re upset with Ragnar. I was the one who attacked Anastasia, but she was the one who chose to make the threat. He had nothing to do with it.
Once in the car, I take a deep breath and try to relax after the long morning. There’s some kind of bug going around, giving the pups fevers and nasty pulmonary infections. “As an omega, I have no choice but to go back,” I nod. “I know the laws of an omega wolf.”
