Chapter 8 A Jealous Shrew
Vivienne remained extremely calm out of utter disappointment, which was a stark contrast to Sebastian’s hysterics, making him feel completely powerless.
Having nowhere to vent his anger, he stormed out and asked Jonathan Whitford out for a drink.
Jonathan, his childhood friend and Celina’s husband, was a well-known lawyer in Northgale as well as the legal advisor of Corelynx Technologies.
He had never lost a case.
When he heard that Vivienne had proposed a divorce, he let out a derisive laugh.
“What did I tell you? Don’t spoil her. It’ll only make her bolder. Everyone knows Eli is like a sister to you. And she’s acting like it’s a big deal.”
Leaning against the bar counter, Jonathan lit up a cigarette lazily, exuding a roguish charm.
“Hey, what’s that bitter face? You’re acting like she’s the only woman in this world. You’ve been with her for what, six years now? I say it’s time to get rid of her.”
Sebastian gulped down the wine in one go and said gloomily, “What makes her think she can propose a divorce just like that? She’s got no respect for me at all.”
“I take it that you don’t want a divorce. No worries.”
Hearing this, Sebastian looked at Jonathan, waiting for him to continue.
Jonathan exhaled a smoke ring, smiling wickedly..
“As long as you refuse to get a divorce, the only thing she can do is sue. If so, you can challenge jurisdiction to avoid showing up in court or request delays to drag the divorce out forever.”
Sebastian stared at the wine, lost in thought.
Jonathan nudged him. “Sebastian, honestly, I’m a bit curious. Who’s more important to you? Eli or Vivienne?”
After a long silence, Sebastian said, “The bottom line is, I won’t let Eli down again. Vivienne must yield.”
Vivienne was beat. She locked the bedroom door and managed a few hours of fitful sleep.
After she woke up, her thoughts on the divorce were now clearer.
She realized that according to the
She quickly went out to a law firm, asking about the quickest way to get a divorce.
A lawyer told her, “Chances are, you might not get a divorce the first time you file for one.
“I suggest you separate immediately after the ruling and gather evidence. A year later, you may file again for a divorce.”
She paid the consultation fee and then walked out of the law firm.
With her slender, pale fingers, she held a cigarette and took a shallow drag, holding the smoke for a long time before exhaling.
Just then, Kimberly called her.
“Bad, bad news, Ms. Lancaster…”
She thought, “Bad news? How bad could it be?”
Soon, she saw the viral video Kimberly forwarded to her.
Before she clicked on it, the bold headline had already caught her eye. “Men who dote on women always end up as jokes.”
“What a vicious headline, pitting genders against each other,” she thought.
Then she clicked play.
The background music ached with unrequited love as Sebastian’s crazy roar had been altered into pitiful sobs.
“Over the past six years, I’ve always pampered you and never let anything or anyone upset you. You forced me to get rid of Eli, who had no one to rely on. She had no choice but to come back, and then you slapped her twice… My mom ended up in the ICU because of you. Why are you doing this to me, Vivienne?”
When it was her turn to speak, the music suddenly went wild, and she shouted like a fishwife.
“I’m condescending. So what? Serves you right to come crawling back to me. Eliza deserved it. And even if Lillian dies, she asked for it. The same goes for you, Sebastian. You totally deserve it-all of you!”
Within two hours, the video was shared over a hundred thousand times, topping the trending topic list.
Men cursed her to die.
Women were ashamed of her.
A netizen doxxed who they were and commented: “That’s Mr. Hartwell, the CEO of Corelynx Technologies, and his wife in the video. I met them at a dinner party once.”
Another netizen: “What were they like? Were they the same as in the video?”
The first netizen: “Mr. Hartwell was a bit aloof, but he was polite and considerate, especially toward her. But she was condescending and so rude.”
The most-liked comment was, “Damn her! Mr. Hartwell deserves someone better!”
Vivienne’s expression changed, her face flaming red.
Kimberly texted, “Ms. Lancaster, shall I ask the PR team to make the trending topic go away?”
“Let me think about it,” Vivienne replied.
She forced herself to calm down.
Then she pondered, “The video comes from surveillance footage. In other words, someone has planted a camera in the study.
“It’s either Eliza or Sebastian.
‘Since he acted all crazy last night, I doubt it’s him.
“Then… It’s Eliza.”
she immediately called the police, reporting that someone had illegally installed a camera in her home.
After hanging up, she felt so sick at the thought of Eliza and Sebastian’s twisted relationship.
Despite what the lawyer said, she couldn’t wait for a year.
Pondering for a while, she texted, “Forget it. Don’t do anything.”
Jtterly dumbfounded, Kimberly replied, “Are you sure? You’ve seen the comments, right?”
she texted back, “Sometimes you gotta lose to win.”
she thought, “The video makes me a jealous shrew. Given the bad influence, Corelynx Technologies’ sales and stock price will De affected.
Richard’s the chairman. Of course, he’s gonna do something about it.
He’s nothing but selfish, and he’ll make me take all the blame and force Sebastian to sign the divorce papers for sure.
‘I have no connections, so the only way out for me is to challenge reality with sheer luck.
‘This is the quickest way that I can think of to get a divorce.”
in St. Avalon Hospital.
Frederick lowered his head, staring at “Her”.
“It’s been sixteen hours already. Didn’t Vivienne say she’d thank me properly? Why hasn’t she texted me yet?” he thought.
Just then, Daniel rushed in without knocking on the door and handed his phone to Frederick.
“Fred, check out the woman in the video. Is she the one you keep hidden in your notes?”
