Chapter 12: “Want to See You”
Not long after Jaxen left, Lily groggily opened her eyes.
The smell of disinfectant filled the air, and all she could see was white. So, she was in the hospital?
After leaving the Foster family, the rain had been pouring heavily. Through the haze, she saw the missed calls on her phone and dialed back.
Just after she gave the address, her head started to feel heavy, and she fainted.
So, it was that person who brought her to the hospital?
Ten years ago, she had unknowingly saved a man.
In return, the man gave her a jade pendant and a string of phone numbers.
He said that she had done him a favor, and if she ever needed help, she could call this number.
Lily wrote down the number, half–believing it. But tonight, by a twist of fate, it had come in handy.
She thought that, after more than a decade, the person must have forgotten about her.
She just dialed it out of curiosity, not expecting much, but the call actually went through.
Lily couldn’t even remember his appearance clearly. All she remembered was that the young man had worn a police uniform, and the number on his shoulder was “258.”
That should have been his code name.
While lost in her memories, the door to the hospital room suddenly creaked open.
A man in a suit entered, and Lily froze, instinctively turning her head.
The newcomer was tall and handsome, and Lily couldn’t help but stare at him a little longer.
Ambrose hadn’t expected Lily to wake up so quickly. He hurriedly said, “Miss Foster, do you feel uncomfortable? Wait a moment, I’ll call the doctor to check on you.”
After a bit of commotion, a group of medical staff entered the room, then quickly left.
Lily watched the medical personnel coming and going, feeling a sense of unreality.
It was like she mattered to someone.
Once the staff left, Lily turned to Ambrose and asked, “258? Thank you for tonight.”
That memory was from so long ago when Lily was only fourteen.
Now, ten years had passed… The person’s appearance had already blurred in her mind.
Ambrose was stunned, and a trace of surprise flashed in his eyes.
He didn’t know what the number “258” meant to Lily, but he guessed it might have something to do with Jaxen.
Ambrose didn’t dare to speak out of turn.
“Miss Foster, are you looking for the person who saved you? He left earlier. I’m Ambrose, if you need anything, I can take care of it for you.”

So, it wasn’t him.
Lily nodded, and Ambrose could see she was a bit tired. He gently closed the door behind him as he left.
In the hallway. Ambrose immediately sent a message to Jaxen: [Mr. Gates, Miss Foster has woken up. The doctor said her condition is stable.]
Jaxen replied immediately: [Good.]
After sending the message, Ambrose thought of something and added: [Miss Foster might want to see you.]
When Jaxen received the message, he had just arrived at the club. The rain was heavy, but the man walked with a sense of purpose, and his clothes didn’t get wet.
He looked down at his phone, the screen casting a soft light across his high nose.
When he saw the words “Want to see you,” Jaxen raised an eyebrow.
He exuded an air of dominance. The lighting slanted down, making his tall figure stand out.
His deep–set eyes looked somewhat amused but with a tinge of coldness.
Jaxen bit a cigarette at the corner of his lips and typed: [I’ll hurry back.]
After sending the message, Jaxen wiped the smile off his face.

In the private club’s room, when Jaxen appeared suddenly, everyone who had been surrounding Mateo to flatter him quickly shifted their attention to
Jaxen.
If Mateo was the crown prince of the capital’s elite circle, then Jaxen was the emperor.
Everyone in the room knew that Jaxen held real power, as he was the head of the Gates Corporation.
Mateo awkwardly scratched his nose. He had been acting all high and mighty just moments ago, but now he approached Jaxen to greet him.
“Uncle.”
