I’ve been staring at the blank screen on my phone long enough for me to feel embarrassed about it. When I look up to hide my phone from myself, the person beside me lets out a little cough. I look over at the woman to see that she’s got a floss string around her two index fingers, ready to put it in her mouth She looks down at the string and lowers it as her cheeks flame up with probably the equal amount I need to be feeling.
“I’m sorry,” she says defensively. “I–you were out of it for a while didn’t see the harm. Remember, I didn’t interrupt your catatonic trance. Forgivzies are in order.”
“Forgivzies?” I laugh. “Uh, yeah. I’m sorry too. I just can’t believe where my life is heading.”
“Ugh, girl. Preach. I don’t want to be here either. My Mom thinks that sending me off to the military will help settle me down,” she rolls her beautiful blue eyes. No, that’s not quite right Her eyes look like a very starry galaxy.
“Your
eyes are the prettiest thing I have ever seen in my entire existence,” I compliment. She raises her hand as if to reach for her pearls with a very flattering smile on her face.
“Thank you,” she laughs and then leans in to sniff me. “You’re a werewolf?”
“Yeah,” I nod. “Sophia Helvig.”
“Oh, the halfbreed,” she nods. “What the fuck are you doing here” Before I can answer, she leans forward to hug me. “I cannot believe the ice bitch would do that to you after what you had to endure with those dogs.”
“The Ice Bitch?” I snort.
“You’re grandmother,” she clarifies. “Hold on,” she says, sitting up in her seat and whispering something to the people in the seats behind ours. “You were right, Sasha, it is her.”
“Oh, shit. We have a princess fighting for the ranks,” two women poke their heads over the headrests to look down at us.
“Hello,” I wave at them, not knowing what to do.
“Her grandma sent her,” the woman beside me points me out.
“We are so sorry,” the third one says.
“I didn’t catch your name,” I tell the woman beside me.
“Oh, my bad. I’m Avian. Like those water bottles,” she rolls her eyes. “My Dad named the company after me.
“I’m Sasha,” one of the other waves back at me.
“I’m Kennedy,” the third says.
“Sophia,” I introduce myself.
“We know,” the three of them say in unison.
“Are you sisters?” I ask. The three of them laugh almost identically.
“No,” Avian shakes her head. “We’re married.”
“The three of you?” I ask.
“Yes,” they all answer in unison.

Chapter 61
“We’re Dutchesses of the sistering regions. Politics,” Sasha explains.
“We’re in the military to find officer mates,” Kennedy adds with a bitter edge to her tone.
“Your politics intrigue me,” I admit, making the three of them laugh. “Were you all raised together?”
“Yes,” Sasha nods. “Is that noticeable?”
“Kind of. It’s why I thought you were sisters. You can tell you’re all around one another a lot.”
“I told you,” Kennedy glares at Avian.

None of them shares any similarities now that I take them in a little more. Avian has very fair skin. I thought she had freckles, but now that I’m looking at her directly, they’re spray–on. She has a full glam makeup look set with cool tones that showcase her beautiful eyes phenomenally.
Sasha is the color of the perfect milk coffee. Her eyes are an intense neon green. Her braids zigzag on her scalp and sit majestically on her shoulders, with what look like diamond beads at their ends. Her makeup is also done with cool tones.
Kennedy is a very warm shade of caramel. Her dark eyebrows frame her gloriously golden eyes. Her thick black hair is in a single French braid that looks like rope draped over her shoulder. She has an elegant gold chain linked from her ear to her nose piercing, adorned with orange jewels that match her gorgeous bindi.
“My grandmother didn’t make me come here. I want to be here, I inform them. The three of them exchange looks.
“Why?” Sasha asks, confused.
“I’m the last of my bloodline. I think I owe it to us to go out with a bang,” I shrug.
“Oh, I forgot you’ve only been exposed to Lycans from the palace. Yeah, those guys believe war is the only glory in life. They give us all a bad name,” Kennedy scoffs. Sasha elbows her. “Sorry
“I thought wolves were super into not dying. Or is that humans Im thinking about?” Avian asks.
“Same thing,” Sasha snorts. I can’t help but laugh.
“No offense,” Kennedy waves it off.
“None taken. You can’t spell immortal with immoral,” I shrug.
“Ah,” Sasha lets out a low squeak.
“That’s a good one,” Avian laughs. “Okay, princess. I think you’re going to fit right in.”
“But seriously,” Kennedy waves her hand in my direction to get y attention. “I’m sorry about what those alpha’s did to you. Santiago Romano is a fucking punk, and his dad is a total cuck.”
“Mhm,” Sasha and Avian agree. The three of them snap their fingers.
“We are about to land. Please, put your seatbelts on for a landing the captain announces.
I clip my seatbelt on and look over to see that Avian has no idea hat to do. I reach over and help her clip everything into place. She gives me a tight nod and then grips the belt. I pat her hand and sit back to look out of the window.
It’s dark, and all I can see are the water drops sliding across the gass. When I look over at Avian again, she’s got her eyes shut, and it sounds like she’s singing the New Girl theme song. I reach over, taking her hand. Her eyes snap open, and she looks over at me with glossy eyes. I wink at her, and she tightens her hold on my hand.
The landing is smooth, and I try not to find her fear of dying in plane funny. You know, for an immortal Lycan such as

herself. As the four of us make our way to the luggage belt, I can help but think of the messages I received.
I don’t know how he got my number, but it was a message from Santiago.

-I bet you’ve been hearing this all day. Congratulations on getting into the world’s greatest military medical program. I’d say you deserve it, but we both know that it pays to be Zaraphine Hevig’s granddaughter. Just as it did being my mate.
I want you to know that I’m not mad at you, Baby. In fact, I’m a tle impressed that you had all of that in you. I never would have guessed. You can play soldier for as long as you want, my love. Know that you are welcome to come home when you please. I forgive you for embarrassing my family and me. Yours always.-
He bombarded my phone with pictures and videos of us. The final picture is of his dick. A part of me knows that if he hadn’t chosen Poppy, this would be the kind of message he would have to send me to get me to forgive him. Just a little reminder of how much fun we have when we’re together.
The rest of me is fuming. Not because he makes me nauseous, o because every time I think about him I want to rip my hair out. It’s the reminder of how far I went under him, only for him to strip it all away with a few nasty words about my omega status. It’s as if I mean nothing for being unworthy of a wolf spirit.
His words should mean nothing anymore, but they leave that inkling of doubt. I hate him, and I hate myself for ever thinking that he was everything I could ever need. It’s all I feel I have left anymore. This rage. This burning anger that refuses to go out or turn me to ashes. And it serves to remind me that he won.
