Chapter 30: Why Should I Bail You Out When We’re Getting a Divorce

Mateo’s breath caught, You think I’m dirty?”

Yes! Mateo, can’t you understand what I’m saying?”

Lily’s eyes were red as she finally exploded, the years of pentup emotions pouring out in a single burst

I used to chase after you, following you around like a little tail. But when you secretly started a relationship with Eliza and had me sent to jail, that was the end for us!”

Glass shattered all over the floor. Someone’s blood had mixed with it, but Lily didn’t care

Now I’ve woken up. Let’s just say I was blind to have liked you in the first place. What’s the matter? You can’t accept that, can you?”

A cold smirk appeared on her face

Mateo didn’t let go of her, so Lily grabbed the broken bottle, now a sharp shard, and began slamming it onto his hand

I congratulate you. You got what you wanted! You’re finally going to marry Eliza. But now you’re holding my hand, aren’t you worried about your precious Eliza getting jealous?”

With one final, forceful swing, the glass bottle shattered completely. The pieces scattered across the floor, sharp and dangerous

She tossed the bottle cap aside, noticing that Mateo’s arm was covered in blood. His face showed no sign of emotion

At that moment, Elodie rushed over, worried. Lily, are you okay?”

Lily’s arm was stained with blood, and the scene was chaotic, which naturally worried Elodie. But luckily, there didn’t seem to be any cuts on her

Just as Elodie finally let out a sigh of relief, she saw police officers filing in one after another

It turned out someone had quietly called the policeno one knew when

A few men who were close to Mateo quickly approached him to check on his injury. Mateo, are you alright?”

No one had expected things to escalate to this point

Mateo remained silent, his lips pressed together tightly, his face pale

His arm was badly injured, with blood flowing steadily

One of his friends suggested, Mateo, the ambulance is here. Let’s get you to the hospital.”

Mateo nodded silently, casting a complicated glance at Lily before he left

Lily didn’t look back, her gaze steady and unwavering. She didn’t want to give him any more of her attention

At the city police station, Lily sat in the interrogation room, her body stained with blood

Her face was pale, and her frail form curled up on the chair. She was silent, but there was a deep sense of brokenness about her

Elodie, sitting beside her, was visibly worried. Lily, are you okay? Why are you shaking?”

They had rushed to the police station, and Lily had left her jacket behind at the bar

Now, she was only wearing a red knitted slip dress

Chapter 30: Why Should I Bail You Out When We’re Getting a Divorce

The chill of the night made her uncomfortable

Lily turned to Elodie, forcing a smile. I’m fine, just cold.”

Elodie hesitated. She, too, was wearing just a thin shirt, but she offered her jacket to Lily

You were so brave earlier, taking on Mateo. When he left, his face was all blue. I bet no one’s ever dared to do that to him before.”

Lily hadn’t intended to hurt him, but when Mateo grabbed her and tried to drag her out of the bar, she didn’t expect things to escalate this much

Mateo had ignored her in the past, always treating her like air, but now that they were apart, why was he still holding on

And then, after he had announced his engagement to Eliza at the press conference yesterday, it should have been clear to him that there was no reason for them to continue any further

A police officer entered the room

Miss Foster, we’ve reviewed the surveillance footage from the incident. Your actions were in selfdefense, so according to the law, you won’t face any charges. However, someone will need to come and bail you out.”

Elodie immediately stood up. Can I bail her out?”

The officer glanced at her. No, you’ll need a family member to come and bail her out.”

Elodie sighed, glancing at the clock on the wall. It was already 2:30 AM, and her parents were probably asleep by now

She didn’t want to worry them by waking them up in the middle of the night

After a moment of hesitation, she called her husband, Josh

The phone rang a few times before being answered. In the background, there was loud noise, and it sounded like Josh was playing cards with someone. There was even a woman’s voice faintly heard

Josh’s voice was indifferent as he answered, What’s going on?”

Elodie didn’t waste time with pleasantries. She spoke coldly, as if she were talking to a stranger, Come to the police station and pick me up.”

After a few seconds of silence, Josh’s voice was heard again, tinged with sarcasm

Getting yourself into trouble? You’re at the police station now? Elodie, you really know how to get yourself into messes.”

Elodie clenched her phone, hearing the impatience in his voice

She was about to hang up when Josh suddenly added, I’ll come get you, but“

Elodie waited for him to continue, her patience wearing thin

Give me a child.”

Elodie was taken aback

What? A child? We’re about to divorce, and you want me to have a child with you? Josh, have you lost your mind?”

She could tell he was deliberately making it difficult for her

Their marriage had been one of convenience, a political alliance. Josh had his own person in his heart, but due to family pressure, he had married her

This marriage had never been something Elodie had wanted

Chapter 30: Why Should I Bail You Out When We’re Getting a Divorce

For two years, she had been living in this empty marriage, holding on to hope only to end up with despair

When she realized that Josh would never love her, she had suggested a divorce

He had agreed, and now they were figuring out when to finalize the process

Yet now, he was asking her to have his child

What kind of joke was that

It was clear that Josh didn’t want to come to the police station and was using this request to get her to back off

So,Josh’s voice became even more mocking, Since we’re getting divorced, why would I bail you out?”

Elodie was stunned. Before she could respond, the phone went dead

She stood there, staring at the phone, her mind racing

Her eyes began to fill with tears, but she forced herself to calm down and smiled, though it was a painful and bitter expression

You saw it, right? This is how things are between us. Josh won’t come.”

Lily, heart aching for her friend, gently pulled Elodie into a comforting hug

Elodie clearly didn’t want to dwell on this topic, and she quickly changed the subject. My useless husband looks like we’ll have to rely on your husband to bail us out.”

