Soon after, Raven left the Inspection Bureau, surrounded by a crowd of patrolling officers treating her like royalty.
Meanwhile, a disheveled young man hidden in the shadows watched. He was dumbfounded. Raven not only broke out of the detention chamber on her own but was escorted out with the highest honors. He was utterly shocked.
Still, this was the perfect chance for him to slip away unnoticed. While everyone was busy fawning over Raven, he quietly slipped out of the Inspection Bureau as well.
On the other side of the city, Benson, following the orders of the middle–aged man, had located the address of the Larsson family.
Upon learning that Benson had been sent by that man, Nash immediately dismissed the servants and had him led into a small meeting room.
As Benson looked at the lavish decor around him, a flicker of yearning passed through his eyes. If not for Raven, he would still be the Third Commander of Vyrdenia, wielding great power, second only to the monarch, enjoying wealth and prestige.
Still, perhaps this was a blessing in disguise. As long as Raven died, he could use her as a stepping stone. After all, even a common citizen of Forreɓ held
far more value than a noble from the lower realm. His ambitions went far beyond mere citizenship.
If he could expose Raven’s true identity in public, he could curry favor with the higher–ups of the Cloudshadow Sect. As long as they took him in, wealth and rank would be his for the taking.
At this moment, Nash had no idea what greedy thoughts were running through Benson’s mind. He sized him up carefully, as if trying to judge the truth of
his claim.
A full minute passed before he finally spoke. “What do you want from me?”
Benson replied respectfully, “Sir, the supervisor at the Spatial Point sent me to deliver a message. He has something important to report to you.”
“Important?” Nash scoffed in disbelief.
Frihamen City was just a tertiary city. There shouldn’t be any matters concerning him. He thought Benson really was from the lower realm.
But just as Nash was about to find an excuse to send him away, Benson’s next words made his soul nearly leave his body. “The supervisor of the Spatial Point asked me to inform you. Raven has arrived in Forreb.”
“You… what did you say?” Nash’s voice trembled, his eyes suddenly filled with horror. “Who is this Raven you speak of?”
Benson paused. The reaction of Nash was eerily similar to that of the Spatial Point supervisor.
Benson replied, “Raven is a lowborn from the lower realm. She was born in Vyrdenia, a member of the second tier Valor family of Bastion. Her grandfather is Miles Henderson.”
“Miles Henderson…” Nash repeated the name several times, and then suddenly his expression twisted into sheer panic.
Back then, the former head of the Valor family had descended to the lower realm to cultivate under the alias Miles.
Nash’s entire body began to tremble, as if refusing to accept the implications. Still, he asked again, needing to be sure. “Is everything you just said true?”
Though puzzled by the man’s reaction, Benson answered honestly, “I swear on my life, every word I’ve said is true. If even one w miserable death.”
sfalse, may I die a
Seeing him make such a vow, Nash’s expression darkened. He stared at Benson and asked one last time. “You’re sure Raven has come to Forreb, and that she’s still alive?”
