Chapter 28 Get Out of the Way
Bellavista Couture Plaza was Northgale’s most upscale luxury shopping mall.
Celina walked in with Vivienne.
As soon as they stepped onto the first floor, Celina spotted a new flavor at the gelato shop.
“Too bad I’m on my period. I’d really love to try that new one,” She sighed.
It reminded Vivienne that Celina’s mother-in-law had been pressuring her to get pregnant.
She then asked, “Are you guys planning to have kids?”
Celina shook her head. “I will not have Jonathan’s kid.”
Vivienne didn’t see that coming.
But since Celina didn’t elaborate, Vivienne chose not to ask more.
They moved on to a boutique.
Celina was helping Vivienne pick between different colors.
Just then, a group of wealthy socialites entered the store.
The sales assistants immediately left Celina and Vivienne behind after a quick sorry and turned to greet them.
Vivienne didn’t mind and kept browsing until she heard a voice behind her.
‘Well, if it isn’t Mrs. Hartwell? Eliza, your ex-sister-in-law’s here!”
Vivienne couldn’t help rolling her eyes.
The last thing she wanted was to run into that Eliza.
Celina whispered, “Vivi, let’s just go to another store.”
Vivienne wasn’t one to back down from confrontation, but she had an important interview coming up and didn’t want any
drama to ruin her luck.
She nodded and was just about to leave with Celina when one of the socialites stuck out an arm to block them.
Vivienne glanced down and saw a Corelynx Technologies SuperWatch on the woman’s wrist.
She turned around and only to find that they were the same ladies Eliza had been sucking up to at the Seraphic Radiance private dinner party.
And each of them wore one of those SuperWatches.
These cutting-edge smart watches could project holograms, replace phones, and link up with everything imaginable.
Vivienne and her team developed them with Sebastian. So far, only 100 had been manufactured.
Yet, over one million watches had already been pre-ordered.
The marketing was pure royalty-core. Wearing it made you feel untouchable.
Back then, Vivienne had wanted to get one for Celina. But Sebastian told her even high-ranking officials were still on the waitlist.
And somehow, Eliza could just hand out several as party favors.
It bothered Vivienne very much.
Eliza was wearing a Seraphic Radiance custom-tailored waist dress. The fabric shimmered under the boutique lights.
“Vivienne, long time no see. I missed you.”
Vivienne had no interest in Eliza’s fake sweetness. She grabbed Celina’s hand and started walking around her.
But then Alissa Hoover, the woman who blocked her earlier, spoke up.
“Eliza is being kind to you. Who are you to ignore her?”
Another socialite chimed in, “Do you really think Sebastian would still protect you? You are just a total loser.”
“Your clothes must be hand-me-downs. I can’t believe you are one of those beggars now.”
They started pointing and laughing.
The SuperWatches on their wrists sensed their excited energy and projected a laugh-out-loud emoji.
Vivienne tried to keep herself calm as she didn’t look for any trouble..
Celina always knew that Vivienne was the kind of girl who fought back right away.
She felt deeply sorry when she saw that Vivienne remained silent.
Vivienne continued to pull her towards the door to leave.
Alissa called out mockingly, “That’s right. The loser better run away!”
Vivienne didn’t say anything, but Celina had had enough.
Usually soft-spoken, her face flushed bright red. Even her chest was rising and falling sharply.
34.39
“Mrs. Farley, Vivi hasn’t done anything to you. You’re crossing the line.”
Alissa narrowed her eyes at Celina.
Vivienne immediately stepped in front of Celina.
Alissa sneered, “Aren’t you girls sweet. Well, Eliza and I are just close like you two. She’s got such a pure heart, and I just couldn’t bear to see her bullied.”
Eliza looked touched, her eyes shimmering with tears. That look made Alissa feel even more sympathetic.
“You… you’re absolutely ridiculous!” Celina was clearly not good at arguments.
Vivienne stepped forward.
She circled Alissa slowly, scarthing her from head to toe with a calm face.
“Mrs. Farley, you do look every bit the grand dame with the Seraphic Radiance couture and luxurious accessories. It probably cost more than my annual salary to buy just one of them. It’s no surprise that you’d look down on me.”
“At least you know your place.” Alissa didn’t stop mocking her.
“But here’s what I do know. You’re the director of a television station, right? Your base salary should be just over a thousand. And your husband works at the command office. My question is, can your combined wages really support your high-end lifestyle? I’m genuinely curious. Where’s the money coming from?”
Alissa went pale. Her arrogance deflated in an instant.
Vivienne’s sharp gaze swept to the other women.
“And as for you, no offense, but I couldn’t remember anyone of you. Why don’t you introduce yourselves? I’d love to pay my respects properly.”
Everyone in the circle, business or politics, had skeletons in their closets. That much was understood.
None of them dared challenge Vivienne anymore.
Eliza’s plan to humiliate Vivienne had completely backfired. Her expression turned awkward as well.
Celina looked at Vivienne like she was seeing a goddess.
Just one clever counterstrike had made the entire crowd shut up. She was absolutely badass.
Vivienne and Celina finally walked out. Eliza followed right after them.
“Aren’t you feeling good about it?
“But if I were you, I wouldn’t have done that. I did invite those ladies here to teach you a lesson. And now, thanks to your monologue, they’ve gone from being angry on my behalf to hating your guts.”
little
Eliza smiled gently.
“They’ve got money and power. I’m afraid things are only going to get harder for you. My advice? Leave Northgale. There’s a whole wide world out there. Why do you have to cling to this place?”
“You done talking? Then get out of the way.”
Vivienne raised her right hand.
Eliza instinctively shielded her face with both hands.
“Coward,” Vivienne scoffed and brushed past her.
Vivienne knew those ladies would be tough to deal with.
But what was done was done. If trouble came find her, she’d deal with it.
Besides, Sebastian had already ruined her chance to leave Northgale.
Now, she finally had a new job opportunity.
“Let’s see who will win,” Vivienne said to herself.
