Chapter 115
Sophia smoothed her dress as she walked through the corridor, her steps careful, her heart beating a little faster than usual. The inner hall was still buzzing with tension from the sealed auction, but she had no interest in watching the rest of it. Tonight, she had something far more important to do.
She stopped when she saw him.
Evans Coles.
He was standing near a group of men, his posture relaxed, his expression indifferent, as if nothing that had happened earlier could truly shake him. The people around him were all smiling, trying to please him, trying to stay on his good side.
Sophia took a breath and walked over.
“Mr. Coles,” she said with a polite smile.
Evans glanced at her, his gaze sweeping over her briefly, then he turned away as if he hadn’t heard her.
Sophia’s smile stiffened for a second, but she didn’t give up.
“I just wanted to say,” she continued, “your performance earlier was really impressive. Two hundred million without even blinking… not many people in this city can do that.”
Evans didn’t even look at her this time.
“I’m not interested in flattery,” he said flatly.
The men around him laughed lightly, and Sophia felt a flash of embarrassment.
But she clenched her fingers and forced herself to stay calm.
“I’m not here to flatter you,” she said. “I’m here because of someone.”
That finally caught his attention.
Evans turned his head and looked at her properly.
“Someone?” he asked lazily.
“Yes,” Sophia said. “Adrian.”
Evans’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“The one who was bidding against me?”
Sophia nodded. “That’s him.”
Evans studied her for a moment. “And what about him?”
Sophia hesitated for half a second, then said, “I’m surprised you don’t know who he really is ”
Evans raised an eyebrow “Oh?”
“He recently deleated twenty one cultivators in a duel,” Sophia said “It caused quite a stir. The Ventress

“The Ventress family?” he repeated “heard something about that

“Young lady,” he said, “you don’t seriously believe in those things, do you? Cultivators, duels… this isn’t some fantasy novel. We’re in the modern world. All that sounds like nothing but black magic and rumors.”
Sophia immediately nodded. “I agree with you. I don’t believe in that either.”
She lowered her voice a little, leaning closer.
“That’s exactly why I think it’s ridiculous that he’s getting so much attention. He doesn’t deserve any of it.”
Evans looked at her with interest now. “Go on.”
Sophia took a breath.
“Adrian was my sister’s ex–husband,” she said. “For three years, he was nothing but a useless burden. He couldn’t do anything. No career, no ability, no background. He lived off my sister like a parasite.”
She clenched her teeth slightly, as if remembering something unpleasant.
“And now, all of a sudden, he appears in a place like this, holding a supreme card, competing with you, competing with everyone. Don’t you find that strange?”
Evans’s eyes flickered.
“A supreme card?” he said slowly. “That kind of thing isn’t easy to get.”
“Exactly,” Sophia said quickly. “Do you really think someone like him could get it honestly?”
Evans didn’t answer immediately.
He was silent for a moment, then said, “Maybe he comes from a wealthy family and was just pretending to be poor.”
Sophia shook her head firmly.
“He doesn’t have a family,” she said. “He grew up in an orphanage. Everyone knows that. He has no background at all.”
She laughed coldly.
“He was useless for more than three years. And now he suddenly becomes someone who can challenge the Coles? Don’t you think that’s ridiculous?”
Evans looked thoughtful.
“So what do you think is going on?” he asked.
Sophia lowered her voice even more.
“I think he’s using someone else’s card,” she said. “A stolen card Or maybe he’s being backed by someone secretly. Either wa
it’s not his.”
Her eyes flashed with malice.
“He’s just pretending to be something he’s not ”
Evans tapped his fingers lightly against his art
“If that’s true,” he said, “then he’s playing a very dangerous game ”
“He deserves to be in jail,” Sophia said immediately
Evans looked at her and smiled faintly
“You’re quite passionate about this,” he said “You must really hate him”

Sophia didn’t deny it.
“But,” Evans continued, “hatred is not evidence. If I want to move against someone, I need somnething solid. Words alone
do.”
Sophia’s heart tightened.
She had expected this.
“That’s why I came to you,” she said. “If someone like you raises this issue, it won’t be ignored. Even the bank won’t dare
brush it aside.”
Evans looked at her calmly.
“A what exactly do you want me to do?”

Sophia nodded.
“He’s stepping into a world he doesn’t belong to.”
Evans smiled.
“That alone is reason enough,” he said.
He straightened and adjusted his cuffs.
“I’ll have someone look into his card,” he said calmly. “If there’s a problem, he won’t be able to stay in that seat for another minute.”
Sophia’s eyes lit up.
“Thank you, Mr. Coles.”
Evans waved his hand dismissively.
“Don’t thank me yet,” he said. “If he’s clean, then you’ve wasted my time.”
Sophia’s smile stiffened for a second, but she quickly said, “He won’t be.”
Evans gave her one last look, then turned and walked away with his people.
Sophia stood there, her hands slowly clenching into fists.
Adrian, she thought coldly. Let’s see how long you can keep pretending.
