ACE’S POV

“You better start talking fast, Roman,” I hissed, my patience hanging by a thin thread.
“I’m really sorry to say this,” he began, his voice almost reluctant. “But it was Kathryn.”
My brows pulled together. “Which Kathryn?” I asked, already feeling something hot rise inside me. It could not be the same one I was thinking about.
“The one that works in your office,” Roman continued. “Your secretary, Kathryn Whitmore. She…”
He never finished his sentence, Damien’s fist collided with his jaw with a brutal crack that echoed through my office. The force sent Roman stumbling backward, his head snapping to the side as he barely managed to keep his balance. A thin line of blood appeared at the corner of his mouth.
“Say her name one more time,” Damien growled, his voice rising in anger, “and I will throw you into the rougarous cage myself so that they can feast on you, they’ve gone without food for days.”
Damien was breathing hard, his face was flushed with rage, his eyes darker than I had ever seen them. His hands were clenched into fists at his sides and his knuckles white from the pressure. What the fuck was that? He looked more upset than I was at the mention of Kathryn.
Even Moon stopped struggling against the warriors holding her father. “Say her name one more fucking time,” Damien barked again.
Roman wiped the blood from his lips, staring at Damien in shock. “Look, I’m not saying she is or she isn’t the one who tried to poison our Alpha. I’m saying I saw her wearing that same dress at the pack before we left.”
Damien’s jaw flexed so hard. His hands were clenched at his sides. “That’s a fucking lie. Kathryn was not at the festival. She’s not even allowed to be at the festival. So how exactly did you see her at the pack, and then she somehow sneaks herself into the festival, walks into the kitchen, and poisons the Alpha’s cup? What is her aim?” He took a step closer to Roman, his eyes blazing. “You expect us to believe she planned all that alone? For what? For fun?”
“Oh, so now she doesn’t have any aim,” Moon shot back. “But when it’s my father, he’s automatically the villain, no questions asked.”
Whoever was running this had it all planned out before the festival, they knew they could be caught so they planned to take someone down and Kathryn was the perfect one to take the fall for it. And for my father in–law, I know for a fact that he has a hand in this, Moon as well but I can’t do what I want with Moon without the elders getting on my neck.
I turned to my father. “This still does not explain how the Ashfang poison got to his house, and until that is answered, he stays in prison.”
“Ace, you’ll do no such thing!” my father’s voice thundered across the office. He hates being challenged, especially in front of others. To him, this wasn’t about justice anymore, it was about control.
I didn’t even look at him, instead, I motioned to my men They grabbed Moon’s father and started dragging him out. Moon screamed at the top of her lungs, fighting to follow them, calling her father’s name. My father walked out behind her after throwing me a look that promised this conversation wasn’t over.
The moment it was just the three of us, Damien stepped forward to punch Roman again,
“Enough, Damien,” I said firmly. He stopped mid–step, but his hands were twitching.

“I was only trying to help,” Roman said, frustration creeping into his voice.

“By lying to everyone?” Damien snapped. “Now people are going to think she’s involved in whatever sick shit is going on. Do you even understand what that does to her name?”
“Ace, I messed up the other day at your house, saying those words to Charlotte. I can’t explain what came over me. I apologize about that,” Roman said, sounding remorseful. “But about this Kathryn case, I’m not lying. I did see her wearing that same dress. I swear I did. But…”
“Enough,” I cut in, not raising my voice. “She’ll be here soon and she’ll speak for herself. And for your sake, Roman, you better be right about what you saw.”
He swallowed and looked away. A soft knock came on the door some minutes later before it opened. Kathryn walked in, there was a small smile on her face, the usual polite one she gives when she steps into my office, but it faded the moment she noticed how serious the room felt.
Her eyes moved between the three of us.
She bowed slightly. “Do you need me to do anything for you, Alpha?”
I didn’t answer her, I just picked up the remote and played the video on the screen.
She turned to watch it. At first, she looked confused then her brows slowly pulled together as the woman in the pink dress appeared. She leaned in a little, watching closely, then suddenly, like something ticked her memory, her eyes widened and she gasped softly, her hand lifting halfway as if she just remembered something important.
This dress… I’ve seen it somewhere,” she said slowly, pressing her fingers against her temple like she was forcing her brain to work faster. “Yes. A few days ago, I came into the office after my lunch break and found a big box sitting on my table. When I opened it, that dress was inside. There was also a pair of heels with it. But it had no card or name on it so I thought maybe it was delivered to the wrong office, I didn’t think too much about it. I just closed the box and kept it aside. The next day I came back and the box was gone. I asked around, but nobody knew who brought it in or who took it out. I checked with security, nothing was captured on the surveillance cameras.”
“Are you telling me the truth?”
She looked straight at me. “You know I don’t lie to you.” She hasn’t, not once since she started working with me.
Then why didn’t you tell me about it?” I asked.
“You haven’t really been steady at the office for over a week,” she replied softly. “And the few times you came around, you were always too busy. I didn’t think it was important.”
I glanced at Damien, who had been staring at Kathryn since the moment she walked in. The anger that was written all over his face earlier had completely disappeared. In its place was warmth, the kind a man wears without realizing it when he’s looking at someone he loves.
Charlotte was right. There’s no other woman who would want to mark me except Moon. I may not have seen her face clearly because of the drugs in my system that night, but I know she had to be the only one crazy enough to do that. Not only did she try to mark me, she tried to sleep with me while I was unconscious. That part alone makes my stomach turn Only someone mentally sick would think that was acceptable.
And yet, a part of me still hopes I’m wrong. I may not have truly loved Moon, but I dated her for years. I refuse to believe that she would go that far, that she could be that cruel.

watching a few of his new young warriors spar in the open field. The wind carried the scent of grass mixed with sweat and dust from the training area. He took another drag from the cigarette, exhaling the smoke through his nose as one of his men walked quickly toward him.
The man stopped a few steps away. “Alpha, someone is waiting to see you.”
Kael’s lips stretched into a knowing smirk, he was expecting the message. He crushed the cigarette against the wall and dropped it to the ground before turning slightly. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t Virel’s people,” he said with a low cackle.
“He would have my neck if he knew I was here,” the man replied quietly.
“Then
shouldn’t have come,” Kael said. “As much as I don’t like Virel, I trust betrayers even less.”
“Do you want Ace’s downfall or not? Because when we spoke earlier, you sounded like someone who was ready for it.”
‘I need Ace dead,” Kael said, lighting another cigarette and taking a long drag, the glow at the tip brightening before fading. ‘But I need it done when he doesn’t see it coming. Tell me what you’ve got.”
‘There are a few ways we can do it,” he replied. “And I promise you, all of them will work. The famous doctor has a son with Ace.”
‘Dr. Charlotte Graves?” Kael asked, pausing as he exhaled smoke slowly. “Where did you get that information?”
‘I have my ways.”
Kael shook his head slightly. “She isn’t someone you can hurt through her child and walk away untouched,” he said. “That woman carries protection you cannot easily see.”
‘Not if she doesn’t know it’s coming from us,” the man said. “We’re not the only ones planning something. Moon already has her eyes on that boy, she has her own plans set. We just have to move faster than her and make sure she’s the one who takes he fall.”
‘Letting Virel’s wife take the fall for something she planned but hasn’t even executed yet?” Kael burst into a short, harsh augh. “This is probably the most twisted thing I’ve heard in a long time.”
