“You came back,” the King, Baldr Axel, smiles at me like I’ve made his day.

I don’t know what I walked into, but I don’t think he expected me, and he is trying to mask what he was doing very poorly. The sight is familiar, and I find it funny how similar he is to both Ivar and Ragnar. He waves me into his office and raises his hands from where he was hiding them under the desk. He places a box of crumbl cookies on the desk and sits back with a sigh of relief.
Should I lock the door?” I ask him.
Please,” he nods. I laugh and lock the door behind me. I take a seat in front of him. He takes a cookie and pushes the box owards me. “You can have one. Just not this one. The red velvet is my favorite. So, it’s mine.”
lean forward to see that he has a hot chocolate one. I take it, and he slides a napkin across. He takes the box and sets it lown behind him somewhere. He then sets two tea cups between us. His high–back chair actually spins all the way around. When he faces me once again, he’s holding a ceramic teakettle.
Four cubes?” he asks.
Yes, how did you know that?”
Your grandmother takes it the same. I took a leap of faith,” he smirks and pours the tea.
She influenced you into tea, too?”
Oh, yeah. She won’t ever shut up about it once she gets going. I just drink it now. The stuff with lavender is my favorite,” he bushes the teacup over to me.
Thank you,” I take the little ceramic tea spoon to mix it. The two of them are so ridiculous, it’s adorable.
I want to start by saying that I am sorry for the misunderstanding between Ragnar and you and for the security breach. Romano is a slippery and crafty little shit. He ran east, and it’s not easy to track alphas when they don’t want to be found. I’ve added a second team to your security.”
That gives me peace of mind,” I didn’t even know he had a team on me to begin with. I know Ragnar has a shadow on me,
out a team?
Listen, Ragnar’s well–being is everything to me. After the incident, he and Ivar were all I had left, and I would do anything to make sure they are always at their best. He is the King now, and I want to make the transition as smooth as possible.
‘He has a lot of ideas that will shake our race, and after observing the two of you together, I see that you admire his ambition as a mate should, and he yours. You two make an amazing team. Which is why the tension between the two of you is so uncharacteristic. I apologize for assuming the worst. It comes with being the King and the father of two fucking assholes. Which brings me back to you. I am going to give you some advice”
“I would greatly appreciate it, sir,” I smile.
“Ivar is a realist. As much as his head is up in the clouds, he likes to be told things as they are. Good or bad. Ragnar gives you the fucking run around. You have to guilt everything out of him He’s just like his mother. Everything is a damned mind game. But above all, the two of them require a level of patience only your grandmother has ever had. I know they both care for you. My final piece of advice is give them hell Gods know they deserve it”
I laugh and finish my cookie.
I appreciate the advice, sir. I apologize for making you worry. It was never my intention, and I am sure it’s not his either

Ragnar and I are crossing a bridge neither of us thought would ever happen again. All things considered, I think there will be times when we’re not going to be on the same page. Especially when we both have such different upbringings. I can compromise and say we’ll do our best to keep our personal stuff away from our training.”
“That’s a good compromise,” he lifts his right eyebrow. “I know it’s late, and I can feel his impatience from downstairs. Take care of each other, Sophia. It’s not often we get second chances,” he dismisses me and turns to his computer. I get up to leave and then turn back to drink the rest of the tea. “Yes, I liked this one too. Don’t tell her I said that; she won’t shut up about the process. I can really care less.”
“Yes, sir,” I bow and get out of his study as fast as I can. I look around now wanting to know where the hell his guards are and if my shadow is aware they’ve been watching us.
You smell like chocolate,” Ragnar says, almost accusingly, the moment I am within reach.
Yeah, your dad gave me a cookie and some tea,” I nod. “All done.”
‘Let’s go,” he says, taking my arm to lead me out of the castle and towards the garage.
The building is huge for starters. He opens the large industrial door, which reveals a staircase. We step inside, and he pulls he door shut. It’s dark for a moment before bright fluorescent lights begin to light up the stairs. The walls are lined with glass, and on the other side, all I can see is dirt.
The staircase curves downward. We go down a few flights, I’m not sure how many, but when the floor opens up, I can’t believe my eyes. There are dozens of luxury cars down here, ranging from brand–new to what I’m pretty sure are custom early models from when cars were invented. All I can do now is let Ragnar lead me through them without saying a word. I snort when he stops in front of a baby–blue vintage Bronco that seems to have been restored to look modern.
‘Stay there for a moment,” he says and disappears into the long rows of unused cars.
Car collectors would eat their hearts out for a chance to see something this insane. I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to witness it. If we weren’t in a hurry to see Seraph about his scar, I would want the grand tour. I’m hoping that I get to come down here with Ivar one day. I know for a fact that he’ll know all the nerdy details about each and every one of these cars.
This is not something I can see you driving around in,” I say when Ragnar comes back.
‘It’s not for me. It’s yours,” he says and holds up a pair of silver keys.
“What?” I shake my head.
‘Your car is obvious, and he knows it already. This one is custom and has a built–in security system. It will sustain an attack from any wolf. It would mean a lot to my dad and me if you take it for now. He was the one who had it made for you he shrugs casually. “Please, don’t be difficult about this. I chose a model I thought you would love.”
He stands in front of me and takes my hand to drop the keys into my palm. All I can do is look up at him. Everything in me wants to protest and tell him that they are overreacting. But the truth is that I’m assuming the worst I don’t know how far this is going to go, and the least I can do is give him the peace of mind he’s asking for. I close my hand over the keys and
nod.
“Thank you,” I say, clearing my throat. I lean to my left to look behind him at the car. “You weren’t wrong to choose this one He’s so cute.”
