“Yess!” Maya screams happily, her knees hitting the ground with a thump. “Ouch!” She winced before continuing her
scream.
Not a normal scream. A banshee war cry.

“Please stop.” I covered her mouth with my hand.

“Then pray that the gift is a cake.”
“Alright, winners,” Mrs Hopkins called, lifting a small white envelope out of her clipboard. “Your prize is a bit simple. For today and tomorrow, your team gets a free dessert of your choice during lunch and dinner.”
“Yesss!” I quickly covered my ears before my eardrum burst from Maya screech’s.
“Calm down girl,” I managed to mutter.
“But it’s dessert girl? We get a free dessert for two days.” She grabbed my shoulders, “do you know what this means?”
I blinked. “That you will overdose on sugar?”
“YES!” She didn’t even deny it. “And I shall crash proudly.”
Jamal snorted. “You sound like a malfunctioning robot.”
Maya whipped toward him and with a glare. “Thanks, nothing is going to stop this robot from getting free brownies. You can’t ruin my joy.”

“Alright, come here!” He bent down and carried her ina bridal style. “Lead the way before she collapses from happiness of being in my arms.” Jamal spat smugly. “Ouch,” he winced as she punched him on his nose.”
We started walking back toward the dorm building. The sun was still bright, but the adrenaline from the challenge was gone. My legs felt sore and weak like spaghetti, my hair was also sticking to my neck in sweat.
“Guys! Wait for me.” Nora called, running to us. “Is she okay?” She asked one she got to us.
“Yes, she’s just being a baby.” I answered.
Maya wiggle her legs, her arms flung around Jamal shoulders, as hum happily.
“She’s being too much of a baby, perhaps I should punch the side of her neck?” I spat
“To make her faint,” Jamal asked under his breath.

“I can hear both of you,” Maya growled. “And Aria, don’t you dare punch me.”

The moment we reached our floor, I opened our room door,
“Your room,” Maya muttered. I immediately took them to my room and she jumped off, face–planting on my bed.
“Damn your rooms are cool,” Jamal murmured looking around..
“Is the boys room not similar?”

“Go take your bath first,” Maya said into the pillow. “Wash those sweat and dirt with cold water to feel cool. And also you stink.”
“Shut up.”

I threw a pillow at her head causing her to burst into laughter.
I grabbed my clothes – grey joggers and a soft black tank top and hurried into the bathroom. I breathe in the second the water hits my skin. I scrubbed hard, making sure all the dirt washed right off.
I came out with my wet hair tied up, Maya was sitting cross–legged on the bed, brushing her hair aggressively.
“Okay,” she sighed. “Now it’s my turn to stop smelling like an expired goat.”
“You just love calling yourself various insulting names?” I asked.
“If I’m being honest girl, it’s not an insult.” She stood. “If I’m not out in fifteen minutes, check up on me. I’m too tired, I might doze off and accidentally drown myself.”
