“You have just landed, and you’ve already secured a job at the clinic?” my grandmother asks as I reach for the blue–and–white Cinnamon Roll scrubs. “You have a very generous downtime, and you want to spend it working and doing a semester at the university before a six–month deployment to England?”
“What else am I supposed to do?” I laugh. “Sit around here for the next eight months?”
“Yes, I was hoping to see more of you. I missed you,” she flips the ends of my hair playfully.
“I missed you too, but if I stop to take a full break like that, I will literally go insane,” I sigh.
“Have you heard from Ragnar?” she asks suddenly.
“No, and I doubt I will any time soon.”
“Wishful thinking,” she huffs. I look up at her and then turn around to see the King and his brother coming in our direction.
“F**k,” I say under my breath. She laughs and steps away to give us some privacy.

“My Prince. I hear you’re the man to see about the best PC parts am trying to bribe my granddaughter into staying home a little more. Think you can help?” She stops Ivar from coming closer. The way his eyes light up makes me smile.
“Hell yeah, there are sixteen stores here that will get you everything you need. What do you want the computer to do?” he
muses.
“Computer things?” she asks, taken aback by his enthusiasm. She glances back at me and mutters, “Save me,” as he hauls her away, yapping about the one thing he loves more than he does his kingdom.
“She set herself up for that one,” Ragnar says, and for once, I have to agree with him. I look up at him to see that he looks as tired as I feel. He hasn’t been sleeping, and that makes two of us.
“You need to rest. You shouldn’t be out and about looking like this. It might be an invitation for an attack,” I clear my throat and tip his shades down to cover the bags under his eyes before turn around to continue shopping.
“What are you doing here?” he asks, gently. I hold up the scrubs draped over my arm I end up getting the Cinnamon Roll ones. “You’re working with Aimee?”
“How do you know that?”
“She was looking for help when I last spoke to my father. Aimee my mother’s little sister,” he explains.
“Oh, I didn’t know that. Thank you for letting me know,” I say and continue to look through the clothes. “Is there anything I can help you with today, my King?”
“Sophia,” he sighs as I’m the one being difficult. “Will you let me treat you to lunch?”
People are looking at us, and the last thing I want to do is cause nod and motion for the cash register so I can pay for my things. she rings me up. The giant grin on her face is making me want but Ragnar beats me to it.

“You didn’t have to do that,” I say as we make our way over to the food court.
He doesn’t say a word. I get sushi from the Poke bar, and he gets burgers. The two of us sit down away from the crowded areas. I am stunned by the way he cats. As if he hasn’t eaten in days. His first burger is gone in four bites, but, in his defense, it looks like sliders in his hands. I take a big bite of my tempura ggies, but it will never be as big as his, and it makes me laugh.

“Nothing,” I shake my head.
“Do you always eat small amounts of food?” he asks when I reach for a slice of my sushi roll.
“This is a serving of food,” I laugh. “We can’t all eat for an army.”
“I’m a growing Lycan,” he shrugs. “I get hungry.”
“I see that,” I nod.

“Sophia, I am sorry for the way you found out about us,” he says after a while. I take a sip of my tea. “I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“Okay,” I shrug it off.
“Okay?” he glares at me.
“What do you want me say? You knew from the start. We’ve been friends for three years, and it’s pretty clear that you didn’t intend to tell me what this was. Ever. You spent the past three years scaring away any potential suitors, but you never intended to claim me properly until you didn’t have a choice.
“You’ve treated me as if I meant nothing, and I accepted it because we are nothing more than friends with a couple of shared experiences. You know exactly what I went through with Santiago, and you still chose to treat me the same way he did, knowing that we were on a second chance.”

“People talk, Ragnar. I know you’re not oblivious to the way all females react to you. You’re a fucking king. Everyone knows your business. Everything you have ever done is being written as we speak because of who and what you are.
“You could have told me. I was in no position to accept another mating when we met again. I wouldn’t have been angry or even judged you for it. I’m not now. I’m upset with you because ou lied to me. Then you hurt one of your Generals for something you are to blame for.
“You can’t just say you’re sorry and expect me to roll over for you I’ve been that girl before. I have the scars and have made a lot of money from the apology gifts I was given. You put your hand on me with the intent to hurt me. You swore you’d never take another mate again, and I swore I would not fall victim to assholes like you who think that the world needs to get on its knees simply because you breathe.
“Thank you for the sushi and for paying for my scrubs. I understand that we need to talk about this and that it’s not going to be easy for either of us. But I don’t want to talk about it right now. If you’re not going to reject me here, then I take my leave. I have a lot more things I need to do before I start school on Monday.”
“Why do you think I’m going to reject you?” he stops me.
