I haven’t seen Ace since the day he went back to his pack. He had a lot going on there, and it made sense that he had to leave. I couldn’t help but miss him badly. He hasn’t called even once. He only sends a text every day to check up on me, asking how I’m doing.
I went back to the hospital today. I had been missing work lately, and there was so much waiting for me. I noticed Ace’s men were still around, always following me. They kept close eyes on Liam at school or wherever he went with his nanny. They kept watch on Les too, all the time she had been going to the hospital without me, they had kept watch. It made me uncomfortable, but at the same time, it felt safe and I worried less knowing that some good people were watching us. At least they kept their distance.
Les and Liam were more than excited when they saw the new house. I knew they would be. Dad called today too. He found out about the attack and damage at the old mansion, and he was furious. He wanted to come down to New York immediately. It took a lot before I could convince him that we were fine.
But he still insisted on seeing me. Since Ace signed the partnership deal with our company, there has been a lot going on already in the company, a lot of improvement. Ace was supposed to come to London with me in three weeks to see the company and finalize things properly, but now everything felt rushed. Dad only calmed down after I promised I would come see him in two weeks.
I had been downstairs, working on my laptop since I came back from the hospital. It was almost midnight when I finally got tired and decided to go up to my room to get some sleep. I peeked into Liam’s room. He was fast asleep. I leaned down and kissed his forehead, and he stirred a little.
“I wuv you, Mama,” he mumbled in his sleep, his small hands reaching up and holding my face. I smiled softly and gently moved his hands away, careful not to wake him. He turned over and went still again.
I took a warm shower and got ready for bed. Just as I was about to lie down, something outside caught my attention. I looked toward the woods, far from the house. I studied it for a minute.
There was a huge black wolf standing there, bigger than the regular Alpha wolves, his eyes glowing gold in the dark.
He didn’t feel like a threat. If anything, he made me feel calm and safe, like someone was watching over us. I had seen him a few times before and I already knew who it was.
I kept watching as the wolf shifted into a human. He was too far away for me to see clearly, but I was convinced it was Ace. He just stood there, not moving.
I closed the curtains and went to my closet. I picked out a shirt, big enough to fit his size, and a pair of sweatpants. When wolves shift back into their human form, they end up naked, unless they keep clothes close by. Looking at that muscular man from earlier, I was sure he didn’t have any clothes with him. Ace was shameless. He would walk around naked without a care. I went deep into the woods where I had seen him. He must have sensed me coming because he moved toward me before I could go any farther.
“If you’re going to make it a habit of watching me from the woods, no matter how far,” I murmured as I got closer to him, “then you should also learn to keep some clothes nearby.” My cheeks turned a deep shade of pink as I stared at his naked form.

“Does it bother you that I’m naked?” he said with a wink. “I’m all yours to look at, you can also eat me if you want.” I turned into a tomato, heat rushing to my face at his sneaky comment.
He was completely shameless. He didn’t even try to take the clothes from me. Instead, he pulled me into his
arms.
I gasped, trying not to focus on the feel of his bare body against mine. “What were you saying about clothes?” he murmured.
I pushed him back hard and threw the clothes at his chest. “Try to look decent.”
I struggled to keep my eyes on his face, even though they kept trying to wander. Damn. He was the sexiest man I had ever seen in my life. It wasn’t hard to understand why women threw themselves at him.
After he was done dressing, he suddenly lifted me into his arms, holding me bridal style. I gasped.
“Put me down,” I protested, lightly hitting his arms.
“Ouch. That hurt,” he said, faking a painful look on his face.
When we got to the house, the guards were struggling not to laugh. I wanted to bury my face in shame. That was when I noticed Stephen, who seems to be their boss, had followed me into the woods. Ace had a satisfied, triumphant look on his face, like he had planned it all along.
He carried me straight into the penthouse. I thought he would take me to my room, but he didn’t. Instead, he walked into the room next to mine, the one I had always wondered what was in it. I had planned to snoop around later when I got less busy.
He held me with one hand while the other searched for the switch. I gasped when the lights came on.
It was a fully furnished master bedroom, all in white. Tall glass walls, white curtains, white sheets spread neatly across a huge bed that sat in the middle of the room like it owned the space. Soft lights glowed from the sides, giving the room a warm, calm feel. Everything looked clean and expensive, the kind of room that felt too perfect to touch.
He walked to the bed and gently put me down. “Please tell me this is not your room,” I asked.
“This is not my room,” he repeated with a smirk.
I hit him again, and he groaned dramatically, falling to the floor. My heart jumped and I rushed to him, bending down to check if I had hurt him. That was when he grabbed me, pulling me down with him and straight into his arms.
“If you keep hitting me like this,” he said, amused, “I might end up in the hospital with fresh bruises.” He was only playing with me. He wasn’t just any ordinary Alpha, my soft punches did absolutely nothing to him at all.
I opened my mouth, ready to playfully snap at him, but something in his eyes stopped me. He had this sad look in his eyes that he was struggling to hide. It was pain, regret and passion all at once. And something deeper that made my heart ache.
He looked tired, dark circles sat under his eyes. He hadn’t shaved, and his stubble had grown out a little,

giving him that rough, irresistible, hot neighbor look. He looked worn out, like he hadn’t rested in days. And somehow, that only made me want him more. I wanted to get lost in him, forget everything else.
What was he so sad about? “You look sad,” I murmured, lifting my right hand and cupping his cheek. He leaned into my touch immediately, pressing my hand impossibly closer to his cheek.
His eyes grew shiny, and his voice dropped when he spoke. “I’m so sorry, Charlotte.”
