Chapter 89
ACE’S POV

I checked on Charlotte and she was still sleeping peacefully. It was already getting dark when I mind linked Damien, I needed to go somewhere today, if I waited until tomorrow, I might lose my nerves. Normally, I would’ve asked Roman to come with me but right now, I couldn’t even stand the thought of looking at him.
Damien arrived a few minutes later and waited downstairs. I pulled on a pair of jeans and a shirt and went to meet him. The moment he saw me, he stopped. “You look like shit,” he said bluntly. “What happened after I left? You look worse than last night.”
I didn’t answer, I just got into the passenger seat. The drive was long and mostly quiet. The silence in the car should have been peaceful, but my mind was anything but. Thoughts kept clashing inside my head. Damien glanced at me a few times but didn’t ask again. After almost an hour and a half, he pulled up in front of an old house, a place I hated visiting.
We stepped out and walked behind the house, where a narrow, lonely path stretched into the trees. We walked for miles without speaking until we finally reached it. A worn–out travel van sat out in the open, the kind people use for long road trips. It looked abandoned at first glance, but it wasn’t.
“I can’t believe we’re back here,” Damien muttered, scrunching his face in disgust at the weird smell inside the place.
“I need her help one more time.”
“Why would you need the witch’s help?” he asked, glancing at my face. “Last time you got so angry at her you almost drove her out of the pack. You even banned her from seeing anyone.”
She was the only one who could explain what was happening to me. She was the one who told me about the curse and why it was happening. At first I thought she was lying, but when the signs kept showing, I had no choice but to listen. I had sent her out of the pack before for using her craft for illegal work. She was old and weak, so I let her stay, but I forbade her from seeing anyone again. Now she was the only one who could answer my questions.
She was still muttering some prayers when we walked in. When she lifted her head and saw us, a small smile touched her lips.
“The moon goddess is kind enough to let me behold the Alpha’s face again.” I walked closer and she held my hand in hers. “What troubles you this time?”
I took off my shirt so she could see my body. “My marks were healing on their own, but last night I was drugged. The marks came back and now the pain is worse.”
“The marks didn’t return because you were drugged.” She paused before continuing. “I told you to find your mate, the woman you hurt and you did.”
I frowned slightly. How did she know that?
“Yes, I found her.”
“But you haven’t done what you are supposed to do,” she said. “You haven’t apologized to her, you’re not making amends. That is why the marks are coming back. It will only get worse if you keep going this way.” Her eyes moved to my moon mark, which had been burning red earlier. “Hmm… it’s back to its normal colour now.”
I walked to the small mirror hanging on the wall and stared at my reflection. The full moon on my neck had returned to its normal colour. I released a slow breath, unsure whether to feel relieved or afraid.
“That was only the beginning of what is to come if you don’t make amends,” she said behind me. “You hurt that woman

more than anyone else did.”

“I know what I did was wrong and I will regret it for the rest of my life,” I said quietly. “But why is this happening to me? I’m not the only Alpha or werewolf who rejected a mate. Why was I the one cursed because of it?”
“You cannot question the moon goddess. You are different from the other Alphas, you were given a special mate because you are special. But you thought you knew better than the moon goddess when you made your choice. You are the Alpha of Alphas, Ace, but at this rate you may die before the prophecy meant for you is awakened.”
“What prophecy?” I queried, sounding surprised.
“When the time comes, everything will be revealed,” she said. “But first, you must stay alive.”
I sat on a small chair. “It’s not that I don’t want to make amends for my mistakes. I just don’t know how to do it without her hating me. She doesn’t remember me or the things I did to her and…”
“You are afraid she will reject you again,” the witch cut in. “And you are probably right. There is no certainty that she will forgive you or take you back after everything. Every wrong choice carries its consequences. You cannot keep running from what is coming.”
She paused for a moment, studying my face like she was searching for the truth I was hiding even from myself. “She will remember one day, and I believe it will be sooner than we all think. You are only delaying the truth by hiding inside lies. Redemption does not begin with excuses or fear, it begins with honesty and acceptance of what you have done. You are still living inside deception, Ace. An Alpha must stand in truth, even when the truth is painful and heavy to carry.”
I stayed quiet, swallowing the tight feeling in my chest. “The mate bond between you two is not completely dead, do not be the one to finish what is already broken.” She turned and walked away slowly, leaving me alone to battle with my own thoughts.
Back in the car, Damien was watching me through the rearview mirror. “Spill it before your head gets bigger.”
“I think she’s right, Ace. The more you waste time, the worse it will become. I have seen you at your worst and I don’t want to see what the real worst will be like. Besides, Gavin is already there, pushing to be with her. He may be holding himself back from telling her the truth now, but there is no guarantee he will keep quiet forever.”
“She will take my son and leave,” I said quietly. “I don’t think I can survive it if she disappears from my life. Damn it, I didn’t even realise I loved her this much. I can’t even function properly without her.”
“You are only delaying the inevitable,” Damien replied. “It would be easier now before she remembers it herself. What you did to her was terrible.”
“I want to make new good memories with her,” I muttered. “Memories she can remember me by.”
“What about us?” he asked after a moment. “What about me and Kathryn?”
“Who’s us?” I asked, genuinely confused.
“Are you serious? Kathryn is her best friend, and she has been lying to Charlotte because you told her to keep the truth hidden. When Charlotte remembers everything, she is going to hate Kathryn. She is going to hate all of us because of your fear and selfishness.”
We didn’t go to my penthouse, instead, we drove straight to the pack house. One of the warriors came into my office after we arrived. “Alpha, we found the bottle of Ashfang poison inside one of the houses in High Circle estates.”
“The High Circle?” I asked. It was the district where only the pack elders, wealthy families, and high–ranking wolves lived, a place guarded almost more than the rest of the pack.
