Chapter12
Alexander Stone’s hand froze over the report.
Over the past three years, he had picked up scraps of news about Grace Miller.
She had gone abroad to study at a top design institute.
Her work had begun appearing in niche exhibitions.
Later, she quietly returned home and established her own studio.
Each rumor was like a pinprick, too small to wound, yet sharp enough to unsettle him. A restlessness. A hollow sense of loss.
And inevitably, he compared her quiet independence to Bella Hart‘ s endless demands.
The wife he once treated as invisible, disposable… now seemed to be blossoming, out of his sight, into someone radiant and untouchable. And the brighter she became, the more his so–called “new life” looked chaotic and tawdry in contrast.
A week later came the Tri–Cities Philanthropy Gala, the grandest event of its kind, drawing the elite
from every field.
Alexander arrived with Bella on his arm.
Desperate to dominate the spotlight, Bella had chosen an over–embellished gown dripping with
sequins, her makeup immaculate but heavy, her laughter pitched too high, her gestures too showy. People turned to look, but not with admiration–more with polite discomfort.
Alexander felt the familiar weight of exhaustion settling over him. His gaze drifted, almost
unconsciously, around the hall.
Then a stir ran through the entrance.
Heads turned. Murmurs spread.
Grace Miller walked in.
She wore a pale satin gown, its clean cut tracing her figure with understated elegance.
No jewelry, no ornaments–just the natural curve of her neck and shoulders revealed by a loosely
pinned knot of dark hair.

Her face bore only the faintest touch of makeup, yet she glowed with health, composure, and a
quiet confidence that lit the room.
She was there as an artistic consultant and design partner for an international environmental
foundation. From the moment she entered, all eyes were drawn to her..
Alexander’s eyes locked on her and refused to move.
His chest jolted, a fierce thrum pounding through him.
This Grace was not the woman who once lowered her gaze, trembling with hurt and submission. She was poised, luminous, and entirely transformed.
When had she become so breathtaking?
Bella noticed too. She saw how the room’s attention shifted effortlessly toward Grace, away from herself, and jealousy flared instantly, like a spark catching fire.
Curling her lips, she raised her voice so others would hear.
“Alexander, look at that gown–so plain, so colorless. Honestly, it looks like something you’d wear
to a funeral. What an awful choice.”
But Alexander barely registered her words. His focus was riveted on the circle of men around Grace.
Noah Carter, the young CEO of a booming tech empire.
Oliver Reeves, the internationally acclaimed Chinese architect.
Harrison Blake, the veteran investor with connections reaching across continents.
They leaned toward Grace as they spoke, their eyes alight with genuine respect and admiration.
And Grace, standing among them, conversed with ease–calm, confident, effortlessly graceful.
Jealousy–hot, sharp, undeniable–erupted inside Alexander’s chest.
Before he realized what he was doing, his hand slipped from Bella‘ s arm. His steps carried him
toward her.
“Grace.”
Her name left his mouth low and firm, edged with something he didn’t recognize until later-
possessiveness.

Grace turned.
The smile she had been sharing with Harrison Blake softened, faded. Her expression remained calm, polite, but distant.
“Mr. Stone,” she said evenly, voice carrying no warmth at all. “It’s been a while.”