Lily bit her lip, unsure whether Jaxen was even awake at this hour

They had just gotten married, and now she was asking him to come to the police station and bail her out

It was all too absurd, especially after the mess they had just gone through

How would Jaxen think of her now

Part 1 – The Message That Shattered Everything

Aveline Russell’s peaceful evening ended the moment her phone buzzed.
One unread message changed her life: blurred photos of a hotel room, clothes scattered, a man’s familiar frame.
Her heart froze when she recognized the wrist—Jaxson Thorne, her mate of four years and Alpha of the Thornpeak Pack.
The date on the pictures was crueler still: it was their mating-anniversary night, the day he’d sworn they’d celebrate together.
He’d told her he was away on urgent pack business.
Now she understood the truth—his “urgent mission” had been an affair.

Part 2 – The Weight of Betrayal

For a long moment, Aveline couldn’t breathe.
Every memory—their first bond, his promises, his laugh—now felt like poison.
Her wolf spirit stirred in the back of her mind, restless and angry.
That instinct had always disliked Jaxson; she’d ignored it, blinded by love.
Now her wolf’s growl inside her head said what her heart refused to admit: He was never yours in truth.
Aveline exhaled sharply, tears drying into determination.
If Jaxson could betray her so easily, she would choose herself for the first time.

Part 3 – The Call of No Return

She opened her contacts and dialed a hidden number—the Bloodmoon Research Facility.
When the voice on the other end answered, she spoke calmly:

“I’ve decided to join.”
A stunned silence followed.
The official warned her what that meant: once inside the classified project, she would vanish from every record—no family, no pack, no past.
Her name, her life, her identity would all be erased.
“Are you ready to walk away from Alpha Jaxson?” the voice asked.
Aveline stared at a framed photo of them smiling together and whispered, “Yes. I’m ready.”
It was the first honest answer she’d given in years.

Part 4 – The Wolf Within

After the call, she sat in the dark, feeling her wolf awaken fully.
The beast within her—the same one Jaxson had mocked as too quiet, too gentle—rose with fierce pride.
It wanted revenge, but more than that, it wanted freedom.
For the first time, Aveline listened.
Her wolf’s steady heartbeat echoed through her veins, whispering that she was born for more than heartbreak.
She was still a healer, still a warrior, still a woman capable of rebuilding from ashes.

Part 5 – The Alpha Returns

Headlights flashed outside.
The front door opened, and Jaxson Thorne walked in as though nothing had happened.
He loosened his black tie, tossed his jacket on the hook—carrying the unmistakable scent of another woman’s perfume—and disappeared into the bathroom.
Aveline stood frozen.
Every sound—the running water, the creak of the floor—felt like thunder.
She wasn’t angry anymore; she was empty.
When he finally emerged in his robe, hair damp, muscles glistening, she realized how much power he once held over her.
That power was gone now.

Part 6 – The Perfume of Another

The air between them thickened with the scent of betrayal.
Jaxson smiled faintly, stepping closer.
“What’s with that look?” he asked playfully. “Miss me, babe?”
He wrapped an arm around her waist, his touch as casual as it was possessive.
Once, that warmth would have made her melt.
Now it felt suffocating.
Aveline stepped back.
The move caught him off guard; his brows furrowed.
“Are you upset again? Did someone bother you?”
He said it like a man used to being forgiven before the apology even began.

Part 7 – The Calm Before Goodbye

Aveline took a long, steady breath.
She could have screamed. She could have thrown the phone at him.
Instead, she turned to the drawer and retrieved a small locked box.
“Here,” she said quietly, handing it to him. “A gift.”
Her tone was so controlled that he almost smiled, thinking she’d finally softened.
Inside that box wasn’t jewelry or a token of affection—it was the legal document severing their mate bond.
Her signature glimmered at the bottom in dark ink.
For a heartbeat, she felt the invisible thread between them strain, preparing to snap.

Part 8 – The Wolf’s Decision

He looked puzzled, but she didn’t wait for his reaction.
She spoke evenly, her voice stripped of emotion.
“Four years, Jaxson. I gave you loyalty, trust, and love. You gave me lies.”
He opened his mouth to defend himself, but she raised a hand.
“No more excuses. You don’t have to explain the perfume, the late nights, the missing anniversaries. I already know.”
Her wolf stirred proudly at her strength.
This wasn’t the weak woman who used to beg him to stay.
This was the beginning of something new.

Part 9 – The Rebirth of Aveline

When Jaxson tried to reach for her again, she stepped aside.
His hand grazed the air where she once stood.
“You’ll regret this,” he said flatly, his pride pricked.
Aveline met his gaze without flinching.
“No,” she answered. “For the first time, I won’t.”
Her words cut deeper than any weapon.
Then she walked past him, out into the cold night, her wolf pacing inside her chest like a heartbeat of liberation.
In the distance, the moon hung low and red—an omen of endings, and beginnings.

Part 10 – The Alpha’s Fall, the Luna’s Rise

When Aveline closed the door behind her, Jaxson stood frozen with the open box in his hand.
He finally saw what she’d given him: the rejection papers that dissolved their bond.
The Alpha who thought he could own her had just been abandoned by the one woman who had ever loved him sincerely.
Outside, Aveline didn’t look back.
Tomorrow, she would join the Bloodmoon Research Facility, vanish from every record, and be reborn under a new name.
Her old life would die here tonight.
In its place, something stronger would rise—the woman her wolf had always known she could become.
Betrayed by her mate, freed by her pain, Aveline Russell walked into the dark with her head held high.
For once, the silence didn’t hurt.
It sounded like freedom.
