Chapter 222
Adrian Kael
For the first time in my life, I know what happiness is, and it’s sitting right in front of me, with its hands still on my face, trying to understand what it just did to me.
Magnus lets out a tired sigh and finally pulls his hand away from my
face.
“You’re going to give me a heart attack, Adrian.” His voice comes out
low. “Anything I do, you nearly have a stroke.”
The laugh comes easily, stronger than before.
I slide my chair closer to him, the sound echoing lightly through the
mess hall.
“It’s not my fault, love,” I smirk. “I love you too much. Before I was arrested, four months had already passed… and you had already been here for another four.” I look at him affectionately. “I’ve been in love since the day I saw you. And now, getting something in return…” My smile widens. “It just drives me crazy.”

He laughs softly, shaking his head.
“You’re insane.”
I lean in, resting my elbow on the table with a bold smile.
“Yes. Insane for you.”
Before he can retort, TJ appears with two trays, placing them
carefully in front of us.
“TJ, go to David with your companions. He will give something to all
of you,” I order in a calm yet firm tone.
TJ’s eyes shine with anticipation.
“Yes, boss.”
As he walks away, I turn my gaze back to my god,
“Let’s eat, love.”
Magnus stares at me seriously for a moment, and it confuses me.
“What is it?” I ask, arching an eyebrow.

He pulls his tray closer and begins to eat without looking at me.
“You seem to have gotten quite close to the cooks.” His voice is too
calm, almost cold.
I tilt my head, not understanding where he’s going with this.
“Well… winning their trust is useful. That way we’ll always have
something decent on our plates instead of that inedible slop.”
No response.
I pout slightly at the silence and begin to eat as well, trying to ignore
the discomfort gnawing at me from the inside.
“You’ve also been getting very close to David, haven’t you?” He asks,
still not looking at me, his voice icy.
I stop chewing, staring at him intently.
“A little,” I respond in a neutral tone. “He’s an efficient ally, always
obedient like a trained dog. I like the way he works.”
Magnus lifts his eyes only to drop a single word:
“Good.”

He returns to his meal, letting the silence weigh between us, dense
and uncomfortable. Something in him changed suddenly, and I have
the strange feeling that this conversation is far from over.
When he finishes eating, he just sits there watching the mess hall in
silence, his expression closed off and distant. I try to continue my
meal, but the lump in my throat won’t let me. I let out a weary sigh.
“Love… Did I do something that bothered you?” I ask in a low voice.
“If I did, I’m sorry.”
He takes a deep breath before answering.
“You didn’t do anything. It’s just me.” His eyes meet mine for an
instant. “My bad.”
I force a small smile, trying to lighten the mood.
“How about we take a walk? Stretch our legs a bit.”
Magnus nods without saying a word and stands up. There’s something
in his expression–fatigue, perhaps, or contained irritation. Still, when I intertwine our fingers, he doesn’t pull away. On the contrary, he squeezes my hand, which makes me smile with relief.
We leave the mess hall and head down the corridor, the sound of our

footsteps echoing softly. Everything is calm, but I feel a tension in
the air that I don’t quite understand yet.
Further ahead, we run into David. And for some reason, the mere
sight of him now causes me a strange discomfort, a pang of unease I
can’t explain.
“Boss,” he begins, glancing quickly at my Magnus before turning his gaze back to me. “I’ve settled everything. I delivered the doses to the guards and Navarro. Only the kitchen crew is left.”
I feel Magnus’s hand loosen in mine, which makes my stomach turn.
“Right. Good work, David,” I respond without looking directly at him. “I’m with my love right now. Don’t disturb me.”
I pull my dog along to keep walking, but as I glance sideways, I see his jaw tense, his face closed off, and his eyes fixed ahead.
“Love… What’s going on?” I ask carefully, not wanting to irritate him.
“Did David do something?”
He lets go of my hand and rubs his face, visibly annoyed.
“It’s nothing, Adrian. I just…” He bites his lower lip, hesitant. “I just need some time alone. To get my thoughts in order… and my feelings

too.”
I stand there, watching him. I don’t understand. Why did he get so
bothered? What, exactly, shook him so much?
And then, like a click, the answer hits me. A trigger.
A slow smile forms on my lips. My heart races, and my whole body
shudders with pleasure. I cover my mouth with my hand, trying to
contain my ragged breathing. He looks at me, confused, almost
alarmed by the change in my expression.
“What is it?” he asks, furrowing his brow.
A low, drawn–out laugh escapes me.
“Are you jealous, love?”
The way he looks away is the sweetest, most addictive confirmation I
could ever desire.
I can’t contain myself. I lunge forward without thinking, grabbing him by the collar and crashing our lips together with urgency. The
kiss explodes between us–hungry, full of everything words couldn’t
say. There’s anger, desire, and a sickly love pulsing through every
movement.

My hands find his waist, squeezing him against me. His body
responds, and the low sound that escapes his throat hits me like a
spark. There’s strength in the kiss, but also a hidden tenderness
there, as if every movement said what his mouth doesn’t dare confess.
When I pull back just a little, our breaths mingle. His face is flushed,
his lips wet, and that look… that look is enough to dismantle me
entirely.
“You don’t need to feel jealous, my love,” I say, breathless. “I’m yours.
Only yours. I will never betray you. My body… and what exists inside
it… belongs to you.”
He still stares at me in silence, and the intensity in his gaze breaks
me down. I kiss him again, calmer this time but with the same
intensity, letting the feeling guide the gesture.
I rest my forehead against his, feeling the heat of his face and the
frantic beat of our hearts. I close my eyes for a moment, like someone
trying to save this sensation forever.
“I love you, Magnus Hale,” I say with a thick voice, my lips brushing
against his. “Remember that. I love you.”
I close my eyes and rest my face against his neck, inhaling the familiar and comforting scent.

“I love you,” I repeat softly, like a promise only he could hear.
And for a moment, nothing else exists besides the sound of our
breathing and the taste of him still lingering in my mouth–sweet,
intense, and addictive. I kiss his chest, feeling his warmth under my
lips.
