Chapter 259
“What?”
“I asked if you’re the one dating her,” Alex said firmly.
Mr. Felix blinked, looking around, nervous and confused.
Poor guy, Mia thought immediately. He didn’t deserve this. She was the one who dragged him into this in the first place.
“Mr. Lowell-” Mia started, rushing to defend him, her voice tight.
“Not yet, sir,” Felix stammered.
Mia’s eyes snapped shut, her stomach twisting.
“Not yet?” Alex repeated slowly, his tone sharper now.
Mr. Felix let out a nervous chuckle that fell flat in the heavy silence.
“Do you like your job?” Alex asked, his voice deceptively soft.
Mia’s eyes flew open. She glared at him instantly, her chest burning in anger. But Alex didn’t even glance at her, his eyes stayed locked on Felix, cold and unblinking.
Felix’s throat bobbed as he swallowed hard. His eyes went wide, fear settling on his face. “Sir–of course, I love my job.”
“Good,” Alex said, his lips curling into something that wasn’t quite a smile. “Then let that not yet stay not yet forever.”
Felix froze, torn between confusion and terror. He looked between them helplessly, searching for a way out.
“Understood?” Alex pressed.
Felix nodded so fast Mia thought his head might fall off. “Yes, sir. Of course, sir.”
And just like that, Felix bolted, nearly tripping over himself as he rushed toward the entrance of the building.
Mia’s glare hardened. Her blood was boiling.
Alex chuckled, like chuckled. As if threatening the poor man was the most amusing thing in the world.
“Using your power to intimidate your employee? Really? Nice, Alex”
“Actually,” Alex said smoothly, “I’d do more if they cross boundaries.”
“Boundaries?” Mia bit out, her teeth clenched. “What boundaries?”

Finally, his eyes met hers. His voice dropped low, like it was meant for her alone.
“Not respecting the boundaries with my woman.”
Mia froze. Her lips parted, but no words came out. She could only stare at him.
“I’m not your woman,” she whispered harshly, her voice trembling.
Alex chuckled again, maddeningly calm.
And that was when she realized people were beginning to notice. Subtle glances. Whispered words. The curious stares of employees in the busy lobby.
Heat rushed to her cheeks. This was the last thing she wanted.
She spun on her heel, walking quickly toward the elevators, refusing to let anyone see just how shaken she was. Alex followed right behind her, his tall frame impossible to ignore.
People stared more openly now…..probably wondering why their stoic, untouchable CEO was suddenly smiling like a man in love.
Mia ducked into the elevator, jabbing the button. Of course, Alex slipped in right after her.
“Don’t you have your own private elevator?” she muttered bitterly.
Alex ignored her question completely. Instead, he turned his eyes on her, sharp and steady.
“Did you have to lie about a non–existent boyfriend… because you don’t want to be with me?”
The elevator doors slid shut, sealing them off from the world. Just the two of them.
Mia glanced at him quickly, then looked away, her fingers curling into fists. “Maybe,” she said faintly.
Silence filled the small space for a moment.
“Do you really hate the idea of being with me again, Mia?” Alex asked softly.
Her heartbeat thundered in her ears.
Say yes. The voice in her head screamed it. Say yes. If you say yes, he’ll stop. He’ll stop wanting you. He’ll let go. Say it.
She turned her face toward him, lips parting–ready to lie, ready to protect herself. But when her eyes met his, she couldn’t.
Her lips trembled as the truth slipped out instead, almost like a prayer. “I don’t hate it.”
The change in Alex was immediate. His whole face softened, like he had been holding his breath this whole time just waiting for those words.
He stepped closer, smiling, his hand reaching out as he slid his arm around her waist, pulling her against him.

