Chapter 10
Chloe slept solidly for over ten hours, only waking slowly when the plane’s landing announcement sounded. The cabin was cold, but the wool blanket wrapped around her provided a comfortable
warmth.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we will be landing at Heathrow Airport shortly. Please fasten your seatbelts and secure all carry–on luggage.”
Chloe sat up, turned on her phone, and connected to the plane’s Wi–Fi.
A series of urgent dings sounded. She quickly muted her phone and apologized quietly to the person sitting next to her.
Looking closely, she saw several missed calls from unknown US numbers. On Facebook, a
notification indicated she had a new friend suggestion.
Not a single message was from Liam. Chloe let out a subtle, relieved sigh. Only when the weightless sensation of descent hit did she truly feel the reality of her new life.
“Ms. Thompson, you intend to sell your luxury apartment for twenty–five million?”
“Yes.”
“I need the money urgently. Sell it as soon as possible. I’m willing to accept a slightly lower price.”
Click. She hung up the phone and continued cleaning her new home in London.
The only thing connecting her to Liam now was the apartment he had transferred to her not long ago. Selling it for cash was the right move now.
In a week, she would commence her studies in the prestigious Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, embarking on a four–year Master’s programme specializing in Mental Health and Cardiothoracic Medicine.
The person who had added her today was a teacher from the school’s admissions office, a male of Chinese–American descent named Julian Grant.
After adding him, Chloe simply greeted him, and he sent her the school’s course schedule, accommodation details, and other necessary information. Regarding the treatment for her right hand, he also brought good news.

The medical school’s affiliated hospital would provide her with the most favorable internal rates and advanced treatment. He informed her that a previous case, more severe than hers, had recovered in just six months. Her condition was expected to heal in 2-4 months.
Everything was progressing steadily and orderly. Just as Chloe had expected, Liam did not contact. her again. His personality was inherently aloof. At first, he might have thought she was just throwing a tantrum or giving him the silent treatment. Even after learning the truth, there was simply no reason or need for them to contact each other anymore.
The weather in the UK was beautiful. Sunlight streamed through the clean windows into the room, illuminating even the finest dust particles on the table. Chloe unconsciously began to hum a tune.
“Chloe, we’ve discovered that the undergraduate thesis you submitted is currently credited to an Isabella Rossi from Manchester Medical School in the UK. Were you aware of this?”
Julian Grant called again. Hearing this, Chloe’s eyes darkened.
“…Yes, my ex–husband gave my thesis to her. But I have my original outlines, detailed notes, all the field research data from the thesis. I can provide evidence.”
and
Julian on the other end of the line chuckled.
“Perfect. You can send the relevant materials to my email. I will initiate an academic misconduct arbitration in the school’s name. It should take about ten business days for you to reclaim
your academic work.” Chloe agreed repeatedly.
After hanging up, she immediately opened her laptop to prepare the documents. Even though the pain in her right hand forced her to stop and rest every few minutes, Chloe’s heart was filled with joy.
Perhaps leaving Liam Walker was the… most correct decision she had made in these three years.
