Chapter 5

Ford’s POV

“Tonight was perfect,” Kyra purred, snuggled against me and tracing circles on my chest.

“Shelly’s slap made my face swell, but seeing you stand up for me like that made it all worth it.”

I stroked her long hair. “She’s just overwhelmed by grief. She’ll accept reality eventually.”

“Do you think she’ll ever accept us?” Kyra looked up at me.

“She has no choice,” I kissed her lips softly. “I’m the Alpha of this pack. What I say, goes.”

Kyra smiled, satisfied. “And our baby-”

“Will be the most beloved heir,” I promised.

BANG!

My Beta burst in without knocking, his face ashen.

“Alpha!” he said, his voice trembling. “Something’s happened!”

I shot up. “What is it?”

“The Luna’s plane-” the Beta choked on his words, “it went down.”

The temperature in the room dropped to freezing.

“What?” My voice sounded like it was dragged up from hell.

“Ten minutes ago, Luna Shelly’s private jet lost contact over the sea,” the Beta reported, his words coming in a rush. “Radar showed a sudden descent, and then the signal vanished.”

I leaped out of bed and grabbed his collar. “And the search party?” I demanded, my voice raw.

“They’re on their way, but-” the Beta swallowed hard, “the water in that area is over three thousand meters deep, and there’s a storm moving in.”

Kyra’s eyes went wide. “That’s impossible, how could she-“”

“Shut up!” I roared. To the Beta, I commanded, “Get the helicopter ready. I’m going to the site myself.”

The search and rescue operation lasted for three days and nights.

I stood on the deck of the rescue ship, my eyes as red as a wild animal’s.

I was unshaven, still wearing the same clothes from three days ago.

“Alpha.” The search team leader approached me, his face grim. “We’ve found some wreckage from the plane, and-”

He handed me a waterproof bag. Inside was Shelly’s scarf. The one I’d given her for her birthday. It was stained with blood.

“Alpha, my condolences,” the captain said in a low voice. “With that kind of impact and the temperature of the water, the chances of survival are-”

“KEEP SEARCHING!” I screamed. “You don’t stop until you find her body!”

“Alpha, it’s been three days. Even for a werewolf, in these conditions-”

“SHE’S NOT DEAD!” I shook my head, my mind fracturing. “She’s my Luna! She wouldn’t leave me!”

1/2

Just then, a blinding, soul-shattering agony tore through me.

It wasn’t pain. It was a void.

An absolute nothing where the other half of my soul used to be.

The bond hadn’t just snapped.

It had been obliterated.

“No-“I clutched my chest as a mouthful of blood sprayed from my lips.

“Alpha!” Everyone rushed toward me.

But I couldn’t hear them.

The gaping hole in my chest swallowed me whole, a pain more agonizing than a thousand silver bullets.

Shelly was really dead.

My Luna, my mate, was gone forever.

But… I was going to fix it.

I was going to go back to her as soon as Kyra’s baby was born…

Why!

“Shelly-“I struggled to my feet and staggered toward the ship’s rail.

“Alpha, what are you doing?”

I stared into the churning darkness below, the waves calling to me. “Shelly,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “My mate… I’m coming for you.”
