Chapter16
So that was the truth.
There had never been any loyalty, any “sacrifice” from Bella Hart. Only Grace Miller, with blood on her hands, reckless courage, and a desperate fight to keep him alive‘.
And Bella? A fraud. A thief who stole another woman’s deed and passed it off as her own.
Every concession he had made, every compromise, every ounce of guilt he had carried out of “gratitude“-it was all a colossal farce.
And what had he done to the one who had truly saved him?
He staged a car crash to warn her off when she began investigating.
-He let Bella humiliate her in a police station, then told her to get out.
-He dragged her off an operating table just to satisfy Bella’s whim for cake.
-He stood by while Bella used needles and capsaicin to scar her back.
-He forced her into a pool scattered with shards of glass.
-He threatened her with her parents‘ company.
Each scene, each memory cut into him like a blade, every image steeped in Grace‘ s suffering, every one a monument to his cruelty and blindness‘.
Why? Why hadn’t he checked the facts?
Why had he swallowed Bella‘ s flimsy lies without question?
Why had he never considered that his quiet, “uninteresting” wife might have carried that kind of
fearless resolve?
The weight of regret crushed him like a riptide, dragging him under until he could barely breathe.
Finally, Alexander’s head snapped up. He looked at Bella–still pretending to lie unconscious on the bed. His gaze turned glacial, livid, blazing with the fury of a man who realized he had been played for a fool.
“Bella. Hart.” His voice was a rasp torn between rage and disbelief, every syllable ground out
between his teeth.

Bella had seen everything.
She had watched him replay the dashcam footage, watched the storm break across his face.
The moment that deadly voice reached her, her body jolted. Her eyes flew open–and she was met
with his, bloodshot and merciless.
Her heart nearly stopped.
“Alex… 1–I can explain…” she stammered, scrambling upright.
“Explain?!” He slammed his phone in front of her, replaying the damning footage, his voice shaking with fury. “xplain how you stole another woman’s sacrifice and conned me for years‘ ! Huh?!”
Her face drained of color.
She collapsed back onto the mattress, her spine gone limp.
It was over. Everything was over.
Then hysteria took her. She laughed–high, broken, maniacal. Laughed until it curdled into tears,
until her words came out shrill and venomous.
“Yes! I lied! So what?! You were stupid enough to fall for it! And Grace–that stupid bitch–who saves a man’s life and leaves without a word?! She deserved it! Both of you–one blind, one dumb!
Ha! Ha ha ha!”
Alexander recoiled from the twisted face before him. Disgust curdled deep, black and choking.
He stripped her of everything–credit cards, apartment, luxury goods, every connection and
resource she had leeched from him. He leveled fraud and defamation charges against her, exiling
her from his world entirely, ensuring she would never set foot in his circle again.
The fall was swift and merciless. Bella was disgraced, indebted, abandoned. She drifted overseas, penniless, broken–her mind finally shattering under the weight of her own lies.
And Alexander?
After the shock, after the rage, came the void. A crushing, icy despair.
Memories surged like acid, the divorce decree, the auction house, the police station, the freezer, the pool, the scars across her back.
