Chapter 13
The determination regarding the thesis ownership was resolved quickly, with a hearing scheduled in three days. A panel comprising Isabella’s master’s supervisor and a master’s supervisor from the Imperial College Londonwould review the collaborative traces and make a final judgment.
On the day of the hearing, Chloe dressed in a sharp, deep blue suit, a white stand–collar blouse underneath, a tailored deep blue blazer, a matching A–line skirt, and black mid–heeled pumps.
Looking in the mirror, Chloe felt something was missing. She immediately went to a nearby Chanel
boutique and picked out a matching set of rings, earrings, and a brooch.
“You have excellent taste, miss!” The sales associate didn’t skimp on the praise.
Chloe responded with a smile. “Thank you.”
When Chloe arrived at the venue, Julian was already there, even earlier than her. After a while,
when all the professors had arrived, Isabella was still absent.
“Professors, the phone number left by Ms. Isabella Rossi remains unreachable. Prior to this, we
also sent physical invitations, but received no response. According to regulations, this hearing will
now commence formally.”
After a staff member explained the situation, they instructed others to present the prepared documents: the original thesis, Chloe’s submitted writing records, citation logs, etc. Since Isabella provided no materials, the hearing staff gathered her academic records, class assignments, and other papers from her student days for reference.
The result was announced quickly, with almost no suspense.
“By the decision of the review panel, the ownership of this thesis is awarded to Ms. Chloe
Thompson. Furthermore, with the approval of the Dean of Manchester Medical School, part of Ms.
Isabella Rossi’s research credits are revoked, and her Master’s diploma and degree cértificate are
rescinded.”
Applause thundered through the room.
Julian, standing beside her, was overjoyed and gave her a warm hug.
Chloe felt her hands trembling, her face flushed, and tears welling in her eyes.

Julian, seeing her expression, thought he might have overstepped and apologized profusely.
“Sorry, sorry, Chloe! I was just so happy for you!”
Chloe shook her head.
“I’m just… so happy.” Her voice trembled slightly.
“I never imagined it would go so smoothly… My family–they raised me by the old maxim: ‘Don’t make waves.‘ But here… I was finally carried by a current of justice, not silenced by it.”
“I thought… as long as I possessed…” Chloe paused here, as if stuck, but quickly regained her composure and continued.
“It doesn’t matter. None of the past matters anymore. What’s more important is now. I’m truly happy. Even though this was always rightfully mine, I never thought I could actually get justice!”
Julian’s eyes also sparkled!
“Yes! There is absolutely justice here! Chloe! You deserve to reclaim your own work!”
When Chloe returned home, she also received an official congratulatory email from her
undergraduate university. Logging into medical academic websites, she found the efficiency remarkably high–the authorship under the thesis title had already been changed from Isabella
Rossi to Chloe Thompson.
Chloe was so happy she felt like spinning around her home several times.
It seemed her new life truly began the moment she signed those divorce papers.
Before marriage, she lived for her parents and family. After marriage, she moved her household registration under Liam’s name and worked tirelessly for him, morning and night. In those three years… she had hardly ever cooked a single meal just for herself…
So, divorce and rebirth were truly synonymous.
