Chapter 18
Sebastian’s eyes lit up with hope..
“Mia, I knew it. You can’t let me go.”
Mia glanced at him and kept going.
“I haven’t forgotten how you forced me to sign that settlement, protecting other people while humiliating me with money over and over.”
Sebastian’s face went paler with every word.
“That’s not… that’s not how it was.”
“I was just trying to protect you.”
His voice was rough and barely steady.
“Protect me? Then why didn’t you choose me even once when Claire was hurting me?”
Sebastian went silent, opening his mouth several times but no sound coming out.
He’d never even realized it.
“Because deep down, you’re more obsessed with social class than anyone.
Having some fish market girl pay for your education is probably the most embarrassing memory you have, right?”
“I wasn’t good enough for you, so you never said you loved me.
I wasn’t good enough for you, so I was always the one you’d sacrifice first when things got complicated.”
Mia almost started laughing, but as the laughter came, so did the tears.
Fourteen years.
They’d known each other for fourteen freaking years.
But she felt like she was seeing the real Sebastian for the first time.
In high school, he’d swooped in like some hero to protect what little self–respect she had left.
Mia’s teenage years had been pure hell, so she’d been willing to give up her own future for just a taste of kindness, just to make his life a little
easier.
She’d felt sorry for him, so she’d tried to be understanding about everything.
And look how that turned out.
“You know what? You and Claire really were perfect for each other. Both completely selfish monsters–one’s an arrogant gold–digger, the other’s a heartless liar.”
Mia took a deep breath, fighting to keep her voice steady.
“Sebastian, I’ve never been ashamed of where I came from. Every dollar I’ve earned has been honest money.”
“I was doing just fine without you.”
She gave him this cruel smile.

Chapter 18
“So I don’t need your love at all.”
After a moment of silence, Sebastian looked up at her, his eyes full of despair and pain.
“Mia, won’t you even give me one chance?”
Mia answered him coldly: “No. We’re done.”
“Since you’re so desperate to cut ties with your past, just leave me there too.”
Seeing him still following her from a distance, she turned around and said to the broken man in front of her, “Stop bothering me, Sebastian. You just make me sick.”
As her words hit him, Sebastian swayed and grabbed the wall, slowly sinking down as he let out an agonized scream.
Mia felt nothing inside. She picked up her pace and walked away.
But tears kept sliding down her cheeks anyway.
The next morning, Mia sat in a taxi heading to the airport, closing her eyes to rest.
But just after she’d checked her luggage, the airport announcement suddenly crackled to life: “Ladies and gentlemen, due to special
any inconvenience.” circumstances, the airport is under emergency lockdown. We apologize for
The whole airport erupted in complaints.
Mia stood at security, looking around in confusion.
Then suddenly, she locked eyes with Sebastian’s haunted stare.
Her knuckles went white gripping her boarding pass.
Now she was pretty sure this “emergency” had something to do with him.
“Mia, it’s okay.”
He walked toward her, something dark in his eyes.
“Since you won’t give me a chance, I’ll just create one myself.”
Mia felt dread creeping up her spine.
“What are you gonna-”
Before she could finish, Sebastian suddenly took off his suit jacket, revealing a bomb strapped to his waist.
