All it took was her mother accidentally brushing against the custommade gown of the city’s

richest heiressfor Sloane West’s mother to be dragged away, limbs broken, and thrown into the

sea

When she finally pressed charges against that arrogant debutante, the court ruled the girl not guilty

Because the defense attorney standing by her side was none other than the founder of the city of Riverstone’s most prestigious law firmSloane’s husband, Declan Hawthorne

As the trial ended, the poised, aristocratic man with cold eyes walked away from the defendant’s seat and placed an apology letter on the table in front of her

Sloane, just sign it. You wouldn’t want to get sued for slander and end up in jail, would you?”

His tone was gentle and coaxing, but behind the goldrimmed glasses, his eyes were sharp as

blade

Sloane stared at him, defiant tears brimming in her eyes, her voice trembling. Why, Declan?”

She couldn’t understand

—

She was his wife. He had loved her so fiercely that he gave up his inheritance and endured being locked away by the Hawthornesjust to marry his former caregiver

But after her mother’s death, she had begged him countless times, crying. Even this morning, she had knelt at his feet once again, threatening divorce if he refused to drop the case

And what had he said

Don’t push me, Sloane.”

Declan loosened his tie, visibly frustrated. Vivienne’s different. She chased me for ten years. She

once saved my life.”

I owe her. I have to protect hereven if that means going against you, my wife, the woman I love

most.”

He tapped his tablet, bringing up a live stream and turning the screen toward Sloane

You have two minutes. If not for yourself, do it for your mother. Sign the apology, and I’ll give her

ashes back to you.”

On the screen: a yacht out at sea. Several bodyguards were holding a mahogany urn over the railing

ready to let go at any moment

Tears spilled from Sloane’s eyes. What are you doing?”

He didn’t even flinch. Be good. Don’t waste time. Are you really going to leave your mother to drift

in the ocean forever?”

Declan!Sloane’s voice was hoarse with rage, her eyes burning. I want a divorce!”

But in this brutal standoff, he stayed cold. Unmoved

Sloane, you’ve got thirty seconds left.”

At that moment, her heart clenched like it had been stabbed

How ironic. This was the man who once loved her like life itself

Eight years ago, he’d fallen for her at first sight at the Hawthorne estate

She was working as his grandfather’s caregiver. Their worlds couldn’t have been further apart— but he confessed to her over and overagain. A hundred times, at least

He once saw her glance at a patch of bellflowers, and that same night had all the roses in the garden

replaced

When she twisted her ankle, he booked out an entire hospital floor just for her

That was also when she learned about the girl chasing himVivienne Blake, childhood friend and

heiress of one of the wealthiest families in Riverstone. She’d pursued him for years, to the point of

obsession

But Declan never once looked her way

Sloane, I love only you. So what if Vivienne and I are a perfect social match? I can’t stand her.”

The Hawthorne family tried to force him to give up. They stripped his shares and exiled him to

private island overseas

He went on a hunger strike for twenty straight days to get the outside world to relentand it

worked. He moved Sloane’s heart

They got married. And for a time, he truly loved her like he promised

Everything changed six months ago when Vivienne suddenly returned from abroadand this time

Declan’s attitude toward her shifted drastically

He canceled international meetings just to pick her up at the airport. For her welcomehome party

he stayed out for three straight nights

When Sloane confronted him, he told her the truth. A year ago in London, I was in a car crash. Vivienne saved meshe was in a coma for a year because of it.”

Sloane, I love you. But she just woke up. I need to repay her. Just give me a year, okay?”

At first, she believed him

Until the night of the party. She collapsed from a flareup of an old illness and was rushed to the ER

Declan didn’t answer a single call

In desperation, her mother went to the yacht where the party was held. But she never came back

Everyone insisted her mother had taken her own lifethat it was suicide, not murder

Even Declan, who hadn’t been at the scene, believed that

But Sloane remembered the call she got after the surgery. She’d heard chaos, Vivienne yelling-

and her mother’s screams of pain

Her mother didn’t jump. She was forced

In the six months since, she’d been drowning in guilt and grief, crying herself to sleep night after

night. In the depths of her despair, she finally uncovered a single cluefrom a waiter

She pleaded with Declan again and again, begging him to help her

But when the case finally went to court, he didn’t hesitate to stand on the other side

To defend the woman who killed her mother, Declan threatened Sloane with her own mother’s ashes, just to force her to bow her head and apologize

At that moment, as Sloane looked at Declan, he felt so foreignlike a demon risen straight from

hell

She was done. Broken. Her fingers shook as she scrawled her name on the apology letter

There. Satisfied? Now bring them back from the boat”

But her hoarse voice had barely faded when a cry rang out behind her

Vivienne suddenly collapsed at the defendant’s table, clutching her head. Declan! Help memy head hurts!”

In an instant, Declan dropped the tablet in a flurry and bolted toward her

On the stream, the countdown ended. Without Declan’s orders to stop, the bodyguards opened the

urn…

No! I signed it! Declan, tell them to stop!”

Sloane screamed, hysterical. But no one listened

She lunged forward, trying to stop Declanbut he had eyes only for Vivienne. Holding her in his arms, he rushed out, elbow slamming hard into Sloane without even looking back

She fell to the ground. Her head hit the corner of the table. Tears rained onto the stillplaying tablet

Too late. It was already too late

On screen, the ashes was poured from the boatcaught by the icy sea wind, they scattered bit by bit, vanishing into the churning grey waves

A gutwrenching guilt tore at her heart

Her mother had always feared the cold. She’d hated the ocean most of all. And now, she’d died in it –and would remain trapped in it forever.”

