Chapter 626
That evening, when Celeste got home after working late, she learned that Jordyn had come by the Rodriguez residence.
Jordyn tugged lightly at her sleeve and apologized in a cautious, guilty voice, saying that she had lost the marriage certificate belonging to Celeste and Trevor.
Celeste froze for a moment.
She hadn’t expected Jordyn to actually lose their marriage certificate.
She pressed her lips together, about to say something, but when she lowered her head and saw Jordyn looking clearly remorseful and afraid that she might get angry, she took a deep breath. 1
In the end, she didn’t scold her. “Since it’s already lost, then let it be. But from now on, without the family’s
permission, don’t casually take important documents or valuables from home to school again. Understand?
Seeing that Celeste wasn’t angry, the tension Jordyn had been carrying all day finally eased.
She hugged Celeste and nodded obediently. “I understand. I promise that without your and Dad’s permission, I’ll never do something like this again.”
Seeing her mood improve, Celeste didn’t say anything else, only added, “You should also tell your father about this.”
“I know. I already told Dad, but he probably hasn’t gotten off the plane yet. He hasn’t replied to my message.
A short while later, while Jordyn was in the bathroom, Celeste’s phone buzzed.
It was a message from Trevor. “Sorry.”
Celeste didn’t reply.
Very soon, a second message came through. “I may not be able to come back for a while.” 1
She saw it, but still didn’t reply.
The room was quiet.
After a moment, Trevor sent another message, “I’ve seen Jordyn’s message. When I get back, we’ll find time to reissue the documents.” (29
Celeste remained motionless.
Perhaps realizing that she really was quite angry this time, Trevor apologized once more after sending those messages. “Sorry.”

He was far away in Andostan and couldn’t come back to finalize the divorce with her. No matter how much he said now, it was useless.
In the end, Celeste didn’t reply to him at all.

Trevor didn’t send any more messages either.
Just then, however, the phone Jordyn had set aside began to ring.
It was Trevor calling.
Jordyn had just come out of the bathroom. Seeing her father’s call, she happily pulled out a tissue, wiping her hands as she put the call on speaker. “Dad, you’ve arrived in Andostan?”
Trevor hummed a response, then asked, “Did you properly apologize to your mom about the marriage certificate?”
“Yes! If you don’t believe me, you can ask Mom.” With that, she handed the phone toward Celeste.
Celeste gently pushed it away, “You two talk. Your dad and I already talked just now.”
“Oh, okay then.”
Hearing Celeste say that they had “already talked,” Trevor didn’t ask why she hadn’t replied to his messages. 1
Instead, just like Celeste had earlier, he reminded Jordyn not to touch things at home without the family’s permission.
Jordyn readily agreed. “Got it, Dad. You’re so naggy.
After chatting with Jordyn for a bit longer, Trevor finally hung up.
Before ending the call, though, he said, “Help me say good night to your mom too.” 5
Jordyn looked toward Celeste, who was sitting not far away, and said, “I’m on speaker–Mom already heard you.”
“Alright,” Trevor said.
The call between Trevor and Jordyn ended.
But Celeste looked at Jordyn and slowly lowered her eyes.
When Jordyn had apologized for losing the marriage certificate, her attitude toward Celeste had been extremely cautious, afraid that Celeste would be angry.
Yet when facing Trevor, she wasn’t afraid at all-
