Since the pressure of not knowing whether I could help this woman is no longer an issue, my mind has time to stray to the decor. This part of the house is very unmaterialistic. Very minimalist. There is a huge black squared dinning table in the center of the room. Three almost office–chic armchairs sit on either side of the table. There is an area with a bonsai tree. surrounded by white sand. The sand has those satisfying rake lines going with the very symmetrical shape of the bonsai’s
area.
The walls aren’t walls exactly, but black matte panels. There’s another white panel on the ceiling, with LEDs beneath it that make the room’s edges glow. Right in the center of the ceiling panel is a large white glass sphere with a light that can be controlled remotely. That’s it. This looks like something that belongs in some fancy penthouse or loft, not a mansion like
this.
“Do you like it?” I jump at the sound of her voice.
Ragnar tightens his hold on my hand when Anastasia Polucci makes herself known. Her pretty cerulean eyes stare back at me from the doorway. Her head is wrapped in white bandages, and she wears a robe that covers most of her skin. When she comes into the room, it doesn’t look like she’s walking. It looks like she’s gliding over the black and white marbled floor. I can’t even hear her footsteps.
“I’m not a big fan of the modern take in decor,” I admit. “But I have to admit that there’s beauty in it. It creates a bold
statement.”
“And what statement might that be?” she asks, making her way to the side of the table where the bonsai tree is.
“Intimidation,” I answer, making her smile.
“Would it be too much to ask you for some alone time with your mate?” she asks Ragnar. He looks down at me, waiting for my answer. When I nod, he clears his throat and lets out a heavy sigh.
“No, it wouldn’t be,” he says and kisses the top of my head.
“Aren’t you worried I might hurt her, given our past?” she taunts him.
“Not with this one,” he says confidently. “She’s small, but you wouldn’t be able to put a scratch on her even at your strongest.”
He gives my hand one last squeeze before excusing himself. She didn’t like what he said. That much I can tell. She looks down at the bare table for a moment as if she were thinking about why she had said what she did.
“Come sit with me, Sophia,” she says after a while.
I can feel her eyes as I move closer. She pulls the chair out from beside her, telling me she wants me close. I don’t feel like I’m in danger, but I’ve read that female Lycans can be worse predators than their counterparts. Their mood can shift from one second to the next. When I take a seat, I can see how much better her hands are doing, and it brings a smile to my face.
“Has the pain gone down significantly?” I ask, looking up at her.” brought some water with me if you want me to try again.”
“You’re not afraid of me?” she asks, staring back as if she were desperately trying to find any sign of fear in me.
“I don’t make it a habit to fear people I want to help. That’s all I want to do.”
“But that’s not what you came here for originally, right?”
“No,” I admit. “That’s not why I came. I didn’t even know you existed until it was brought up two days ago.”
“I hear you found some of my missing weapons,” she changes the subject. “Tell me how you came across this information.”
“I didn’t know they belonged to you, exactly. They just turned out to be when we stole them,” I clear my throat.

“The new standing Alpha was my fated mate,” I place my hand on the table, needing the small area around me to expand a bit. I think she sees it and adjusts her body to give me more room.
“He rejected you?”
“Not exactly, no,” I shake my head. “He tried to make me his mistress.”
“Excuse me?” she laughs. “What does that mean? You’re his fated.
“Right, but werewolf omegas, they’re not like Lycans. We don’t possess a body strong enough to house a wolf spirit. Wolves prefer mates who can give birth to a strong heir. Omegas weaken pups, so we’re treated differently.”
“He had a stronger mate already in line?”
“Yeah, and he married her in front of the entire pack. He tried to keep me in the City, but my grandmother sent Prince Ivar to help me get out of there. A beta prince had to force Alpha Romano to reject me before I left.”
“So it’s revenge?”
“The intent was driven by my rage, but as we moved forward with everything we discovered, a few things that has everyone wanting their heads on a pike. When we took it up with the Alpha King, he pardoned them and made it abundantly clear that he had no intention of helping us.”
“I see, and what was it you discovered?”
“That the Romanos are the reason why my parents and brothers are dead. The reason why the Queen and princess are dead.”
“Are you talking about the stadium massacre?” she asks skeptically.
“Yes,” I nod.
“There is a plan, yes? This is the beginning?”
“Yeah, disarming them.”
“How did you get the information about the warehouses?”
“I’ve known I was Santiago’s mate since we were sixteen. While he was in training overseas, I took on many of his responsibilities. These warehouses were one of the many security measures I saw designed and built all over the city.”
“There are more?” she smiles.
“Yes, a few more. But this was their biggest defense supply. Even if they were to change or switch up the other defenses-”

They wouldn’t be able to replenish their supplies in time if they were to attack within the next week,” she finishes. “That is what you want. You want me to send in my sicarios to help your King break those boundaries. Tell me what you want as an outcome from this, Sophia.”
“I want them gone. I want the Romanos to stop existing the same way my parents stopped existing when they died for their
mistakes.
“And his Luna? You want to end her yourself?”
“No,” I shake my head. “The people will take care of her. It’s owed to them. I just want to watch them rip her apart as everything she stole from me burns behind her.”
“Ragnar is going to have his hands full with you, little wolf,” she smiles and pinches my cheek. “All right,” she shrugs and takes a deep breath. “Call me sentimental if you will, but a man hurting a pretty girl like you just rubs me the wrong way. We have to stick together, Queen to Queen. I scratch your back, you scratch mine.”
“I imagine you’re starting to get very itchy,” I smile and reach into my pocket for the jar of pomade I got for her. “I can do a round of water to make sure I didn’t miss anything, but this is going to be your best friend. It’s an aloe vera–based product and will help a lot with the itching.”
