When they reached the upper floor balcony. She turned to him….Without a word, she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face on his chest.
Alex immediately hugged her back, tightening his hold on her. He lowered his face into her hair, breathing in her sweet soft scent.
“You listened to me… thank you,” Mia whispered against his chest.
Alex’s heart squeezed. He lowered his lips to her temple, pressing a kiss there, his voice dropping to a gentle murmur. “I’m glad I did. I should be the one thanking you–and this miraculous… weird power that you have.”
Mia pulled away just enough to see his face, her lips curving into a small chuckle. “It’s not a power,”
“It is,” Alex said without hesitation, his voice firm but full of awe. His eyes searched hers like he wanted to memorize every detail of her expression. “Do you have any idea what it means to foresee danger before it happens? These are things people only read about in books or watch in movies, Mia. And you did it. You saved me.”
Mia’s smile softened, she lowered her gaze, playing with the hem of his sleeve. “Trust me, I was so weirded out at first. I didn’t know what to think. I did so much research, Alex, you have no idea. I almost drove myself insane with it. Some explanations made sense, some didn’t…” She trailed off and shrugged gently. “But at the end of the day, I’m still just me. I’m still just Mia.”
Alex tilted his head, studying her face carefully. “What… what made sense to you?”
Mia’s eyes flickered up to meet his, hesitant. Then she sighed, biting her bottom lip before speaking. “Someone on a forum said it happens sometimes to people who’ve been close to death. That when you’re between life and death, when you come back, you might come back with… something else. Some kind of… spiritual trace.”
Alex listened, completely focused on her. She spoke softly, almost like she was ashamed of her own words.
“The idea was that since I was so close to dying, I might have carried back with me… some kind of energy. Like a spirit’s touch or… or something not meant for the living. That’s why I can see things sometimes. That’s why I can see things in a dream before they happen.” She gave a small, self–conscious laugh. “It’s crazy, I know. But that’s the only explanation that makes more sense than all the other weird ones people were saying.”
Alex’s throat tightened at her words. He couldn’t explain it either, but it didn’t matter. All he saw was the woman in front of him….his woman who had just saved his life
“Is it… bad?” Alex asked carefully. “When you dream, does it hurt you?”
Mia shook her head slowly. “Not really. I don’t feel pain. Just fear, when I wake up. Fear because now I know something awful is going to happen, and it’s suddenly my responsibility to stop it. That’s the hardest part- knowing and not being able to ignore it.” She gave a small smile. “But honestly, I’m glad it only happens with my family…. Imagine if it was strangers too? Me walking up to random people saying, ‘Hey, you’ll die

She chuckled softly. “I’d probably be in jail or a psych ward by now. And it wouldn’t be funny at all.”
Alex’s lips curved into a tiny smile, his chest aching with love for her. He squeezed her hands, then lifted one
to his lips, pressing a soft kiss against her knuckles. His eyes never left hers.
“Thank you for saving me, Mia,” he said quietly, his voice thick with emotion.
Her heart skipped. She smiled back.. “Well… pay up.”
Alex blinked, caught off guard, then chuckled when he saw the teasing glint in her eyes. “Pay up?”
Mia nodded, her grin widening. “Yeah”
His lips stretched into a rare, boyish smile. “Name it, Mia. I’ll give you anything you want.”
Mia rolled her eyes, still smiling. “Show off. Relax.”
Alex chuckled again, the sound low and warm. The playfulness between them melted slowly into silence, their smiles fading as their eyes locked.
The mood shifted, becoming heavier, deeper. Alex’s chest tightened as he stared at her, his heart beating painfully with everything he wanted to say.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered finally, his thumb brushing over the back of her hand. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me the most. I’m sorry for all the times I failed you, Mia.”
Her lips parted, but she didn’t speak immediately.
“Do you think… you can forgive me someday?” Alex asked, his voice low, almost pleading.
Mia stared at him for a long moment. She can see the sincerity in his eyes and the regret written all over his face,
She looked away, her chest rising and falling gently. Then she looked back at him again, her gaze softer.
“I’ve forgiven you already, Alex,” she said quietly.
Something in his chest cracked wide open. His hand twitched, wanting to reach for her again. But before he could, Mia bit her bottom lip nervously, like she had more to say. Alex reached up and gently tugged her lip free from her teeth, making her chuckle softly.
“You won’t admit it, but I know my responses to you have been cold and hot,” Mia whispered. “And I know it hurts you.”
Alex shook his head immediately. “No. I wasn’t hurt. I was… I was blaming myself. For pushing too much. For bringing up marriage so soon, when we had just found each other again…”
“But I want to,” Mia cut in suddenly, her voice firm.

Chapter 268
Alex blinked, confused. “Want to what?”
Mia’s lips curved shyly, her eyes shining with nerve and excitement. “Want to marry you.”
For a moment, Alex just froze. Her words echoed in his mind, over and over, until the meaning finally sank in.
The joy that burst across his face was almost boyish, so pure it made Mia’s heart flutter. He grinned so wide it was contagious, and Mia found herself smiling too, unable to stop it.
“For real, baby?” he asked, his voice cracking with disbelief.
Mia nodded, smiling through her nerves. “For real.”
Alex didn’t waste another second. He swept her into his arms, lifting her off the ground and spinning her around. Mia squealed and laughed, clutching his shoulders as her feet left the floor. Her laughter filled the balcony.
When he finally set her down, Alex didn’t give himself a chance to think. He leaned in and pressed his lips to hers in a sweet, heart–melting kiss.
It wasn’t rushed, it wasn’t hungry…it was soft, tender and filled with all the love he couldn’t put into words.
He pulled back just enough to look at her, his forehead resting against hers.
But Mia wasn’t done. She leaned forward and caught his bottom lip between hers, kissing him again, deeper this time.
Alex groaned softly against her mouth, pulling her closer by the waist, his hands placed against her back as he kissed her with a passion that left them both breathless.
When they finally pulled apart, Alex stared at her like she was his entire world. His voice drops lower….
“Someday, I’m going to marry you.”
Mia tilted her head slightly, her smile teasing, her eyes shining. “Someday?”
Alex nodded, his expression soft, full of love. “Someday,” he repeated.
Mia searched his face, her heart pounding. Then she leaned in closer, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Why wait for someday… why not now?”
