Elder Gaius sighed, shaking his head. “It is not our place to choose the Alpha King. The last Alpha King died with his throne, and for years we believed there would never be another. But the Moon Goddess decided otherwise. She allowed this generation of powerful Alphas to be born, Gavin, Ace, and other Alphas across different packs. The throne once belonged to the Virel and Eros bloodline, yes, but there is no rule that says it must return to them. We are not limiting the throne to them alone,” Gaius added. “There are other Alphas who fit the requirements. Any of them can become the Alpha King. Only the Moon Goddess decides.”
“But our Alpha right here is doing everything that’ll kick him out as a possible future Alpha King,” Simon cut in, looking everywhere but my face.
“Like I said earlier, Simon, it is not our place to decide who will be the next Alpha King,” Elder Gaius said firmly. “The future will speak for itself. And enough about the Alpha King.”
His words settled the argument. Gaius was one of those influential elders you didn’t challenge. When he spoke, you listened.
“Back to the real issue,” he continued. “Which one of you approached Gavin Eros? And why did you never tell me about it? Bringing it up here without my knowledge and trying to disrespect the Alpha will not go unpunished.”
Philip stood up. “We didn’t approach him. He came to us himself. And I believe we can trust him.”
Murmurs followed, but Philip went on.
“The news is already out there, people are gossiping about it. Our Alpha has not marked his Luna. That’s how the rumor about him losing his powers started.” I clenched my jaw.
“If an Alpha refuses to mark his Luna for too long, he begins to lose his strength,” Philip said. “It’s rare, but we’ve seen it happen once. That Alpha lost everything. His pack became weak, they were attacked, and in the end, they all turned to dust. We cannot allow that to happen to us, not because this young man has refused to do his duty. He has also refused to give us an heir.”
They were cornering me and my hands balled into fists. Frank was daring me, pushing his luck right to the edge.

I walked out of the office and pulled my phone from my pockesaling a number I never thought I’d call again Gavin can be a din head comictimes.
After the call, Roman took me to a witch’s residence. The old wgan was known for selling the best marking prefers wolves use to hide their scents. If anyone could help creatures move unseen through a pack, it would be her.
After studying the reports and tracking patterns for days, it became clear that some of these creatures, if not all of them. were living inside my pack. They fed off my land, my protection my resources, and that must have made them think they could also hunt my people. That was where they crossed the line!
They smelled like shit. Someone had definitely sold them something strong enough to mask their scent while they moved freely around my territory without raising alarms.
Roman mentioned that the witch had recently abandoned her old home and relocated to a place no one would easily find her. If she had nothing to hide, why run?
The moment she laid eyes on me, the witch cried out and stumbled back in fear. She never thought we’d find her.
“Alpha,” she said shakily, bowing low in respect.
“I got a report that you’re the only one selling scent–masking powders,” I said. “I want a list of everyone you’ve sold them to in the last three months.”
“Alpha, I dare not sell such things to people who do not need them,” she replied, her head still bowed low, I couldn’t read her face. “I don’t believe it’s necessary to give you that list.”
stepped closer. “That only proves you’re the one helping the Rougarous hide their scents while living inside my pack and attacking my people.” She shook her head quickly, but her hands trembled. She was hiding something, I could smell it.
“I would never disrespect you in such a way, Alpha,” she replied in a thin voice.
“Then give me the list,” I commanded, my tone leaving no room for refusal.
She hesitated, then turned and hurried inside. Moments later, she returned with a large, worn book and handed it to Roman without meeting my eyes.
We returned to the pack hours later, and Damien followed right behind us into my office.
“Alpha, you need to train,” Damien said in a rush the moment we were inside my office.
I turned to him, one brow lifting. “Why would I need to train to take down Gavin? Unless you also believe, like the elders, that I’ve lost my strength and my special abilities and won’t be able to defeat my brother.”
“That’s very far from what I think,” Damien added quickly. “I’ve been looking into him for days now. The truth is, Gavin isn’t the same cousin you knew years ago. He has his own clan now and he’s a very strong fighter. He has trained squads of wolf soldiers across different packs all over the world. People fear him.”

He paused, choosing his next words carefully. “Whenever he’s been challenged to a fight, he comes out and feand. He has never lost a fight.
I leaned back slightly, my lips curling into a slow sinile. “Well, I guess that makes the two of us.
It was no secret that Gavin was a great fighter. After his father died in the war at the hands of vampires, he took it upon himself to become the strongest werewolf to ever exist. He said was his way of honoring his father and making sure no one he loved would ever die in war again. He trained like his life depended on it, because to him, it did.
He has fought almost every kind of supernatural being in existence, vampires, wolves, Rougarou, witches, and others that most packs only hear about in stories. He has seen them up close fought them, bled with them, and survived. That had to be how he knew so much about the Rougarou. If my guess was tight, he would know exactly how to flush them out of hiding.
But he wouldn’t help, not if it had anything to do with me. Gavin would rather die than lift a finger for my sake. He has hated me for over six years because of what I did to Charlotte, and the truth is, I hate myself even more. If I had listened to him that night in the kitchen, if I had followed his advice, I wouldn’t be standing in this mess right now.
We all heard that Gavin found his mate years ago, but she died from Moon Rot, an incurable sickness that slowly eats at a wolf’s life force until nothing is left. After that, he became closed off.
