Chapter 4
Chloe spent the night in the hospital corridor, clinging to consciousness thanks to a painkiller
pump, before finally getting her surgery.
She felt numb, both physically and emotionally, the pain almost too much to bear.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Thompson. Due to the comminuted fracture in your right hand, combined with the
delay in surgery, some muscle tissue has necrotized. You likely won’t be able to lift heavy objects in
the future.”
The doctor offered a weak, apologetic smile.
“I know you studied medicine… I’m afraid… you probably won’t be able to hold a scalpel again.
“Perhaps you should inform Mr. Walker. The Walker family has significant influence in the medical field. Treatment overseas might offer another chance.”
Chloe shook her head, looking at her heavily bandaged right hand, which she couldn’t even bend at the moment.

Before her words fully landed, the door was kicked open with a BANG.
It was Liam.
His expression, initially tense and unpleasant, softened slightly with surprise upon seeing Chloe covered in bandages and hooked to an IV.
His lips parted, but again, no sound emerged.
He snatched a piece of paper and a pen from the bedside table.
[I didn’t realize your injuries were so severe last night. I will contact specialists abroad for your right hand.]
Chloe let out a derisive snort, finding it almost laughable.
“No, thank you. I’ll take care of my own hand.”
Liam’s brow furrowed slightly, seemingly dissatisfied with her response.
Chloe considered asking about the divorce but decided it was pointless.

Liam pulled a checkbook from his inner pocket, wrote down a figure, and placed it on the table.
[This is compensation. I hope you won’t blame Isabella.]
Just hearing that name made Chloe start trembling uncontrollably.
“Get out! I don’t want to see you, Liam Walker!”
“Your Isabella? I will press charges. I don’t need your money!”
She snatched the check from the table, tore it in two, and slammed the pieces against Liam’s chest.
Liam stared, seemingly stunned, as if he’d never seen Chloe lose her temper like this.
[I won’t let you hurt Isabella.]
That sentence pierced Chloe’s heart like a thorn, one she couldn’t seem to pull out.
Liam left, leaving behind a Chloe shaking from head to toe.
“Ten more days… just ten days, and we’re through.”
ANO…..
“Ms. Thompson, these flowers are from Mr. Walker.”
Liam had sent flowers for three days straight. Chloe didn’t even look at them, offering only a terse
acknowledgment.
Using a crutch, she packed her few belongings, ready to be discharged.
Pushing the door open, she found the entire hospital corridor transformed into a sea of flowers-
all red roses, identical to the ones Liam had been sending her.
Her heart skipped a beat. How did Liam know she was being discharged today?
But the next moment, the chatter of other patients in the hallway shattered her illusion.
“Mr. Walker, the heir, is so doting! To keep Dr. Rossi from feeling awkward, he sent flowers to every room in the hospital and completely redecorated this entire floor for her.”
“Must cost a fortune every day. The love affairs of the rich are something else.”
“Shh! Keep it down. Mr. Walker’s wife is also hospitalized here…”

Chloe steadied herself, her face pale as she leaned against the wall, letting out a self–mocking
laugh.
A chorus of “Wow!“‘s echoed from below. Instinctively, Chloe peered over the railing.
The first–floor lobby was also decked out in vibrant red roses. Liam and Isabella stood right in the
center.
“Isabella, will you stay with me forever?”
Liam was down on one knee, reciting the classic, clichéd line.
Isabella blushed, playing the shy part perfectly, and accepted the ring box he offered. Everyone around them erupted in applause and congratulations.
Liam kissed Isabella on the lips.
Chloe’s fingers unconsciously went to her own lips. How long had it been since he’d last touched
her?
Was it really only a thousand–plus days? It felt like an eternity. Around her, Liam seemed to have
not just selective mutism, but also a profound aversion to my touch.
In that moment, the world felt like one giant, absurd farce to Chloe.
Her selectively mute ex–husband was publicly declaring his love for his ex–girlfriend.
So, the real sin was simply not being loved.
