Mia nodded, her eyes falling to her hands as her fingers played with her ring finger. She won’t lie Ann’s words made her conscious of that.
“He had no hand in what his father did to us,” she said after a pause.
Her mother nodded slowly, watching her daughter with quiet understanding. “You’ve grown so much, Mia,” she said, her voice trembling slightly. There was pride in her tone… and a bit of guilt too.
Mia stared into the distance, her voice barely a whisper. “I had to. For him, I had to.”
She didn’t need to say who him was. Her mom’s eyes softened immediately.
They both knew she meant Aiden.
That boy was her everything. Her reason to survive, to push, to fight. Every single hard decision she had made was for him.
Her mother smiled faintly. “I’m happy for you, Mia. You deserve this. Aiden deserves this.”
Mia chuckled, shaking her head gently. “The fact that I was so scared of him knowing his father…” She let out a sad laugh “I was so stupid.”
“No,” her mom said quickly, cutting her off. “And you were right to be scared, considering what Blackwell did and the warnings he threw at you. You can’t blame yourself, Mia. You were only trying to protect yourself and Aiden.”
Mia hummed softly, her eyes flickering with old pain. She smiled faintly, then turned to look at her mother again. Her mom’s eyes were already on her, warm and full of love.
“What?” her mom asked, smiling when she noticed Mia staring.
Mia’s lips curved into a grin. “Your change still baffles me sometimes, Mom.”
Her mother laughed, really laughed, and it was the kind of laugh that filled the room with warmth. “Me too,” she said with a small shrug. “Me too.”
They both laughed together, and for a moment, the heaviness between them was gone.
“Anna said you guys are considering moving here,” Mia said after a moment.
Her mom tilted her head. “Is that okay with you?”
Mia blinked, the question catching her off guard. She slowly turned to her mom, staring like she couldn’t believe what she just heard.
“What? Mom, why would you ask me that?” Mia frowned. “Of course it’s okay. What the- I don’t own this

Her mom chuckled softly, shaking her head. “You’re right, I worded that wrong. I’m just worried about you and your sister co–existing-
“We won’t even be living together,” Mia cut in quickly, raising a brow.
Her mom nodded. “Right…you’re getting married.”
Mia felt her heart flutters, her cheeks warms up and her chest felt lighter. A small smile pulled at her lips.
“My Mia… marrying a billionaire,” her mom teased, shaking her head as though she still couldn’t believe it.
“I’m marrying the love of my life,” Mia said softly, smiling down at her hands.
Her mom smirked. “Still a billionaire.”
Mia let out a small laugh, rolling her eyes. “I know you were banking on Lily or Anna to bring home a billionaire son in law. Sorry, Mom, I’m doing it first.”
“Shut up,” her mom said, embarrassed but laughing at the same time.
Mia couldn’t help laughing too, holding her stomach as tears of amusement filled her eyes. “I was such a horrible person,” her mom said after a pause, her laughter fading into a small sigh.
“It’s okay, Mom,” Mia said, smiling softly. “What matters is who you are today.”
Her mom smirked, giving her a playful look. “That doesn’t mean I’m still not happy you’re marrying a billionaire.”
“Oh my God, Mom,” Mia groaned, standing up and walking toward the window, but she was smiling the entire time.
“Have you fixed a date yet?” her mom asked, eyes twinkling.
Mia shook her head, still smiling faintly. Like Anna had reminded her earlier, she didn’t even have a ring yet. It was funny and kind of beautiful all at once.
Her thoughts drifted for a second.
Was Alex not going to propose properly? The thought made her heart skip.
She wasn’t asking for something fancy or public or grand. She just wanted that moment…..the look in his eyes, the words, the feeling. The kind of moment that her heart will remember forever.
Her mom kept talking, but Mia’s mind was already wandering.
Her chest ached, it was full of love, hope and confusion all mixed together.

Alex’s office was quiet as he flipped through file after file. His focus was glued to the pile of documents in front of him.
Mia walks in….
She didn’t knock, she didn’t ask if she could come in or if he was busy. She just walked in, closed the door quietly, and made her way toward him.
Alex looked up, a small smile already forming when he saw her. “Hey, Turner.”
She didn’t answer. She just came closer, eyes locked on him.
Before he could say another word, she placed her hands on his shoulders and, without warning, climbed on his lap.
Alex froze, a little shocked, but his hands instinctively went to her waist to steady her. Her warmth pressed against him instantly, and just like that, every single file in front of him stopped mattering.
Mia didn’t say a word for a moment. She just sat there, her heart hammering against her ribs, her arms slid around his neck.
Alex leaned back a little, his eyes full of surprise and that familiar mischief that always made her want to roll her
eyes and kiss him at the same time.
“What’s this about?” he asked softly.
“Nothing,” she said, her voice low. “I just wanted to be close to you.”
Alex’s lips twitched. “That, I can live with.”
“Shouldn’t you be working though” Alex adds.
“Fire me then” Mia says smirking.
“What? Me? Am I crazy”
Mia chuckles.
Alex leans forward and pecks the corner of her mouth.
It clearly looks like something is bothering him.
She smiled faintly and looked at him, her gaze soft and searching. Her fingers moved up to touch his face gently, tracing the line of his jaw.
“Will you go and see him?” she asked quietly.
The mood shifted instantly.
Alex blinked, his eyes dropping for a moment before meeting hers again. He knew exactly who she was talking about.

Mia didn’t know how to feel about it. She hated that man. She hated what he did to her and to everyone she cared about.
But… he is still Alex’s father. No matter how cruel, cold or twisted he had been, that blood bond was still there. And it was eating Alex up inside.
Alex sighed, resting his forehead briefly against hers. “I’m thinking about it,” he said finally.
Mia nodded slowly.
Then Alex paused, his eyes locked on her face. “Will you come with me?” he asked.
Her brows drew together. “To Willowcrest?”
“Yes.”
Mia stared at him quietly.
Willowcrest….
Just hearing the name of that place made her chest feel tight. That place held memories.. a lot of bad ones.
Did she really want to go back there?
Her eyes lifted to Alex again. He was watching her carefully, patiently, waiting for her answer.