“Alex,” Mia whispered, her voice unsteady. She wasn’t even sure what she was warning him for. Her palms pressed lightly against his chest, feeling the hard muscles beneath his suit.
“I love you, Turner,” he murmured.
Mia’s breath slowed down instantly. Her eyes fluttered shut, but slowly…hesitantly….she lifted her gaze to meet
his.
Their eyes locked, and like always, she was lost in it.
His voice grew rough, almost pleading. “I was a jerk in Willowcrest, I know. You have every reason to hate me, to be scared of me. But I promise you… I’m not that person anymore, Mia.”
The elevator jerked to a stop, breaking the spell. Mia pushed him away, her chest heaving.
Alex chuckled quietly, watching her with a small smile.
“Come with me to my office,” he whispered.
“It’s working hours, Blackwell,” Mia snapped, her voice sharper than she felt inside. “Go work.”
The doors opened with a soft ding.
Mia froze. A handful of employees were waiting outside. Their eyes flicked between her and Alex, curiosity sparking like wildfire.
She stepped out quickly, walking past them without a word.
“Good morning, sir.”
“Good morning, sir.”
The greetings tumbled out, but no one dared step into the elevator with him. They all waited until the doors closed again.
Mia kept her chin up, ignoring the eyes following her down the corridor. She marched straight toward her office, her heart still pounding.
She was late, and most of her colleagues were already at their desks, heads bent over work.
She slipped into her seat quietly, her lips tugging into a small smile she couldn’t quite stop.
Alexander Blackwell.
She tries her best to focus on her work. She typed, she sorted files, she answered emails. But her mind kept drifting back to him.
His voice, his words.

Chapter 259
Her phone buzzed. Speak of devil that has occupied her thoughts the entire day.
*Come up to my office. Let’s eat lunch together.*
She stared at the screen for a long moment. Her first instinct was to ignore it. She should ignore it. But her fingers betrayed her.
Minutes later, she was in the elevator, heading for the top floor.
When the doors opened, she stepped into another world.
The CEO’s floor.
It was nothing like her floor, nothing like any other part of the company. The air here felt different, quiet and powerful.
There were no cubicles, no chaos. Just sleek designs, polished floors, and a sense of authority that makes her want to make sure she is walking around here with respect.
She never thought anything would bring her up here, not when she had been planning on hiding from him forever probably?
She sighs looking around
There weren’t many offices up here. Maybe two?
Mia’s steps slowed. What was she even supposed to say?
She paused halfway, considering going back. Wasn’t this exactly what she didn’t want? People whispering? Rumors flying around? She wanted to keep her head down but here she was going to the CEO’s office for lunch.
God, Mia. What are you doing?
“Hello,” the secretary greeted politely, glancing at Mia’s company ID.
“Hello,” Mia replied softly.
“How can I help you?”
“I… I want to see Mr. Lowell,” Mia stammered, using his other name out of habit and respect for what he built here.
“Do-” the secretary started, but a familiar voice cut through the air.
“Mia.”
She turned quickly. Alex was standing by his office door, looking at her softly.
She gave the secretary a small nod, then forced herself towards him, her heels clicking softly against the polished floor.
Chapter 259
“Hey,” Alex whispered as she approached, moving closer….too close.
“Hey,” she said back, her voice low.
“Can you wait for me inside? I already ordered food.”
“Where are you going?” she asked.
“An emergency meeting,” Alex said with a sigh. “It won’t take up to twenty minutes.”
“Maybe I can go-”
“No.” The word was out of his mouth before she could even finish. His eyes burned into hers. “I’ll be here before the food comes. And if I don’t, you can start eating. I’ll join you later.”
Then, softer, he lifted his hand and brushed a strand of hair gently away from her face.
Her breath hitched.
“Stop. We’re outside,” she whispered harshly.
“So I can touch you inside?” Alex teased, his lips tugging into a grin.
Mia glared at him, heat crawling up her neck.
“Fine. I’ll keep my hands to myself,” he said with mock surrender.
“Good,” Mia muttered.
“Go inside,” he urged.
“It’s lunch break. You know I can’t stay long,” Mia reminded him.
“And if you do… what will happen?” Alex asked, amused, watching her every expression.
Mia rolled her eyes, refusing to give him the satisfaction. “Just don’t take too long.” She brushed past him and headed for the large door.
“See you later,” Alex called after her before walking down another corridor.
Mia stopped at the door to his office. She pushed it open and stepped inside.
Her lips parted instantly.
“Oh, wow…” she whispered.
The office was enormous. Everything screamed power, wealth, and well Alex.
She walked toward the sofa, sitting down carefully, almost afraid to touch anything.
Pulling out her phone, she considered calling her mom or Anna. They had been blowing up her phone all

morning after hearing about everything.
Before she could even decide, a knock echoed against the heavy door.
Mia frowned. Alex wouldn’t knock on his own office door.
She stood hesitantly, walking toward it. Didn’t the secretary tell whoever it was that Alex wasn’t around?
She pulled the door open.
And froze.
Zoe was standing there, holding food in her hands.
Mia’s chest tightened instantly
She has totally forgotten she saw her around here.
So this was the food Alex had said he ordered? He told Zoe to bring it?
Her fingers curled against the doorframe.
Not this. Not all this shit again…
