Chapter 143
Hell, it seemed, still had room for one more lost soul.
As I chewed with disinterest, I saw Bob–Dragão’s right–hand man–approaching with that smug grin
that got on my nerves.
He stopped in front of the table, ignoring the looks from my men.
“Tony,” he said, his voice dripping with fake courtesy. “Your guys crossed the line this morning. They were near warehouse 3, on Dragão’s side.”
I rolled my eyes, already tired of the nonsense.
“And did Dragão care?” I asked without looking up.
“No, but…”
“Exactly,” I cut him off, setting down my fork and slowly lifting my gaze. “Then you should save your little performance. You’re not Dragão, Bob. And he knows I’m not looking for a war. But you–you’re always itching for one. You know that if I even touch you, your whole side will rise up. And honestly? I don’t have the patience for that kind of headache right now.”
Bob clenched his jaw but said nothing. He just took a step back as I calmly stood from the table.
“I’ll tell the guys. I don’t want anyone crossing the line,” I stated, walking toward the exit without glancing back.
The hallway air was heavy with sweat and rust. My footsteps echoed as I headed toward the back, where the “business” happened.
One of my men was already waiting with a cardboard box.
“The delivery’s here,” he said, pulling a dirty cloth off the top of the box.
I opened it and saw toothbrushes, soap bars, granola bars–and a few razor blades hidden among the more innocent items.
Nothing got through without my seal.
Everything in here had a price, and I controlled the currency.
I picked up one of the toothbrushes, examined it, and then looked at the boy.
“Leave half in Wing C. The rest, give to the protected ones. You can charge in cigarettes or favors. No credit.”

Chapter 143
He nodded and left in a hurry.
I took a deep breath and walked back to my makeshift quarters—an old maintenance room I’d turned into my control center.
I was just about to sit down when another one of my men entered.
“Tony, I got this from one of the guards.”
He handed me a wad of bills hidden inside a toothpaste box.
“The stuff arrived last night. Two of them already took the payment.”
I opened the package, counting the money without changing my expression.
A decent amount.
Enough to keep a few guards quiet for another week.
“Good.”
I stashed the cash in a hidden compartment under the floorboards.
“Keep them busy. Tell them if they turn a blind eye during next week’s inspection, they’ll get
double.”
He nodded again and left quickly, knowing I hated repeating orders.
I sat back down, staring at the dirty but quiet room around me. There were always fires to put out every day, so many that it felt like nothing new could possibly happen.
Despite the chaos, the routine never changed.
Predictable.
But today… there was a different hum in the air.
New inmates were on the way.
And with them, maybe a spark to break this monotony.
Maybe hell was about to get a new toy.
And if that toy was interesting enough… it might just become mine.
The creak of the door. pulled me from my thoughts. Two guards entered without knocking, their

“Tony.”
The one in front gave a curt nod.
“There’s a fight this afternoon in the yard. The warden wants a show. The new inmates coming in now are going straight into the arena. No time to settle in. Just fun.”
I raised an eyebrow and leaned back lazily in my chair.
“What a lovely welcome,” I muttered, a smile forming. “Let it happen. The more blood, the quieter things get afterward.”
The second guard chuckled darkly, but before leaving, he turned back to me.
“Oh, and the others want more of the product. The good–kind. They said the last batch came up
short.”
I gave a bored nod.
“Tell them tomorrow’s shipment will be double. And if they complain again, they’ll go hungry. Literally.”
He smirked and left with the other guard.
I was alone again–but now, something new was on the horizon.
The yard was going to be interesting today.
