Chapter 8 Scared
Chapter 8 Scared
The moment the words left her mouth. Jericho’s slap landed without hesitation.
“I’ve been way too nice to you, huh?! Selly, what the hell’s your problem?!”
I held my cheek, shooting him a look full of loathing.
He grabbed my wrist and dragged me away.
“Come with me!”

“No!”
I fought back with all my strength.
He looked over his shoulder, eyes burning with anger and disbelief.
What the hell are you—”
“Let me go! Get away from me!”
I hit his hands, my tears falling nonstop.
I couldn’t stand his touch. Every place he touched felt like it was stinging, covered in red rashes.
He always had to be the one in control.
If he said it was a test, then it was a test. If he said I had to go back with him, I had to follow.
He never thought about my feelings, never realized my heart was already in pieces.
“Selly!”
At that moment, a clear voice broke in between us.
Jericho frowned as he looked at the person approaching.
Taking advantage of his moment of shock, I yanked myself free and threw myself into the arms of the person who’d just arrived.
“Samuel!”
The relief of seeing Samuel was immense, like finding solid ground after a long fall.
Even my body stopped shaking so badly.
Samuel held me tight, looking me up and down in a panic.
“Are you all right? Are you hurt anywhere?!”
I gripped his clothes, shaking my head miserably.
Before I could even open my mouth, tears began to fall endlessly.
“Does it hurt somewhere, huh?
Jericho forcefully shoved Samuel, demanding angrily. “Who are you?”
Samuel glared back at him fearlessly. “I’m her boyfriend.”
Jericho frowned, staring at me, then at Samuel in disbelief.
“Are you kidding me? Where did you come from? Don’t you know Selly is my girlfriend? Are you, the homewrecker, seriously trying to act entitled now?”

Samuel, unhurriedly but chillingly, said. “After you did those despicable things, Selly is no longer your girlfriend. Stop. forcing her.”
Jericho laughed. like it was the most ridiculous thing he’d ever heard.
“Ask her if she agrees! She’s crazy about me. She can’t live without me. Don’t play the hero, pretty boy. Selly, come here!”
Seeing me stand still, Jericho’s tone turned sharper. “Selly, I said, come here!”
I quietly moved to stand behind Samuel, not giving Jericho another look.
Jericho’s face finally darkened.
He lunged to grab me, but Samuel immediately stepped in front of me.
“Selly, get over here right now!”
I nervously clutched Samuel’s clothes and shook my head.
Samuel said, “See? She doesn’t want to go with you. Mr. Simpson, I advise you to act like a gentleman and stop forcing her.”
Jericho’s composure slowly crumbled, his jaw tight, fury boiling over.
“What do you know, pretty boy? Selly does anything for me! Your sudden appearance is useless. Let me tell you, to save me, she acted like a dog-”
Samuel’s punch cut him off mid–sentence.
“Show some respect when you talk!”
Caught off guard, Jericho was knocked to the ground in an instant.
He moved to retaliate, but Talia rushed to hold him back.
“Jericho, stop! Everyone’s watching. If the reporters come, our acquisition deal isn’t-”
“Talia, get your hands off me!”
“Jericho! There will be time for this later. Let’s go!”
Talia held onto his waist tightly, and only then did Jericho finally calm down.
He looked around, noticing the growing crowd of people leaving work.
He glared at me. “Selly, don’t come begging to get back together later!”
They walked away, but my body wouldn’t stop trembling.
“Selly, you’re safe now. It’s okay.”
Samuel anxiously rubbed my arm, and when I suddenly looked up, I realized I was already sitting on the sofa in my room.
The scene from earlier and Jericho’s threats kept replaying in my head..
Remembering the way he looked at Samuel made me shiver.
“I’m sorry! This is all my fault for involving you!”
I knew how pathetic I looked–just sitting there, crying nonstop like a fool.
Samuel gently wiped away my tears.
“Don’t be afraid. I’ll stay by your side. I’m not afraid of being burdened. I’m only afraid you won’t ask for my help.”
“Samuel, what if he comes after me again? I’m so scared!”

“I’m not leaving your side, not for a second. I won’t let him lay a finger on you again. Selly, don’t be afraid. I’ve got you.”
I rested my head against his chest.
His heartbeat was strong and steady.
Thump… Thump…
It was like my own heart was finding peace again.
His shoulders were broad and warm.
“Selly, I’ll keep you safe.”
I gave a small nod.
I had calmed down, but I couldn’t let go of the small bit of tenderness he gave me.
Even if it was only a dream, even if I’d end up hurt …
Just this one moment, just this one second.
Let me love again.
I only wanted this one second.
I rested in his arms and slowly fell asleep.
In my dream, I was back in high school again.
That handsome boy stubbornly held his head high, never backing down no matter how badly he got beaten.
“Samuel …” I murmured softly.
“You’re calling that bastard again!”
The angry voice jolted me awake.
“Jericho!”
