Chapter 506
By the time Celeste finished her work, it was already past ten.
Autumn had set in, and with the rain these past couple of days, the temperature had dropped quite a bit.
Maybe it was because she’d been sitting in front of the computer for too long and caught a chill, a sudden shiver ran through her body, and she sneezed several times in a row just as she closed her laptop and stood up to take a shower.
After she washed up and came out of the bathroom, her nose had already started running, and there was a dry, burning sensation in her throat. 4
Realizing she might be coming down with a cold, and knowing that at this hour the servants at the manor would already be asleep, Celeste went downstairs herself to make some tea to ease her cold.
She finished the tea and had just gone back upstairs when she heard Trevor’s voice, “Still awake?” 3
Celeste turned her head. “About to sleep.”
She had taken some cold medicine downstairs after drinking the tea, so her body felt warmer and a little
better.
But she was exhausted and didn’t have the energy to say much more. 1
“I’m going back to sleep,” she said. 1
With that, she turned and went back to Jordyn’s room, quickly drifting off.
She didn’t know how long she had slept before she vaguely heard Jordyn’s voice in her dreams. “Mom,
you’re burning up…” 2
Not long after, more footsteps entered the room. 2
Celeste tried to open her eyes, but her head felt unbearably heavy, and she quickly sank back into a dazed
sleep.
When she finally woke again, her head was throbbing, her body weak, and her throat scorched with heat. 3
She tried to get up to drink some water, and as she moved, someone came over to support her. (1)
“Want some water?”
Celeste froze, then slowly opened her eyes.
Trevor was standing in front of her. He had already turned away to pour water for her. (1
A moment later, he brought a cup over and handed it to her. She accepted it instinctively.

Just as she was about to thank him, she realized her throat hurt so badly she could barely speak.
She managed a couple of sips before seeing him turn to the phone in the room. “Bring the soup up,” he
instructed.
The water cleared her head a little. As she set the cup down on the nightstand, she suddenly froze.
It was only then that she realized–this wasn’t Jordyn’s room at all. She was in Trevor’s room. 8
He must have been taking care of her. There was even an open book lying on the small table nearby.
She was about to look away when Trevor hung up the phone and said, “Ten minutes ago, your fever was
at 39.8 degrees. I’ve already asked someone to fetch Dr. Carter. He should be here any minute.” 2
Celeste wanted to respond, but her gaze drifted to the window where the sky was still gloomy. It seemed
to still be raining.
That was when she suddenly remembered she had a meeting this morning. She couldn’t help but ask, ”
What time is it now?”
“8:20 am.”
It was still early.
She let out a breath of relief–only to hear him ask, “Want your phone?”
She hummed a response.
Trevor got up and went to Jordyn’s room to fetch it for her.
Meanwhile, Peter arrived with the soup.
Just as Celeste was about to get up and wash up, a sudden loud rumbling sound came from outside.
She froze, puzzled, until Peter chuckled. “That should be Dr. Carter.”
Seeing her confusion, he explained with a smile, “Though the rain has eased and the water has receded, the roads are still blocked and no cars can get through.
“But your fever was too high, and Trevor was worried something might happen to you, so he arranged for a helicopter to bring Dr. Carter here to treat you.” 14
With that, Peter reminded her to rest, then turned to leave. 6)
