Chapter 73

There are people with burns and serious injuries all over the place. The medics have arrived with oxygen tanks and more supplies. Dr Polucci and I have already taken care of the more severe injuries. As the first on scene, we’re the ones giving orders and assigning priorities to the teams that are showing up.
There are at least two to three hundred Lycans being evacuated from the castle. There are officers and military officials moving inside to see if there are more explosive devices. Some of the less injured are saying that the devices had been planted long before they went off. It doesn’t surprise me that the Alpha King would stoop this low after he pardoned the
Romanos.
“Is there a Sophia Helvig here?” someone calls out.
“Sophie!” Dr Polucci waves me down. “Her, right there.”
“Lady Sophia, the King has requested you assistance. It’s Prince Ivar,” a huge, scary–looking man comes over to me. “You’ll need supplies.”
“Does he have burns? Wounds?” I ask without hesitation.
“A bomb went off near him. He has splinters and a few shards of glass on his torso.”
“Thank you…”
“Forgive me, my Lady,” he bows. “My name is Emilio.”
I take what I need and signal Dr Polucci that I am going with Emilio. She gives me a thumbs up and waves me off. The two of us run back inside away from where the bombs have gone off. As soon as we get to the eighth floor, I catch the scent of blood. I run past Emilio to see Ragnar kneeling in front of his brother.
“Hey,” I run over to the two of them. I immediately take my flashlight out of my pocket. “Follow my finger.”
“Don’t put it anywhere weird, Helvig,” Ivar jokes, and I laugh.
“You are way too concussed to be making a joke like that, freak,” I sigh in relief. I begin to inspect his wounds. “I’m going to need your help taking some of these glass shards out of his side. In my bag, at the bottom, is a box of large latex gloves. Put some on, please,” I tell Ragnar as I start prepping to stitch up his wounds until his healing can take care of the rest. “Has anyone seen my grandma?”
“Right here, my love,” I look back to see her sitting in an armchair on the other side of the library. I smile back at her.
“Are
you also hurt?”
“Not as bad as the boy. Continue,” she waves me off.
“I’ll be right there,” I reassure her. I look up at Ivar and smile.
“Don’t look at me like that,” he shakes his head. “That’s your fucking evil smirk.”
“This is going to hurt, buddy,” I say calmly and rip a piece of his t–shirt off him so that I can roll it up. “Bite down on this.”
“Oh, I hate so much, right now,” he growls lowly and takes it.
“I am going to clean these out one by one,” I inform him. “You’re lucky that Dr Polucci taught me a really cool trick this morning, or I’d have to use alcohol to do this.”

“Mmm” he groans, making a pained expression. He bites down on the shit as I open one of the sanitizing water bottles and set it down beside him.
I’m going to pull this big piece out, and you’re going to cover it when I tell you, I instruct Ragnar.
Okay, he agrees, taking the gauze 1 hand him.
“Also, I’m sorry I told Dr Polucci about this, but I was really excited to tell someone, and she seems very trustworthy to me, I add.
“We’ll talk about that later, he glares at me.
I take the shard embedded in Ivar’s side and pull it out without moving it around. It slides right out, and there doesn’t seem to be any small shards in there. I focus on the water in the bottle and pull it towards me the way she taught me.
Dr Polucci has telekinetic abilities, and she said that the focus of moving things around is similar to that of an elemental So when we had a small break between patients, she tested my ability to focus on this and taught me how to incorporate it in our work. She said that her mentor also has a water affinity.
“What the fuck?” Ivar pants watching the water move towards his wound.
He groans when I spin it a little to make sure there aren’t any other shards in there. I pull it back and guide it to the water bottle. His wound immediately starts to stitch itself back together.
“Now, I tell Ragnar. He places the gauze over the wound, and I tape it in place. We continue the process until all his wounds are clean. “Tweezers, in the little pocket inside the bag”
“Here,” he hands them to me. I gently remove the splinters that are along his cheek and neck. I clean them up with some water, but they don’t need to be covered up.
“You’re all set,” I sit back, taking my bloodied gloves off.
“Thank you,” he says, looking exhausted. He tosses the piece of his t–shirt on the floor to try and catch his breath.
“You never have to thank me,” I stand and kiss the top of his head. I turn around and smile at my grandmother.
“Just some burns,” she says, sitting up. “Why didn’t you tell me you had a water affinity, silly girl?”
“We haven’t had time to sit down since it happened two days ago. Ragnar was the one who discovered what it was. I was terrified,” I say, cleaning up her face and neck. I check to see if she’s concussed, but everything looks normal. I reach for my bag to set up the oxygen tank because her breathing is irregular.
“Thank you,” she smiles and pats my shoulder when I put the mask around her head.
“I’ll have Dr Polucci come make sure you’re okay,” I nod. I text her and tell her we’re in the library in the south wing.
“None of this is yours, right?” Ragnar motions my clothes. I’m covered in blood from the people downstairs.
“No, but I should head back. There are many injured civilians, and Aimee is attending to the teams alone. Is there anything clse I can help with?” I ask.
“Go,” Ivar nods. The three of them get serious.
“Emilio, escort her back and stay with her,” Ragnar orders. “If my father is back, send him up.”
“My King,” he bows.

I pause when I hear someone crying. I turn my attention towards the bathroom, only for Ragnar to step in front of me with a blank expression on his face. He motions me to go, and I don’t have it in me to ask. I avert my gaze and have every intention to leave, but I stop and look back at him.
“I told you not let any of them go. I’ve seen this before. More than once. I survived it once. When you get what you need, kill her,” I reach into my bag and hold up a syringe. “Cut her off before you start asking questions. She’s connected to someone. That’s yellow wolf’s bane. It’ll keep her from shifting during the interrogation. Do it right this time. Wolves wouldn’t show you the same mercy, My King.”
I place the syringe in his hand when he doesn’t say anything. I turn around to leave. I make it to the stairs when he grabs my arm and turns me around to look up at him.
“You’re right,” he agrees. “I should have listened.”
“I didn’t say that because I was angry. I said it because I know how this works. I’m never going to-” I freeze when his lips meet mine. I can’t help but kiss him back. I pull away when I see Emilio move behind me.
“Worth it,” he pants. “Thank you for helping my brother, Sophia. And this,” he holds up the syringe. “I won’t make that mistake again. I promise.”
