Chapter 27 You Should’ve Never Had Any Thoughts About Her
Clara waited in silence as the crocodile drew nearer, then abruptly struck, making the creature thrash violently on the water’s surface. Sighing in relief, she pushed forward for the finish line. The enormous pool was divided by a glass walkway that twisted and turned, eventually returning to the starting point.
Just as she thought she was in the clear, a commotion erupted behind her. Glancing back, Clara saw the crocodile frantically swimming after her again. She had barely caught her breath when it surged forward once more. With only twenty meters left, her exhaustion was mounting.
As the noise behind her grew louder, Clara’s leg cramped up. Just as the crocodile was about to attack, she fell into a familiar embrace. When she resurfaced, she saw a figure with his back to her–a figure she recognized. The crocodile, now agitated, was dispatched with a ruthless dagger to the eye.
Michael?
She was swiftly carried to the finish line, taking advantage of the crocodile’s distraction. Once out of the water and in the safety zone, she looked at the man wearing a mask, but she knew without a doubt that it was Michael.
“Do you have a death wish?” Michael shouted at her, his voice filled with anger and fear. If he hadn’t reached her in time, she might not have survived.
The staff quickly retrieved the dagger, but Clara was still shaken. His harsh words stung, and her already reddened eyes filled with tears.
Michael picked her up and began walking outside, pausing next to Howard to glare at him.
“You should’ve never had any thoughts about her,” he warned.
Howard was taken aback. He had seen Michael angry before, but never like this–not even at their worst moments. It seemed he had crossed a line, and this time, he might have pushed too far.
When they reached the car, Michael placed her in the back seat. Howard appeared again, peering through the window at Clara. “You win this time. I’ll keep my promise.”
It was clear to him now that provoking Michael’s wife was the only way to get a rise out of him. Howard knew everything about Michael and Benjamin, including Michael’s illness. Despite being alone and sick, Michael had built his company into what it was today, a feat Howard begrudgingly admired. But if they ever faced off directly, Howard knew he was no match for Michael. He might resort to dirty tricks, but Michael wouldn’t stoop to that level. Their rivalry had always been intense.

“She won’t accept your promises no matter what they are,” Michael said coldly. “And hand on her. Prepare to face the consequences.”

Eric saw Michael get into the car and quickly followed suit. He started the engine and began driving, ensuring the bag with Clara’s clothes and phone was placed next to her.
Clara felt her strength fading in the silent car, the cold creeping into her bones. Michael was seated beside her, his expression stern, making her too scared to move. As she replayed Howard’s words in her mind, her anger grew. She had risked her life in that bet with Howard, and yet Michael had almost pushed her away without a second thought.
“Do you even know what kind of bet I made with Howard? I nearly lost my life, and you just… pushed me aside!” Clara’s voice trembled with anger.
Bang!
Michael punched the window next to her with a force that made the entire car shake. Clara could feel the tension in the air, knowing that one more hit would shatter the glass.
