Chapter 12

Francesca blinked in surprise and then scoffed, “You’d better mean it.”

She thought, “That clingy little parasite actually asked for a divorce? What a joke.

“If that really happened, I’d go dance topless on Brickell Street for a whole night.”

Without another word, she turned and climbed into her car.

Concetta turned back to Sergio, forcing a faint smile.”Mr. Sanford, I’m so sorry you had to see that.”

“There must be some misunderstanding, Ms. McFarland. No need to apologize,” Sergio replied, warm and thoughtful.

He didn’t press further. After making sure her car had arrived, he drove off into the night.

The moment Concetta stepped into the car, her head started throbbing.

The cold and rain had obviously made her flu even worse. Her whole body ached with chills, her face pale.

“Ma’am, are you alright? Should I take you to the hospital?” the driver asked, alarmed.

He stepped harder on the gas.

But Concetta didn’t answer. She was staring blankly at her phone.

Somehow, her daughter had unblocked her on Instagram and even posted a photo.

In the picture, Sharon had both Hyman and Lynne in her arms, smiling radiantly. Alejandro stood behind them, gazing at Sharon with unmistakable tenderness.

What was impossible to ignore were the matching bear-themed pajamas they were all wearing.

It was the only set of pajamas she had designed herself after leaving the design industry.

She had fussed over every detail, reworking every stitch dozens of times.

But when she’d eagerly shown them to the kids, their reactions had crushed her.

Lynne had scrunched her nose and snapped, “Mom, these are so childish. I’m not wearing them!”

Even Hyman, usually so sweet, had thrown a fit.”They’re ugly, Mommy! I don’t want them!”

Concetta had tried to coax them into giving the pajamas a chance, but Lynne had burst into tears.

When Alejandro came home that night, Lynne ran to him, sobbing and complaining.

He glanced at the pajamas on the rack coldly and asked, “Concetta, how old are you, seriously?”

And now, they were all wearing those very same pajamas-the ones they once hated and refused to put on-with another woman.
