Chapter 13
After wrapping up the shoot, Tasha didn’t leave but stayed behind to help tidy up the set.

As she was sweeping the floor, she suddenly heard Angelica’s voice from not far away–it turned out the director was on the phone.
“Where am I supposed to find actresses for you?” Angelica’s tone was slightly impatient but still respectful, suggesting the person on the other end was either higher in status or age.
“Come on. What’s the point of competing with him? Why clash with his shooting schedule? He’s been preparing for ages, and you’ve only had a few days!
“You know I’m shooting a rom–com. Rom–coms and ‘acting prowess, do those words even go together to you?
“Don’t make it hard for me, please,” Angelica pleaded. “You two big shots are battling it out; don’t drag a small fry like me
into it.”
The person on the other end seemed to say something, making Angelica’s expression even more exasperated. She was about to roll her eyes.
Tasha listened for a while, then made herself scarce just as the call seemed about to end. In the entertainment industry, eavesdropping was common, but getting caught was a whole different story.
After finishing the call, Angelica walked into the living room and saw Tasha sweeping.
At the thought of the actress her mentor had just “borrowed,” a spark of inspiration lit up in Angelica’s eyes.
Tasha turned around and greeted Angelica politely, “Hi, Angelica.”
But when she saw Tasha’s average–looking face, Angelica’s face fell again.
She waved listlessly. “Hi.”
Tasha went back to sweeping. During the last scene, everyone had been snacking on nuts and pastries, leaving litter scattered all over the floor. The place was a mess.
Angelica slumped into her seat at the head of the table, her mind swirling with the task her mentor had just entrusted her with, a growing sense of worry gnawing at her.
Leonard is making it so easy, just a flick of the tongue, and he wants ten actresses from me, all acting pros. Hello? Where am I supposed to find them? I’m just working on some rom–com!‘ she complained inwardly.
In the industry, it was a known fact that acting in rom–coms was like a needle in a haystack–not exactly absent, but pretty close.
After all these years, her mentor was still throwing her curveballs.
Angelica recalled her mentor’s words. “It doesn’t matter what they look like! The key is they have to be able to act! I want Manuel to see that actors who can only stare aren’t going anywhere!
“You’ve recently filmed a costume drama or something, right? Perfect, the theme of my project is quite similar to yours. How about you lend me some of your actors?
“Once your drama wraps up, my show will just be starting, so they can jump right in!”

Angelica’s temple was throbbing. Leonard had directed many hit shows and boosted the careers of numerous actors, but over time, he developed some bad habits, like not taking actors seriously, a habit he still hadn’t changed.
‘Does he think actors are like desks that can be moved around at will? I’m not an internationally renowned director, why would he believe the cast would listen to me?‘ she murmured inwardly.
Meanwhile, Tasha slowly swept the floor in front of Angelica and started arranging tables and chairs for tomorrow’s shoot
Angelica was worried for a bit, then got bored and glanced at Tasha again.
After looking closely, she thought Tasha wasn’t too bad–looking. Her features were ordinary but harmonious, unlike those of male actors who were ugly beyond belief.
Though short, she had a slim and proportionate figure. When Stuart talked, he kept his head up because even a slight dip might reveal double chins.
The performance of this minor character left Angelica quite satisfied today. Of course, it wasn’t anything spectacular.
After all, a medicine–selling old man didn’t exactly have much room for stunning moments, but stepping in at the last minute was like a lifesaver. Thus, Angelica had quite a good impression of Tasha.
Her thoughts wandered further. ‘Leonard is shooting a costume drama; being short isn’t an issue–just wear platform shoes to look taller.
Although this girl’s face is ordinary, and she can’t play any major female roles, she can definitely handle a maid or an old servant. If necessary, apply more powder to cover her flaws!
‘Most importantly, this girl definitely meets Leonard’s “good acting” requirement. Among peers, she stands out way above average.‘
Despite much mental preparation, Angelica still felt somewhat insecure. This minor character is unknown and isn’t exactly good–looking either–will the teacher think I’m slacking off?
‘He said looks didn’t matter, as long as she could act, but in showbiz? If you believe everything others say, you might as well go back home. If I actually dared to stuff a few ugly girls into his crew, I’d be risking severing the teacher–student relationship.
‘In this circle, even ‘average‘ women have looks far above average levels. I’d best take what Leonard says with a grain of salt.
While lost in thought and glancing around randomly, Angelica suddenly noticed an osmanthus cake beside her hand.
This cake was part of the props and sprayed with chemicals to prevent accidental consumption by actors. Therefore, despite being an actual pastry, it had been reused multiple times and had long since become dry and hard.
Angelica’s eyes narrowed slightly. She noticed that the osmanthus cake that had just been pinched by Mary was actually broken.
The script didn’t call for Mary to break the cake. There was only one possibility: the actress playing Lady Mary got into character and, either intentionally or involuntarily, broke the cake.
Angelica glanced at Tasha, who was still diligently working away.
Could it be this small extra who brought Mary into her role?‘ she wondered.
Recalling Tasha’s look and performance when she “died,” Angelica made up her mind.
‘Slack off? Be it! Manuel is shooting a big production recently, so Leonard hastily pulled out a similar script to compete with him. It’s obvious it will flop badly. When it comes to slacking off, who can beat Leonard?

