“Looks like I really can’t get out, then. Raven shrugged and walked over to sit across from the young man.
She had once been a member of the Valor family, one of the four great families, but now that identity had been reduced to that of an ordinary citizen in the lower realm of Vyrdenia.
As for being the favored disciple of the Brown family’s leader, that was even more impossible. Not to mention that she had already inexplicably ended up with four masters. Even if those four didn’t mind her taking on another, she currently had no way of finding the Brown family’s ruling figure.
Still, she was curious why the favored disciple of the Brown family’s leader held such great privileges, so she asked teritatively, “So aside from the four great families, the Brown family’s chosen disciple also has this much authority?”
“Of course.” The young man scoffed.
He explained, “That person was the prodigy, personally mentored by all four ruling figures. Among all the top talents of the Brown family, only one earned the recognition of all four. No one else ever got that level of treatment.
He added, “I also heard the four leaders specially created a token for their treasured disciple, a symbol of identity. Seeing that token is like seeing the four rulers themselves. Every official and tycoon outside the royal capital bows and scrapes before him.”
He laughed. “Lowborns like you will never understand the rigid hierarchy of Forreb. It’s not like your lower realm, where entering a new land might mean a fresh start. Here, the class divide is worse. Powerless commoners are always the first to be sacrificed.”
From the young man’s words, this successor did seem to wield immense authority. But Raven had no memory of anyone matching that description.
Of course, for now, her priority was to find a way out of this solitary cell.
At first, Raven had assumed she would be brought in for a proper investigation, and once they discovered the Cherry family’s illegal medical experiments, she could clear her name. Looking back, that was far too naive.
Now, she had no choice but to find her own way out.
She quietly approached the locked door. After confirming no one was outside, she began examining the chains.
The moment she touched them, she realized they were sealed with a Starcard. Not just any Starcard, but one sealed by a high–level Starborne. Without knowing the card’s attribute, she couldn’t break the seal, not even with her current strength.
“That lock’s sealed. There’s no way you’re getting it open,” the young man remarked from behind when he saw Raven pacing by the door.
He continued, “But even if I told you why, you wouldn’t understand. If it were that easy to open, do you think I’d still be locked in here?”
Raven studied the lock a while longer and had to admit. She couldn’t
break it.
The young man said, “Give it up. All the solitary cell doors in Forreb come from Deariton and are issued centrally. Probably only the Brown family’s top leaders could open them. Unless you’re stronger than they are, forget about escaping.”
He added, “From the looks of it, you’re just an ordinary person, not even a warrior. You think you can escape? Not a chance.”
Raven’s face darkened. She had originally thought that if she explained things clearly, everything would be resolved. But these patrol officers were even more shameless than she’d imagined. They sentenced her without even distinguishing right from wrong.
