Chapter 27 Refusal
Just as Florence was about to reveal her identity, she spotted at familiar tall figure.
It was Charles.
Without hesitation, Charles stepped in, stopping one of the men who was about to grab Florence. He kicked the man aside and stood his ground.
“Who the hell are you? Mind your own damn business.”
Jack slurred with a snarl, not initially recognizing Charles through his drunken haze when he caught sight of Charles suddenly emerging from the shadows.
“You pick on my friend, and I’ll definitely get involved.”
Charles stood in front of Florence, and his handsome face was set in a cold, unyielding expression. His presence alone sent a wave of pressure through the corridor, making it clear that no one should come any closer.
Florence stared at his back, momentarily stunned.
She never expected to run into Charles here, of all places.
And yet, his strong stance made her feel safe.

Jack’s face darkened with rage as he barked out his command, “Teach him a lesson he won’t forget.”
But before his orders could be followed, one of his companions. recognized Charles.
“Mr. Short, that’s Mr. Foster from Apex Group.”
Jack snapped, “I couldn’t care less if he’s Mr. Foster or the President himself. If he dares to cross me, he’ll wish he hadn’t!”
With his mind clouded by drink, Jack missed much of the conversation around him, yet he continued to bellow with an air of defiance.
The sober crowd around him exchanged uneasy glances. Eventually, one stepped forward, approaching Charles with a conciliatory tone, “Mr. Foster, I’m truly sorry. Mr. Short has been too drunk to know the stunning lady there is with you. I’m here to apologize on his behalf. Please, let this go. We didn’t mean any disrespect.”
Charles‘ eyes were clear and unflinching as he declared, “He is drunk? Does that give him the right to touch the dashter of Brooks Group?”
“What?”
The man froze, clearly realizing the severity of the situation.

Florence stepped out from behind Charles. “I don’t give a damn if he was drunk or sober,” she declared with a frosty gaze. “He harassed me, and that’s the reality here. Are you all ready to shoulder the blame for his actions?”
The man’s face paled as the reality of the situation sank in. Jack had messed with the wrong person today.
Charles called over his bodyguards and instructed them to take Jack and his friends to the police station. They were all accomplices, after all.
If Charles hadn’t shown up when he did, they would have happily helped Jack intimidate Florence.
“Florence, are you okay? Who does this guy think he is? His father is just a nouveau riche. Does he really believe he can do whatever he wants?”
Upon learning of the incident, Chloe exclaimed with a mix of concern and fury.
Florence reassured her, “Don’t worry, Chloe. They’ve been taken to the police station. We owe it to Mr. Foster for stepping in when he did.”
If Charles hadn’t arrived when he did, things might..ave escalated before Florence could handle it. Though she knew she wouldn’t have been bullied indefinitely, she would have had to deal with unnecessary trouble.

Charles chuckled softly, “Ms. Brooks, if you truly see me as a friend, there’s no need for all this gratitude.”
Florence, feeling indebted, wanted to invite Charles for dinner as a way to repay his kindness. But Charles explained that he was already attending a formal dinner event that night and had wasted enough time on Jack’s drama. Understanding his obligations, Florence didn’t push the matter further.
Back in the private room, Chloe eyed Florence with that familiar, mischievous glint. “Florence, you know my intuition is never wrong.”
Florence smiled slightly, “And what exactly are you now?”

Chloe leaned in, lowering her voice as if sharing a secret. “I think Charles might have a thing for you. To be honest, he’s a way better option than Albert. Have you thought about giving him a chance?”
Florence stared at Chloe in shock, caught off guard by her bold assumption. “Sorry to burst your bubble, but Charles helped me because we’re business partners now. If some ing were to happen to me, he stands to lose billions of dollars. It’s not personal.”

But even after learning the truth, Chloe wasn’t ready to give up on her matchmaking idea. “Well, Charles doesn’t have a girlfriend right now. You could at least consider him in the future.”
Florence shook her head firmly. “He’s not an ordinary man. He has very high standards for his partner. Besides, my focus right now is on running my family’s company. After I divorce Albert, I won’t be considering any emotional entanglements for a long time.”
