Chapter 8
After all these years, it was the first time someone said I wasn’t a little fool.
I mustered the courage to look at Raymond.
“You like Ms. Sloane and want to be with her, I understand that.
“I already told mom and dad that I can take care of myself from now on.
“And mom said that dad saved people without expecting anything in return. Remy, you don’t owe me a thing.”
I wasn’t angry at him. But Raymond’s eyes trembled.
“I want to take care of you. It has nothing to do with your dad.”
I shook my head. “But there’s nothing left for me in the Devlin house anymore. I won’t go back.”
Raymond’s tall figure slumped. He stepped back half a step, sadness hidden in his eyes.
“You don’t like other people in our house. I’ve already sent them away.
“You’ve run away before, too, haven’t you? Can I take you home?
“Elea, I’m the only one who can take good care of you.”
I felt like Raymond didn’t quite understand what I was saying.
I frowned. “I can take care of myself now. I don’t need to trouble you.’
“Trouble…” His expression darkened further, murmuring that one word in place.
It seemed even sadder than the day everyone called me a little fool, and I was extremely sad back then.
Sebastian held my hand and led me away. When we got in the car, Raymond chased us from the hall.
“Do you want to eat strawberry cake?” Sebastian asked.
I instinctively turned to him, my eyes shining. “Yes.”
Sebastian lowered the car window with one hand and kissed me again.
I tried to push him away, but he said, “Two strawberry cakes.”
I gave up struggling.
After Sebastian kissed me enough, he raised the window and told the driver to start the car.

My neck hurt a little. But when I got home and ate some strawberry cake, I forgot all about my unhappiness.
Lately, Sebastian kept wanting to bite me,
He’d bite me when he saw cream on the corner of my mouth; when I came out of the shower, drying my hair; when I slept; even when I tried on clothes, he’d barge in.
He loved teasing me just to see me cry. He said I looked beautiful when I cried.
I was so mad, I didn’t speak to him for three days.
Later, Sebastian said he wanted to marry me. For a moment, I thought I misheard him.
I poked my finger. “My mom said I’m supposed to be with Remy. The families agreed that only Ray would marry
me.”
Sebastian asked, “Do you want to go back to the Devlin’s residence?”
I shook my head.
“Then stay at my house. I’ll tell your mom. She’ll definitely agree.”
I looked at him in admiration. “You can see my mom?”
Sebastian’s expression was complicated. “Wouldn’t my mom’s agreement be enough?”
I thought for a moment. Actually, Raymond’s mom didn’t really approve of him marrying me.
His mom didn’t like me much either. She said I wasn’t suitable for Raymond. But his dad and my dad were good friends, so she couldn’t say no.
“Come home with me, okay?” Sebastian coaxed me.
I nervously twisted my fingers.
“My mom will definitely like you.”
I was a little scared. Raymond’s mom didn’t like me. But Sebastian treated me so well. It would be nice to live with the Keaton family forever.
He never said I was a burden.
But I was carefree and forgot about sad things easily.
“Let’s make it clear. If you do three things that make me sad, I’ll live on my own.”
Raymond had done a lot before. I couldn’t even count with two hands.
“Like what?” Sebastian asked.
“Remy’s girlfriend broke the gift my parents made for me.”

I couldn’t understand what girlfriend meant back then.
Sebastian said nothing, but his eyes were red. He held me tightly.
“I won’t. I’ll never do that in my life.”
