When we arrive at the castle, it’s raining heavily. The King is waiting for me at the front door. I reach into the back seat to get my medical bag. Thank goodness I replaced everything last night while Ragnar and I were going over the books from the temple.
The King comes over with a spare umbrella and offers it to me before I climb out. The girl who valets the cars jumps into the front seat as we head inside. She smiles, taking in the new car. I personally love that thing so I get it.
“I wanted to thank you for the car,” I tell the King as we head over to his wing of the castle.
“You have no reason to thank me. Your safety is my priority. You mean too much to all of us. I have also taken the liberty of making some changes to your bug. I hope you don’t mind. I know you are very fond of it. Zara told me that it was a gift from
your mother when I told her that Ragnar and I chose a new car for you.”

We get to a part of this wing that I’ve never seen before. The walls are white, but in the corners, pink sakura trees and flowers. have been hand–painted. The decor is a lot more feminine. The furniture is vintage, but it’s very obvious that someone has hand–customized it with paint and metallic sheet covers.
On one of the curvy sofas is Queen Helena. She looks significantly different from the last time I was in her presence. She tenses up when she sees me. “I’m sorry to hear that. If I may, I’d like to start you up with an immediate IV, and I have a few things to help with the other problem. I just restocked my bag, so you’re in luck.”

“Have you been here alone all this time?”
“With everything going on, I don’t trust anyone to come here. It’s the one thing Baldr and I agree on.”
“You should have sent for me,” I say, wiping down her belly to insert the IV butterfly. “This is an automatic IV, so all you have to do is change the pack here,” I hand her the device. “I can also give you any medicine you need through here, so there won’t be any additional shots. With that said, you can’t be moving around too much without risking it popping out.”
“It wasn’t like this with Ivar,” she says.
“That is because Ivar is a boy,” I smile.
Her eyes sparkle, and her hand immediately goes to her belly just above where I insert the butterfly. I secure it with a plastic bandage. I test the tubes before I attach them to her. I set the IV and leave it open to give her a vitamin shot.
‘Do you think she’s okay?” she asks.
‘She’s very strong,” I nod. “Your estrogen and progesterone levels are perfect. It’s what is causing your spotting.”
‘You didn’t use a machine to check that,” she
says.
‘I can smell it. It’s something I’ve been able to do since I started my medical training. I also used to work at the maternity ward in Artume General. I’m very familiar with all of this. Ever since shifting, those senses have only gotten stronger
