My heart is pounding away at my chest as if trying to escape from the very courtroom with or without my permission. Th was the first step, and while the judge made it clear that she wasn’t reversing the rejection. I know there are ways around th rule. Religious ways.
The alpha King didn’t just leave because Santiago is an asshole. I’ve never known that man to back down from a challenge. That asshole went to get reinforcements. Taking the City from him was personal. Even if it’s something as petty as letting this go, he’s going to go out of his way to inconvenience Ragnar.
“The Alpha King leaving is a good thing, right?” Alariq asks.
“No,” the hairs on the back of my neck stand at the sound of her voice. “It’s quite the opposite, actually.”
Second Princess Florence Axel is the smallest Lycan in existence. She was born with a rare dwarfism condition. She is four feet two inches tall. She’s a couple of years younger than the King himself, but she doesn’t look any older than me.
Her dark brown hair is divided up into locs, and those locs are currently pulled up into a perfect bun on the top of her hea She has on a pair of aí powered glasses that are a little too big for her face. She’s wearing a black pleated skirt, a satin black button–up, and a black vest. The Mary Janes on her feet are the cutest things I’ve ever seen.
She holds out her portfolio, and Alariq is quick to take it and set it on her desk. He pulls his seat out for her, and she hops u onto the chair without an issue. I clear my throat when she turns to face me.
Her eyes are a gentle shade of lavender. There are flakes of silver in them that make them seen almost glittery. Her feet don’t touch the ground; it’s like being next to a child, but it’s her eyes that give away how old she really is.
The reaction to her presence is palpable. The other Lycans are glad she’s here, and it shows by the way they’ve all calmed down for her the moment she walked through those two doors. I glance back when the doors open again, and a man with a team of guards walks in. He’s about my height, but his presence is on par with my grandmother’s.
“Uncle,” Ivar stands to greet him. He towers over him the same way they do me, but the respect in his demeanor speake
volumes.
“Sorry, we’re late, boys. Marie was a bit fussy. She just recovered from a cold, and she got a little clingy he greets the guys
“It’s all right. Did the medicine help?” the King asks.
“Greatly, we were getting desperate,” he nods. The team of six are let through to sit at the front bench with them. They all shake hands before settling down.
Thank Sophia. She recommended it,‘ he says, looking over at me. The man smiles at me and bows his head respectfully
“The case, Princess Axel sighs.
“Right, he’s coming back with reinforcements. The grand Bishop of Calaberas. I prepared for this as well. Jose Antonio Ceballos was a public defender before he lost his mate. After she passed, he took the sows of the temple of the mean in Austri. He’s the Inggest asshole I’ve ever out and I know Ragnar Axl‘ I say and book up at him he was for his reactions,

raised by Mr and Ms Caveman,” she huffs, looking between the King and my grandmother. “May I?”
“Yes,” I clear my throat.
When I reach for the binder, my grandmother places her hand over my arm, giving me a reassuring squeeze. I flip through the binder to what she needs and slide it over to her. The recess we were granted gives her enough time to study the binder. I glance over at Ragnar, and he motions for me to follow him.
He stands up and opens the little swinging door separating the floor level from the audience for me. A growl comes from behind him when I step through and take his hand when he offers it. Without saying a word, Ragnar escorts me to the bathroom with Ivar following behind us. Ivar clears the bathroom before I go inside.
Once I’m alone, I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. My body feels it’s safe enough for me to let my guard down. The trembling takes over as the memories of my last moments at Santiago’s side replay in my head. My grip on the sink cracks the porcelain. I hear the door open behind me and see Ragnar walk in cautiously.
“Do you need-”
Before he can finish his question, I turn around and wrap my arms around him. He lifts me onto the counter and simply holds me. I don’t have tears for this anymore, but the fear is quite real. Having him this close has triggered reflexes I didn’t know I had.
“I hate him,” is all I can say. He rubs small circles on my back to calm me.
“Me too,” he agrees.
When I look up at him, I feel an insane amount of guilt for saying what I did last night. He was trying to give me a way out. of this mess, and honestly, it’s something a mate would do. Instead of trying to explain to him that this is more than just bailing me out of a shit hole I buried myself in, I turned my back on him.
“I’m sorry,” I say, placing my hands on his chest. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just-”
“Hey,” he stops me. He places his hand over my throat gently and pulls me into him. “Don’t do that. I was being an asshole. I’m just scared.”
“Me too,” I nod. “But this is one of those things where the risk is worth more than just getting what I want.”
“I know,” he nods.
“We’ve got this,” I lower my hands in case he’s hurting and just doesn’t want to say anything.
I take a moment to take in what he’s wearing. It’s a little casual. Black slacks with a dark royal blue button–up. His sleeves are folded just under his elbows. He has a fresh haircut. The aftershave he’s wearing tonight is mouth–watering. His exposed skin bears his military achievements wherever it is visible. His arms, his neck, and his hands.
“What?” he asks, when I try to fight my smile.
“Did you get all pretty because he was going to be here?” I laugh. He growls at me playfully and squeezes my cheeks in one hand enough to pucker my lips. He presses his lips to mine softly.
“Pretty, huh?” he asks when he leans away,
“Why are you taking the evac program if you’ve more than proven your worth?” I ask, placing my hand on his wrist.
“As the King, I have to be proficient in every military program we offer. This is my last trial before my father fully retires. You’re just lucky to come along for the ride with me on my final step to greatness,” he grins.

Chapter 116
“Stupid,” I swat his hand away.
“Do you feel better?” he whispers, pressing closer to me.
“Yes,” I nod, looking up at him so he knows I’m not lying. He pulls away to let me off the counter. I stop him before he was towards the door. He looks down at his hand in mine before looking back at me. “After
“After?”
“When this is over, if the offer still stands, and you want to piss him off further, I smile imaging the look on Santiago’s face. “You have my permission to mark me.”