‘If I were to introduce some famous actor to this mess, I would be pushing her into a fire pit. Better to give this talented extra some job opportunities instead. With that thought, Angelica’s last bit of hesitation vanished.
She waved at Tasha. “Tasha, stop what you’re doing and come over here. I’ve got something to ask you.”
Tasha hurried over, asking politely, “What is it?”
Angelica asked with a smile, “What other roles have you taken on lately?”
Tasha was taken aback for a moment before she replied sheepishly, “This is not a joke, right? We day players take whatever we can get.”
Angelica nodded; Tasha’s answer wasn’t surprising to her.
“My teacher has a project that needs a few more characters,” Angelica explained. “He asked me if I could lend someone out today. Are you interested?”
“Me?” Tasha immediately displayed a look of flattered surprise.
Angelica chuckled internally, replying, “Yes, you. Don’t expect major roles, though; my teacher’s script is based on a well- known novel. But supporting roles are possible. Here’s the number; contact them yourself.”
It didn’t require Angelica herself to make the call personally; giving Tasha a number was already helping her out big time- many people didn’t even get that chance.
Tasha was stunned for a moment but then showed surprise and gratitude, “Thank you, Angelica!”
With that, she quickly fished out a notepad and pen from her pocket and handed them to Angelica with both hands.
‘How could someone not use a phone, but instead resort to the old–school method of pen and paper?‘ Angelica was puzzled for a second, but didn’t think much of it. She picked up the pen and was about to write on the notepad.
The notepad was filled with square characters, not exactly pretty, but neatly written. They were lines from a script.
‘The little extra is putting in a lot of effort, Angelica thought, feeling secretly sorry for Tasha.
She quickly scribbled down a string of numbers on the notepad and handed it back to Tasha.
Seeing Tasha’s eager eyes, somehow, Angelica was reminded of her early days in the industry, brimming with hope, dreaming day and night of just one opportunity.
She let out a sigh and advised, “Dress up nicely when you go for the interview. It’s best if you get some beauty treatments. Girls in the circle need to maintain themselves a bit.”
Tasha thanked her repeatedly, which made Angelica, who had only intended to slack off, quite embarrassed.
“Alright, stop wasting time here, we’ve got cleaners for that,” Angelica said with a listless smile. “Go collect your wages.”
Tasha agreed happily and left the room.
Once she was out of Angelica’s sight, all traces of pride, surprise, and flattery vanished from Tasha’s face instantly, cleaner than evaporation.
System 103 commented lazily, “Your changing expressions is way better than playing Mr. Neal just now.”
“You got nothing better to do?” Tasha replied.