I’m so sorry, MomSloane’s sobs shattered

Suddenly, she was filled with regret. Regret for ever loving Declan. Regret for ever marrying him

Endless guilt tolled through her like a funeral bell and her vision dimmed

As the world went dark, she heard one last thingDeclan’s panicked voice outside the courtroom

Vivienne, hang in there. I’ll do anything you wantjust stay alive!”

📖 Chapter 1 Summary – “The Breakup Plan”

(From the story of Quinn, Liam, and Alex Morgan)

Part 1 – The Return of Alex Morgan

When Alex Morgan returned from studying abroad, everything about her was different.
She had gone away a cheerful young woman — but came back declaring herself “psychologically male.”
She threw out her bras, started using men’s products, and even began sleeping in Liam Reed’s bed as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
What shocked everyone was her casual closeness with Liam — the man who happened to be Quinn Moon’s longtime boyfriend.

Part 2 – Lines Crossed

At first, Quinn tried to stay calm.
She told herself Alex’s behavior was strange but harmless.
But when Alex began borrowing Liam’s razor, joking that they could “grow brother hair together,” and insisting on using men’s restrooms whenever they went out, Quinn’s patience snapped.
It was obvious this had gone too far.
What had once seemed like an awkward friendship now looked like blatant disrespect — for her, for their relationship, and for every boundary that should have existed.

Part 3 – The Confrontation

Unable to take it anymore, Quinn confronted Alex directly.
“What exactly are you trying to do?” she demanded.
Alex just rolled her eyes, completely unfazed.

“Please, girl,” she said mockingly. “I may be biologically female, but I’m psychologically male. Don’t make our brotherhood sound dirty. You’re just one of those insecure women who loves to compete.”
The words stung.
Watching Alex walk confidently into the men’s restroom again, Quinn’s anger boiled over.
Enough was enough — it was time to remind everyone who she really was.

Part 4 – The Call to the Underworld

Quinn stepped outside, took a deep breath, and made a single call — to her father, Richard Moon, a powerful underground boss trying to live a clean life.

“Dad, I need you to send over a dozen of the guys,” she said calmly.
Her father’s worried tone immediately filled the line.
“Sweetheart, what’s wrong?”
This was the first time Quinn had ever asked for his help like this, and he knew something serious had happened.
After a short pause, she added softly, “Dad, I’m going to break up with Liam.”
That was enough for Richard Moon.
Assuming Liam had disrespected his daughter, he hung up — already sending his men to “handle” the situation.

Part 5 – The Men’s Room Invasion

Moments later, the rumble of motorcycles and heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor.
A dozen men — loyal to Richard Moon — entered the building.
They didn’t ask questions; they simply nodded at Quinn, waiting for her signal.
Two of Liam’s friends stood smoking by the men’s restroom door.

“Hey, wait! There are people inside!” one of them shouted.
But Quinn had already given the order.
Within seconds, the two friends were grabbed, shoved aside, and chaos erupted inside the restroom.
The plan wasn’t to hurt anyone — only to scare them, to make them realize just how serious Quinn was.

Part 6 – The Livestream and the Truth

One of the men set up a live feed to Quinn’s phone so she could see what was happening inside.
She didn’t want to — but she had to know the truth.
On-screen, Alex and Liam were tangled together, far too close for any explanation.
Alex screamed as the men burst in, accidentally elbowing Liam, who yelped in pain.
The whole scene was ridiculous, but also devastating.
Quinn shut off the phone, disgusted.
Even if nothing had technically “happened,” she knew now that the line between friendship and betrayal had long been crossed.

Part 7 – Three Years of Love

As she stood there in silence, memories came flooding back.
Three years of love, laughter, and trust — all reduced to this moment.
She and Liam had been planning their wedding for next year.
He had been her everything — her calm in the chaos, her dream beyond her dangerous lineage.
But now, that dream had burned to ashes.
Worse, Quinn knew she had never told Liam the truth about her background — that she was the daughter of one of the most feared underground leaders in the city.
She had hidden that part of herself to protect him.
Ironically, that silence had led him straight into someone else’s arms.

Part 8 – The Exit Plan

After the chaos ended, the men she’d grown up around came out of the restroom, nodding at her with quiet respect.
No one said a word; they didn’t need to.
They had done their job — sent the message.
As the group left, Quinn stood alone by the door, her hands trembling but her resolve solid.
She wasn’t going to cry.
She wasn’t going to beg.
This was the end of the line, and she would face it head-on.
She waited outside for Liam and Alex, determined to break up in person — once and for all.

Part 9 – Shameless

Half an hour passed before Liam and Alex finally emerged.
To Quinn’s disbelief, they didn’t look scared or embarrassed.
In fact, they looked closer than ever — walking arm in arm, whispering and laughing as if they had just left a romantic dinner instead of a near-brawl.
The sight made Quinn’s stomach turn.
These two really had no shame left.
They had turned her patience into a joke.
But what came next was even worse.

Part 10 – The Final Straw

When Liam saw her standing there, his expression wasn’t guilt or fear — it was irritation.

“Quinn,” he snapped, “are you really that insecure? You had to wait outside the bathroom door for me?”
The words hit harder than any punch.
After everything — after three years together — this was his reaction.
No apology. No explanation. Just blame.
In that moment, Quinn’s heart hardened completely.
Whatever feelings she’d once had for Liam Reed died right there in that hallway.
She straightened her shoulders, her father’s blood and her own pride running strong in her veins.
If he thought she was just some insecure girlfriend, he was about to learn exactly who Quinn Moon really was.
