Chapter 5
My father spotted me on the auction stage immediately.
He pushed through the crowd toward me, calling Leo over to quietly ask about my background.
His pupils contracted when he heard something, and he slapped Leo directly.
Richard shouted, “You bastard! Is this how I taught you to do things?”
Leo covered his face without speaking, searching around for someone.
I knew he was looking for Alex.
Seeing this, I wasn’t panicked anymore.
I relaxed my body, waiting for my dad to come save me.
Like Liam, my father recognized me as his precious daughter with just one glance.
I used to think Liam would be the man who loved me most in this world besides my father.
Now I realized my dad was way more reliable than any man.
As my father approached me, Alex suddenly appeared from nowhere.
She bent over with a fawning smile, greeting my father. “You must be Mr. Moon, right? Seeing you today, you truly have heroic bearing. I’ve long admired you.”
My father snorted coldly, looking Alex up and down until she was covered in goosebumps before
withdrawing his gaze.
He asked, “She’s the auction item you vouched for?”
Alex nodded eagerly, explaining, “Mr. Moon, I know your rules. This woman is completely

voluntary. Fresh college graduate–easy to go astray, you understand.”
Her winking and gesturing really made me think she was a man.
In front of my father, she was like a lapdog – no one was better at flattery.
Richard’s lips curved into a smile as he repeated, “Voluntary?”
Alex nodded.

Liam stood to the side, opening his mouth but retreating to silently watch Alex.
I knew Liam had chosen Alex again.
Sometimes I wondered if Liam even had a heart.
I thought he’d at least have the ability to distinguish right from wrong, at least understand that Alex’s current behavior was illegal.
Maybe from the moment he easily believed Alex’s transgender nonsense, I should have realized Liam and I were destined to become strangers going different ways.
In Liam’s heart, Alex was a brother he’d known for years.
And I was just a woman who seemed relatively innocent–disposable without regret.
My father waved his hand, and someone immediately restrained Alex.
“I’m one hundred percent certain she’s not voluntary. Do you dare make a bet with me?” Alex shrieked in alarm, looking to Liam for help. “Liam, tell him! Wasn’t she voluntary?”
All eyes fell on Liam.
Even I found myself studying this man once more.
After a long moment, Liam moved his lips and spoke quietly, “She was voluntary. I guarantee it in
the Reed family’s name.”
Richard snorted coldly and had his men restrain Liam as well. “I’d like to ask why my daughter
would voluntarily stand on an auction stage.”
